I think BCCI is right in ruling that Indian Players are not allowed to play for foreign franchises because IPL earns from Indian Public and given the magnitude of our viewership why would we want to help other countries earn billons by our population. Also Indian best players earn Millions each Week, why will they go some other country to get few thousand dollars for one month. Now when Cricket comes to US even US Govt will create an environment to benefit from most from the game. Every country has its own self-Interest certainly when India needs of faster GDP growth why wont we attract more companies in our backyard.

Adding to the point of BCCI not letting players to participate in other cricket tournaments. I think you'd also have to consider condition of the players. India plays highest number of international matches in a calendar year. If you add in the IPL into the mix and other domestic tournaments as well. There's hardly time for them to participate. Also, you'd have to take in physical fatigue that a player would have when there's no break in their schedule and are more prone to injuries, which would be a huge blow during events like World cup.

Not allowing to play for other leagues is quite a simple but effective strategy. You can watch big English ballers clash with West Indies's batsmen in Australian cricket league, Carribbean cricket league, S. African cricket league and so on.. but to watch a clash of english ballers with Indian batsman; or Indian ballers with renowned Australian batting line up you gotta wait for IPL. And given the fact the Indian fans are providing this huge viewership to IPL, so even though Indian audience follow cricketers from all over the world, they still have have a soft spot, a longing a special interest for Indian players. So in this way you hold the audience with you, at the same time not letting your rivals grow.
It also helps that India has one the best, if not THE BEST cricketing talent pool in the world apart from already established big names. So you protect them too.
Plus too much of diamond in the wild will deteriorate the value.

Recently i had chance to visit Lord's cricket stadium in London. Where the 1983 World Cup final was played, and India won the final. The tourist guid at stadium mentioned that "As the India won the world cup in 1983, the power of cricket went from England to India." That line feel so powerful to me, like literally all the dynamic of cricket really changed after IPL.
As in tour of lord's stadium the guid asked each one of us where all people came from, and i mentioned i am from Pune. The one old man from group said to me " Why you are here? you should be watching Cricket world at Pune." It was really wholesome moment for me.

I love the fact that this documentary uses the correct term to describe the IPL, which is "glamor". There used to be first-class cricket which was popular, and then there was the format of ODIs, which gave higher popularity, but the actual explosion of popularity started with the "franchise" model and the intense action of twenty-20 matches made it more interesting to follow.
9:06 Yes, Lorena, it is kind of frustrating for the audience to watch for 5 straight days, and watch the match conclude in an inconclusive way. On the other hand, it is also a tactic for the teams sometimes, when their rate of run-scoring is not fast enough, just to hold on their wickets long enough to conclude the match in a draw.
11:25 That's a pretty accurate summary of the 1980s in terms of the Indian cricket stage. Pre-1980s, Indian team wasn't regarded as great. The team under the leadership of Kapil Dev turned the whole image around, making India as a "star" team, and raising the prestige of "Indian cricket" to a competitive level.
14:10 The IPL did add all the glamor, with all the cheerleaders and the opening ceremonies, brand integrations directly into the team franchises and direct match sponsor companies running their version of glamor. As they mentioned, this made IPL, not just into a league, but into a television spectacle event.
21:50 Yes, Jaby, that is in fact the BCCI flexing its muscles because it has become one of the most dominant forces in the International Cricket stage. It's nothing more than the BCCI attempting to grab onto power and prevent its power from being usurped. If countries like the UAE or Qatar start their own cricket leagues, then they can pour in more money to make sure that the eyeballs gravitate towards them, simply by auctioning in many more famous players to fill their rosters, which would pull the big brands away from the IPL, weakening the BCCI's revenue stream.
A suggestion: If you guys could get Lorena to sit for a movie reaction, get her to watch "Lagaan". It is an extremely well done movie, which gives a nice introduction to cricket, and has that tension associated with the sport itself, as key plot moments.

The packed cricketing schedule for Indian players throughout the year serves as part of a broader business strategy. While the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a major component of this strategy, Indian players are also heavily involved in various other cricketing events. Their schedules are carefully managed to ensure their fitness and availability for national team commitments.
To maintain the players' fitness levels and prioritize their contributions to the Indian team, specific restrictions are applied. These restrictions may include resting players for certain matches or series, rotating players to manage their workload, and providing ample rest periods between matches and tournaments.
In recognition of their contributions to both the Indian team and the IPL, players are generously compensated. They receive substantial financial rewards for representing the national team, as they are centrally contracted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The contracts are based on factors such as performance and their overall contribution to Indian cricket. In addition to their national team contracts, players also earn significant income through IPL contracts, sponsorships, endorsements, and various commercial opportunities.
Overall, the tightly packed cricketing schedule, along with the restrictions and compensation, are all part of a well-planned business strategy. The aim is to strike a balance between players' participation in international cricket, their involvement in the IPL, and their overall fitness and well-being. These measures ensure that Indian players remain competitive on the field and are rewarded both financially and professionally for their contributions. That is why they are not allowed to participate in other T20 leagues.

Cricket will only gain traction in countries like the US if their teams are formidable enough to compete in championships. Talent will not be produced organically in cultures like the US, where other sports are more popular. Enthusiasm for Cricket, can only happen in nations like the US if the IPL exports some of their best players there to play for them.

Jaby if you want to know the quality and consistency of a player, Most coaches recommend 5 days cricket, beacuse the level of focus it takes to strike, leave or let the ball hit your body is immense. It's not easy to stand on crease for 90 overs (generally 1 day) which is 540 odd balls and face them without giving your wicket away in any means. Some players do this for 2-3 days shows the level of concentration they achieved. While the opposition fielders trying to sledge batsman verbally so that he loses focus and get out.

IPL and BCCI itself provide so much money to the indian players and apart from that indian players earned million of dollars through their colabs and commercial that even if BCCI allowed them to play in all leagues then also apart from new young players no one will go to play because they r earning very good here and their rest focus will be play for National team INDIA. So this is the main reason.
