For others, the heavy implementation of technology in their cars simply falls into line with all of the other products they buy. It's hard to imagine the amount of change that will take place in the automotive world in the near future. Manufacturers are abandoning the internal combustion engine over the next decade or two. In another 30 years, the world will be an entirely different place when it comes to the vehicles we see out on our roads. Was a carb model with vacuum hoses under the hood going everywhere to enclosed relay boxes. Ran good but a bit under powered (85 hp). Handled very well. The downside was the body construction was a bit flimsy plus the ride could get rough on bumpy washboard roads. Was fun while it lasted.

Nonetheless, great commentary. We have none left here in Canada; they've been turned to dust a LONG time ago from the rear fenders, like every other 90s Honda. Even when I was a kid working @ a fast food restaurant, my store manager drove me home once in his CRX of about the same vintage (probably a 1991 or something like that) and it was a beater; 17" wheels, massive subwoofer, deafening exhaust. A real pos. Couldn't get over how big it was for such a small car though. Those days are over.

Weights change by year, but comparing the 1987 Si weighing 1900 to the 1991 Si weighing 2200, the newer car has a better power-to-weight ratio (91 hp for the '87 vs 108 hp for the '91).
Same outcome when comparing the top trims in Japan: 140 horsepower for the first gen vs 170 horsepower for the second gen.

This is nothing new and has been the case with many different cars for almost as long as cars have been around (just as people have enjoyed modifying cars for almost as long as they've been around). I have to admit that were I to buy a CRX Si, I'd be on the hunt for a stock example and would certainly expect to pay more for one. Part of the appeal for me would be the nostalgia involved in once again owning what was my first new car. That said, I've always had a thing for cars in stock form, even when I was young (at almost 60 now, I definitely no longer qualify), I'm okay with guys modifying their cars. I just don't tend to see those cars as an improvement over what was originally offered. Different strokes for different folks.
The same thing goes for the S2000 that I currently own. I didn't care about what anyone else liked or disliked - I intentionally sought out a stock example for no other reason than that is what I'm drawn to in particular. It seems crazy to me that my S2000 has doubled in value in the less than five years I've owned it. But this is in part down to the fact that other guys continue to want to modify them. Again, I don't have a problem with this. I personally bought the car to drive and enjoy, not as an investment. I've never thought of cars as investment. While there are plenty of people who collect cars with a focus on appreciation, there are still guys out there like me with a focus on stock examples because that's what we enjoy owning and driving. To characterize all buyers who like stock vehicles as all being the same makes no more sense than characterizing everyone who likes to modify their cars as all being the same.

I love the 2nd Gen CRX cars. I have 3 of them now and a 1991 Acura NSX. Go Honda.

I had a 1991 Honda CRX HF. It got over 60mpgs reliably. Best I ever got was 64.1 MPGs. But no power steering, no A/C, really weak going up hill, and lastly, you got no respect on the road. People would cut in front of you or cut you off all the time. Other than that, I loved my little CRX.

My dad used to own this car. Sold it to buy a minivan, but it’s beautiful. Wish he kept it.

It was my first new car purchase. $9995 and waiting list took about 3 months for the dealer to get it. Absolutely blast to drive and reliable. But after driving in Midwest snow..had to get rid of. Only worse car I drove in snow was 84 mustang GT. Crap box in snow!

Goodness gracious that CRX is IMMACULATE! It is almost impossible to find one in that condition. Are we dreaming here?

New, exotic, and modified cars are cool. But its so refreshing to see reviews of stock and well maintained old cars. I'm really hoping to see more, especially one for an s13 or s14

The last nail in the coffin of attainability is hammered in when Hagerty makes a video about the car.

they definitely have some motivations for getting prices to rise on cars that are still affordable.

My First car was an '82 Accord 2 door hatchback. It was 1988, the same year the second Gen CRX. I would be lying if I said I didn't want one.
    Bring them back!

8:45 a timing belt complete job should cost no more than 4-500 dollars and even that is a bit extreme. You can do it yourself in a half a day with a $75 Gates kit plus the cost of coolant.

I bought a Prelude new in ‘84. Buddy bought a first gen CRX. My take on Honda back then was they interpreted the best of European sports coupes while Toyota was more of an interpretation of an American car. Those old Honda’s sure were fun to drive.
