The boost gauge going (intentionally) well into the red is one my biggest thrills!
When I had my 9000 mapped, the guy doing came back from the first test drive after the map and said “we’ll have to knock it back a bit; your boost gauge is going into your fuel gauge” 😈
lol nice!
you should have left it like that wouldve been sick
@@kylesdogyt4824 wouldn’t have made much difference either; back in those days I rarely filled the tank anyway!
I love those small boost gauges on saabs and volvos haha
me too!
It´s not really a vacuum/boost gauge meter on newer Saabs after the 9000 and the 900 ;) But still nice to look at ;)
Facts
Always wanted a Saab growing up but never materialized
Great vid 👍 great results. Maptun does a good job. Been looking at their stage 6 Biopower 370bhp for my 2004 B207R Aero, if it would been a XWD I wouldn't have hesitated. That boost gauge build up is very nice for this engine, do it many times just to smile 🙂
nice! that would be a cool build to see
Allways look forward to Saturday morning, a coffee and a catch up on your videos, nice.
Just to add, just bought my fifth saab 2.0T 2008 manual aero convertible, looking forward to tweaking it.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy 😁😁
When ready, hope to do Maptun S2 on the b204. Funny & informative as always, 270hp's very cool.😎
Right on! thanks
Always nice to do upgrades that really do make our little obsession better!
Absolutely!!
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII LLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! As the owner of 2 great Saab 9-3 such as yourself (Aero v6 and 2.0t spiced up to 2.0T), I am very impressed with your work you put into both of them. I am also in the process of putting major work into mines. Keep it coming!!
thank you! appreciate it
Nice to see specifics about Maptune St3, which has me wanting to place that order for my combi!
Hard to believe it's only 120 cubic inches. After driving other brand 4cylinders, it's really amazing how good these are.
It really is!
I want a 9-3 aero as my fun backup/project car. I've always been in love with Saabs
They’re solid cars for sure😁👊🏼
Damn, that’s my dream Saab. Greetings from Sweden!
:) thanks!
I put a BSR tune on my 2003 Vector more than 10 years ago and got very similar results. With the 6 speed a lot of fun. Just gave the car to my daughter and know she enjoys it.
nice
How much was that?
Greetings from Sweden, älskar chippade saabar!
:))
love the info man i love my 9-3! and i know people have no clue what these daily drivers are working with!
🙌🏼😁
Nice!!!! This is the setup that I want for my 08 93 combi
Thanks!
hello autospy, i love it that you work so well with saab. as an owner of the classic saab 900 turbo (trionic conversion is under work) i know about the flaws of the special gearbox and that it cant handle "sporty" driving well for a longer period of time. so i wanna know if there is a way to make an existing gearbox stronger and what does a gearbox need to resist alot torque at all. also why dont we have a synchronized and straight-toothed transmission but mostly synchronized and helical gears?
i'd search some forums or facebook groups for info on that. i don't have a ton of knowledge on classic 900's unfortunately
I just got my 06 saab 9-3 wagon 2.0T not too long ago and mine seems to have a lot of get up and go like you showed. How do you know if it's already been turned or not?
Nice! BTW ur Turbo X sounds nice.
Thanks!
Hey what kind of spark plugs and ignition coils are you running? I have a lot of problems with my cars an misfires....
During the pandemia, I add to my 06 9-3 SS an extra intercooler. I used a factory intercooler from a junk yard, found space in front of the ac panel. I modified the steering oil cooler line shortening, taking to a welder and adding a cooler radiator. Then to interconnect both intercoolers in tandem I use some plumber 2-1/2" PVC 90 degrees and "T" fittings and residual pieces of intercooler hoses. Final results are a lower intake temperature and better acceleration.
You could have just gotten a do88 intercooler!
awesome
I'm looking at getting a performance exhaust for my 2005 9-3T, what do you recommend?
nice vid man
Thanks :')
I have a 2003 1.8t 93 I'm trying to save, the fuel injectors are toast, the gearbox mount dead!! And really i'm trying to save it, worst part is I'm in Lesotho where parts are a nightmare to find! Don't get me started on the hassle of shipping. This was my dads car, i loved it with every fibre in him and i want to surprise him get it back on the road. Which alternative fuel injectors do any of you recommend i get? Been around every blog. The car only has 97 miles on it. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna need to replace the gearbox too at some point.
Very good information, best regards of México
Glad it was helpful!
I'm new to your channel as well as to my 2003 Saab Covertible SE 2.0 Turbo and I'm looking forward to atleast getting around 270 hp out of her so I'll purchase the Map tune so I can get started on my new project car
Great, make sure you’ve got the proper supporting mods of going beyond stage 1!
Nick taliaferro from Genuine Saab does a great job tuning. I have a 2000 9-3 SE with B205R. Have DO88 intake, 3" Downpipe from Genuine Saab to Race Cat, then full 2 1/2" all stainless clean out the back, also from Genuine Saab. Nick also did a Stage 3 tune. Car absolutely rips, and still gets 30mpg. Previous owner said he got 305hp on dyno. Idk. I personally haven't had it on a dyno myself.
Plis take it to a dyno...I do have a 02 9-3 SE mt and would like to know if 300 hp are possible without internals mods...
@@juancarloslozano3374 All the research I have done, stock internals of the B205R will handle 350hp or so with no issues. When you get above that forged pistons, sleeves, and crank is what would be needed. I haven't got vehicle out of garage yet this year because it is just starting spring here in PA. Maybe someday I will get it to the dyno, but not anytime real soon. Sorry. If interested, talk to Nick taliaferro at Genuine Saab. He is really good, and you will be impressed.
nice
I've got a aero anniversary 93 with maptun stage 3 I'm thinking of getting stage 3+ did you have re gap your plugs or are they still set standard. Mine are still at standard gaps. The software upgrade is pretty cheap for me @ £85 thanks
they're just bcp7es-11's with .8mm gap
I recall historically (before SAAB went out of business), the SAAB shop in Wurzburg Germany had a notice that HIRSCH was the only product endorsed by the corporation/manufacturer.
So, without starting a troll war, which one delivers the better enhancement?
Once you have your car upgraded it seems a pain in the ass to have someone with experience to keep the machine in-line with the upgrade.
Besides that, if I am considering the 3 or 4 version of Maptune, how much will that little 2.0 Turbo 9-3 take before she blows up?
Tolerance before you force the rebuild?
Just uploaded this video which might help a bit: czcams.com/video/4YR4ONFVW3w/video.html
If I get the map tuner do I still need to send in my ECU to get reprogramed or does the maptuner do that? I'm new to this turbo tuning thing. Do I just need coils, plugs and the maptuner? I already have a down pipe to an open air intake.
no buying the maptuner means you don't need to touch the ecu. what you need will depend on what stage you decide to go with
Hey brother a question if you dont mind what i want to know is i have a 2006 saab 93 2.0t stock and if i get the loaner stage3 maptunerx do i have to change the intake and the exhaust? Or can i install it on a stock 93!
Yes you need to change all of the required parts for the stage
Great work. You should fit a 3inch downpipe with a sports cat, it will definitely add more power and will sound awesome.
It already has that haha, thanks though!
Hey bro I have a 2006 9-3 2.8t I was wondering what would you recommend be the first mod I do to it
Exhaust for sure. Check this video out: czcams.com/video/bjV78gxPoKw/video.html
What mpg do you get?
Does this cause more wear to engine/transmission components? I have a stock 2007 9-3
it can; it will not push anything past its limits. i have had no issues.
I have a 2004 Aero Convertible automatic. And found someone selling a BCB stage 3. And it seems to contain the same things you showed in your maptun box. If i were to buy it would that be "plug and play" or does it have to be reset in some way or another to work with my car specifically?. And help is appreciated.
Generally tune files are married to specific vin. So no, it won’t work unless BCB is different for some reason
Hey I was wondering if I am able to skip all the way to stage 3 tuning or do I have to go stage by stage straying from stage 1?
You can skip to whatever stage you want, as long as you meet the requirements for that stage. He said the requirements for the stage 3 tune in the video. Maptun’s website also lists their requirements for their tunes.
Is this car still able to pass emissions? Also what is the difference between the tunes available at Maptun and on Swedish Motorsports? The Maptun ones seem to offer more torque for the 2011 Saabs
Swedish Motorsports is the same as Maptun. Their tunes are identical; you might be confusing nm versus ft lbs for torque being readings different. i have no issues with emissions where i live!
So I was looking at handheld tuners and was looking at brew city boost tuner but now that I saved up they don't offer it anymore, is maptune easy for the states? Im in Ohio
yes, they have a lot of support in the states as mentioned in this video. Swedish Motorsports is their US dealer
Hello Brother! excellent video, I don't miss a single one hahaha I have a question: where can I get parts for saab with shipping to Mexico? ( I am from Mexico City)
I'm not sure about any international parts suppliers; i'd check to see if there's a saab mexico facebook group
I have a 2006 9-3 1.8t. Which is the 2.0L engine with a low pressure turbo. According to MapTune they can boost that to 210 hp with just the ECU tune alone. Somehow a 60 hp increase from the ECU alone seems too good to be true?
i would believe it!
2004 aero convertible 2.0T, any recommendations on down pipe, exhaust, and intake? Can’t seem to find any good options?
genuine saab or maptun for exhaust; do88 for the intake
It's indeed a perfect tune, not to crazy, but the car response is great.
My 9-3 1.8t BP has now 240hp/400nm with a custom tune, perfect for daily use as a family car.
Awesome
what mods have you done? 'cause i'm planning on modding mine (same car) and i'm looking for the best combination maptun/hardware.
Nice car man, and I was just wondering if you know how much boost you’re running with stage 3?
All of it.
^ (not 100% on exact PSI, to answer your question)
@@AutoAutopsy Alright thanks, no worries
Whats the upgrade cost from stage 2 to stage 3 if they do it at all I got my maptuner drop shipped from Swedish motor sports how does the process work pay for license and it should appear on the my maptuner app then sync the thing to my vin ?? Srry I know this is a year old video
Contact Swedish motorsports to if you’re in the US. It depends
maptunerx also allows you do enable LED lights on the ng93's
correct
Whaaattt?!? Ok definitely picking it up now
Nice video - I have owned 2 9-5s, the last of which was an Aero - an absolutely brilliant car, and even in standard spec could embarrass a lot of cars back in the day. I was recently thinking about getting another 9-5 Aero here in the UK, but given the weather here, a good one is hard to find, particularly the 04/05 shark nose front bumper variant. It is insane how much power and torque you can get from standard Saab engines - Swedish engineering at it's finest. In the UK, a lot of enthusiasts use Noobtune to remap their Saabs. Has a very good reputation.
yeah, the B207 honestly isn't good for a ton of power without building it, but a motor like the B204 is super strong!
@@AutoAutopsy which ones have the b204?
What's a list of mods done, I have an 04 93 linear, bought mine with magnaflow muffler, cai, and Bov, looking for ideas
i mentioned mods done in this video. i also have a video discussing common mods done to these cars: czcams.com/video/bjV78gxPoKw/video.html
BOVs are a bad idea on these cars btw
@@AutoAutopsy I bought the car a little over a year ago, the guy I bought it from did a motor and trannies rebuild about 40,000 miles ago now, he also did the exhaust, Bov, cai etc and I'm positive it's got a tune, just not sure what stage and by who..,...whatever he did, he did right because I have no lights on and it runs like a beast I've beat it at times and taught my wife to drive standard on it all with zero issues (knock on wood) but now I wanna get into a little more mods
I hooked everything up but when I go into programming there's only the backup file
Interesting how with all these performance mods, you've got the auto box... reliable? Handle the power well? I've had 14 SAABs so a bit of a fan you could say!
Yep it can handle this power level great!
@@AutoAutopsy good to know! I'm considering a 9-3 Aero convertible ss a fun cheapie runabout and not sure if I can be bothered to change gear after years of auto boxes lol
Hi! Will you install TransGo shift kit in this car?
I'm sorry for my English, I'm from Russia)
idk what that is lol
If I'm in the US, should I buy from Maptun directly of from Swedish Motorsports (pros/cons for either)? Also, did Brew City Boost stop making tunes for Saabs? I went to their website yesterday and could not find them.
yes brew city boost stopped tuning. You should buy from Swedish Motorsports to support a small, US based business who will offer you support stateside .
@@anthonyferra7907 Thank you for the answer. If I do get a tune (which I am still not sure, I am debating between leaving it stock or stage 1), I will get it from Swedish Motorsports. I just wanted Brew City Boost because I live pretty close to them.
You can check local forums for some guys who can make any custom chip as you like, for price 1/10 of maptun. Or check trionictuning and do it yourself🙃
Yep, definitely buy from SMS if you're in the US
I have a 2010 9-3T 140K miles, totally stock. I’m wondering if I’d see any benefits or improved performance if I got a stage 1 or 2 tune? I live in Calli but I’ll be driving through the Phoenix area mid April if your down for doing some tunes for your fellow Saab brethren. 😉 😉 🙂
yes, stage 1 would give you an extra 40hp or so. Please email me (AutoAutopsyYT@gmail.com) or DM me on instagram (faster way - Auto.Autopsy) so we can schedule something
Cool man! I just emailed you.
So basically the only thing you need is an exhaust, intake, map tuner, and bigger injectors?
Could You make a direct acceleration comparison on the road from a standing position - 2.0 stage 3 vs 2.8, as well as on the road? Might be very interesting. A lot of people wonder which one to choose, this could help. And from my point of view, traction is something i'm really interested in - How 2.0 can cope with such a big torque on Fwd. Thanks.
it'll spin my tires through first but it also has a torque limiter in first and second gears
@@AutoAutopsy but you can also remove it with the tuner can't you
Thats was me on the enterprise!! Ha ha jk. Your Arc is a 6 cylinder ?... My arc is a 4 .... That's good it's nice to see you got your Arc going...
nope, all arc's are 4 cylinders!
What year is ur saab u tuned
Hey there buddy I've been watching a few videos I just bought a Saab 9-3 I was wondering if you can tune me up??
And how much it understeers? With that torque propably at every corner?
Not really. It’s a chassis that handles great!
Would you be able to run regular 89 or it’s recommended to run 91 -93 gas
It's optimised to run on 93 octane fuel. You will lose some performance on 91 and even more on 89. If you consistently run lower octane fuel and have no intention of getting 93, you can ask Maptun for a tune optimised for lower octane ratings. It won't really give you any extra performance but it will be more consistent because the ECU won't try to increase performance beyond the capabilities of 91 octane.
Yeah, definitely run 91 or 93 if you're tuning or modifying the car. I would run 91 or 93 if it's stock too, tbh
Maptun 👍😃
😁
If I buy a MapTunerX from eBay and the stage 6 licence from Maptun, will it still allow me to tune stage-by-stage so 1, then 2, then 3 etc.?
no; each file/stage is paid for separately!
@@AutoAutopsy that sucks. It’d be cool if you could buy stage 6 and it came with all the stages. But fair enough, thanks 🙏🏼
I know this is an old video but , I got a ❓ question.... Is there a way to find out what kind of tune is loaded up in your car brand wise .....
You could try emailing tuning companies your vin to see if they have a record of it. Or the PO could probably tell you
How can you tell what ecu you have is there a code on it ?
2.0T = T8
2.8T = ME9
Will you go to a RR and see the result on the rollers?
A dyno? Nah, I don’t dyno my cars. Sorry.
I’m looking for saab which I can drive daily drive. Which one you recommend 93 or 95
And which year thanks
Both are good, main flaw on the 9-3 NG from 03 and up Is the ECU location on top engine's, the heat eventually will damage the ECU and you will need to get a good one and program it... that's my experience.
See this video for some perspective on it: czcams.com/video/Q2zgHFjqRv0/video.html
Well my Aero is Stage1 250 370nm and yours is definately quicker mainly because the P0101 code its been throwing for the last 2 weeks gives it all the performance of a Golf Cart but without the acceleration.
And before everybody chimes in with its the MAF sensor or an Air leak it isn't.
I just dropped it off at the SAAB specialist this morning to diagnose it.
While I was there he has a Nice lowish milage 2006 95 Aero I'm considering.
might be your filter giving you fits; i get that code about once a year because of my K&N filter
@@AutoAutopsy
Mines Stock so doubtful.
The other posibility is the TPS, the throttle body or an issue with the MAP sensor.
I dropped it off to the SAAB specialist Yesterday so he'll phone within the next day or so to tell me what the issue is.
Just hope its not the ECU "again"
@@AutoAutopsy
Lol finally found the problem.
Split in the bottom of the intercooler couldn't see it until it was removed.
Absolute nightmare as the intercoler looked perfect whilst bolted in the car.
Interested to know the difference in US tunes to other countries.
In the UK we get 97 to 99 RON fuel and I noticed somebody say they get 89 RON in the US.
In the US we mainly use AKI to measure fuel so, low grade is 87 AKI, mid is 89 AKI, and premium ranges from 91-93 AKI
Yep ^ our ratings are different here. your 97 or 99 RON is equivalent to US' 91 or 93!
Sweet she moves great
Thanks!
i have this engine in my vectra C , is that purely mapped ? nothing else ?
i believe i explained all of the modifications done in the video; l exhaust, intercooler, intake, etc.
So, did you notice an increase in terms of MPG? Assuming the same driving hábits...it's feasible cause the weight/hp ratio...
I don’t think horsepower equates to fuel economy lol
When you say "full exhaust" does that mean cat, mid pipe and back box? I have a backbox delete with a maptun stage 1 would that also work?
Following
Downpipe is the most important, but rest of the pipe is also good to change. He has everything from the turbo back
@@randomthings43 So it's a decat?
@@stevencorns9026 i don’t remember, he has a video where i he got it custom made, might have been with a sport cat.. But i can say for sure a sport cat works more than well for stage 3(+) im runnig the same mods + a bigger turbo with a sport cat and it made 300hp and 410nm crank
But i can say for sure that you will not be making those numbers reliably with a original downpipe and/or original cat
Is stage 3 harder on engine? Like will it have more negative impact on engine than stage 1. Just bought by Saab 9-3 at 100k and want it to last as long as possible, will service every 3k miles.
It’s making more power, so technically yes. Good tuners, such as Maptun, always ensure you car won’t be pushed too hard with the tune.
@@AutoAutopsy Ah okay I see, thanks for the reply. In the UK there is this guy noobtune who is apparently very good :)
You mentioned saabs read like 5mph fast and I noticed that on my 95, I was going 57 on gps (on flat road not uphill or downhill) and my saab read over 60, about 61-62
lol oof!
@@AutoAutopsy atleast it doesn't read 5mph slow cuz then id probably be getting speeding tickets lol, also I wonder if the speed being off has something to do with the higher speeds being closer together
Hi, I love these vids od yours, unfortunately im out in Capetown South Africa and with my low Zar ill probably pay through the roof For a map tune is there anything or do you know anyone in Capetown of Johannesburg that could assist me with some tuning on my car, have a 2. 0 t arc
You can always “borrow” the handheld tuner from Maptun and then send it back afterwards :) I would reach out to them to inquire about that
Wouldn't you prefer a stick shift to an auto box? More control & better acceleration?
As stated in the title and my video, it’s my daily driver. I have a manual TurboX when I’m really looking to row my own gears that I can use 👌🏼
@@AutoAutopsy oh yeah, my daily driver's a stick shift. Most people in UK prefer a stick shift as their daily driver.
Although a manual gives the impression of better acceleration it is rarely the case. An auto car with compairable specs will always accelerate faster then a stick it boils down to efficiency. An auto trans shifts faster and more efficient than your average driver ( most drivers if not all drivers ) I know it does not feel that way but that is mainly because the torque curve is different, and on top of shifting quicker on average auto cars tend to have a bit higher torque then their manual co part, just takes a little longer to reach their peak on the tourqe curve. Also more times then not and forsure with ng9-3's the auto can handle far more torque then a stick, the auto is good up to about 500nm stock, where as on the stick your clutch is pissed at anything over 350nm, and will not make it very long on a stock clutch. If you want anywhere near 500nm in a ng9-3 your going to need a nice stage 3 clutch, and even then your avreage driver dosent shift properly to begin with and will still burn up clutches like crazy at those numbers.
Can Maptun Stage 1 be reversed; can the car be returned to factory settings? Thanks for posting
Yes it can
I have a 2004 9-3 2.0t. What would the best tune be as far as a little more power without having to upgrade the intake and exhaust? Stage 1 or 2?
Stage 1: only need the tune and K&N air filter, brings it up to 210 which is the tune of the big T, b.k.a. Aero or Arc.
What would I need if I wanted to do a stage two? Would I have to have the intake and exhaust done?
No; stage 1 from maptun requires no mods. Stage 2 requires exhaust. visit maptun's website and explore around with their tuning stages and options.
Perfect thank you!
@@AutoAutopsy Hey just saw this video, If I live in the US can I get a maptune tune it myself here or is there any other company?
New to this
Why is it so expensive just curious? Looking to get a stage 1 tune for a 03 95 Aero.
Maptun is cheaper than most other reputable tuners, maybe all. The prices you saw in the screen recording is for all parts required to make the power possible, not just the file itself. The file is not very expensive.
Gotcha.
honest for a sec i thought that aswel lmfao 👍😆😆
Anyone ever recommend modding an og 95 auto for stage 2 or higher?
Running stage 3 now ~300, holding up fine. Going with a T5/T7 hybrid engine and going for 380-400 bhp/480nm on the stock auto trans
yep, they're good motors to mod as well!
I want to get a tune but have absolutely no sense of even where to look I think the closest place that does tuning is like 2 hours away😭
that's honestly not too far, relatively speaking
Can the maptun X let you know how much Horsepower you have when your finished tuning the SAAB?
No that's called a Dyno!
I haven’t messed with the data logger yet, but it might be able to. Your tune will already tell you roughly what you make though..
@@AutoAutopsy I'm just saying because i have a 3inch krona downpipe, with 3inch straight pipe with greddy muffler exhaust, cold air intake do88, upgrade actuator, and Forge bypass valve, and FMIC that's withstands 500hp, so I know maptun stage 1 tuning said it will be 250hp but I'm guessing it's more with the other upgrades I have on it already
How did you add the apps to your maptuner x?
Do a pull from a dig and get rowdy do these spin?
yeah, it'll spin my brand new tires through first gear, lol! (even with that dumb torque limiter)
What can I use on my 2005 93 2.0 T..cold air intake?
i'm not sure what you mean; do88 makes intakes for these cars
@@AutoAutopsy I bought the Neptune chip and went cold air intake and got 285 HP.the maptun is 2 grand?
im getting the most power from 70 MPH to 140 MPH
Hi I’m in the U.K. where can I buy one of these
Rewatch the intro please. Maptun..
Are you on the original clutch??
my car is an automatic, so no upgrades to the transmission

What?
@@AutoAutopsy I think he meant Dual exhaust lol
Is it okay for the stock turbo to go into the red zone or is it worth getting a beefier turbo?
i have the stock turbo on mine; depends entirely on what your tuner says
@@AutoAutopsy alright, cheers
I'd like to argue that the saab 9-3 with a td04 16t is the perfect daily driver. Never spins and pulls on 5.0s camaro ss, regular corvettes

I totally agree. I’ve owned 93s with both, while the V6 does have a nice kick it just doesn’t seem as refined overall as the 2.0T 207R. With the V6, the whole car feels heavier and not nearly as nimble, plus maintenance is more involved and the V6 runs annoyingly hot. I’ve never really seriously wanted for more than the stock 210 HP tune. Living with hot muggy summers in SW Ontario I think I would be more inclined towards investing in a DO88 intercooler before upping the tune. Bare in mind this is the opinion of a 51 year old guy who doesn’t drive like he stole it.
@@nolanpratt4291 I’m putting a DO88 intercooler into my 9-5 next week and can’t wait to see and feel the difference
@@nuttycommuter3718Would love to know if you feel the difference. I’ve just learned on really hot days to not cut left turns too tight from a standing stop in an intersection. Definitely left my heart in my throat a couple times early on! I’ve never really noticed a serious short coming on the highway on hot days with the turbo already spooled up. Still I have to think the intercooler upgrade would be the most noticeable hardware improvement. I don’t really launch my 93 like a teenager anyway. Stock it’s already fast enough to get impounded. If you think of it come back and drop a comment!
@@nolanpratt4291 I will indeed. All the reviews say it’s well worth having as the stock intercooler is so bad so even if you don’t do any other tuning, it’s still a worthy upgrade. I’ll let you know
Each has their advantages and disadvantages for sure! I still think i prefer the V6 a bit more, but love both
Do the maptune increase the horsepower?
Yes
That’s the entire point of it homie!
Swedish motorsports charges 2x the amount that maptune does lol I'm going with maptune
they're the same company lmao
