I have arthritis in my thumbs and the old style was painful to use more then one or two times. I got one of these new ones and I can just push it on my leg or bench so much easier now, I'm glad I finally ordered one after my old tip got too wide and split.

I should get mine today but how many times have you gone to suck the solder with the cheap ones and the plunger hasn't' been depressed or set and ready to go? I swear every time that happens. I noticed that you can tell with this one right away if the plunger is ready, that right there ALONE makes it worth it.

I have the Kotto and this one now. The Kotto has been great but the end came flying off one day. Somehow the threading got messed up so had to put a bit of JB weld on it to keep the thumb piece on.

The teardown and review was useful, and then you completely sealed the deal for me when you used it for the first time. Seeing how quickly you desoldered that transformer and how clean the holes came out, wow. Decision made. Mine arrives tomorrow, so excited to try it out over the cheapies. Thanks for the video, especially the closeup views.
By the way, can you please share a link to the blade tip you're using? I want to find something similar for my FX-888D. I love how thin it is; would make bridging in tight spots really easy. Closest I can find is the T18K knife tip, but it's still a 2mm wide wedge, not a thin blade like yours.

Note that all suckers get weaker over the years. You can easily strengthen each sucker by taking out the spring, and pulling it into length. Compare the length before and after. For example I stretched my spring to 150% and wow, much better sucking power now.

Solder turns liquid at 190C-ish so you will be fine. Just when you touch the iron directly for longer than a second you would melt it.

I just bought one - and it sucks! But not in the good way.. it has so ridiculously low suction power, it simply doesn't work :( I don't know why.. opened it and everything is looking normal.. at least compared to this video. I could not see what the other inside half is supposed to look like as it wasn't opened from the back in this video..
Also the sound when releasing the pump is strange.. it sounds a bit like my old standard-plastic pump, when it's clogged. But there's nothing inside, it's completely new and clean.
