I live near Spokane. These people want to break off eastern WA and start a new state with Idaho. The “Liberty” state. It would be one of the poorest states in the country. Eastern WA voted about 80% Trump in 2020. The only reason WA is blue is because of the Seattle area. Little known fact..we also have the most right wing extremist groups in the PNW.

This has been my thesis for at least 4 decades. If you want to understand American politics, don't focus on stances on businesses, free-trade, support of the military--those are all secondary issues. If you want to understand American politics, merely focus on race. It will explain everything. Having just started into the workforce at the being of the Affirmation Action movement in 1970s, I reallllly dispise what's happening with DEI. It's like all of the hard work we did, that barely moved us forward, is being erased state by state. Why anyone would object to a small step up for millions of people whom have faced prejudices for centuries is beyond me. So they want to make America great again? How? On the backs of minorities and the poor? We can just as easily make America great by LIFTING UP OTHERS LESS FORTUNATE! It feels like Americans are losing their compassion.

A socialist or communist system theoretically can be democratic instead of authoritarian.
Democratic socialism is fine and it allows for capitalism. The people get a fair vote, keep freedom of speech, actually meaningfully help the needy and the rich can still be rich just not at the exorbitant levels we see at present. Theoretically communism is fine it's only ever let down by the greedy chiefs running the system. Communism will never work because of the base character of a lot of humans.
Just look at the Koreas…..after the war, Russia took the North and installed an autocrat….America took on the South, and installed democracy…..only someone with an in less than 60 could look at those two countries now, and not see how fortunate they are to live in a democracy. @Al-oe8ib I agree with you on North Korea, but South Korea up until recently was hardly democratic if you look at their history. They were under a military dictatorship for many years. Since military rule ended in 1979, they have largely been democratic and prosperous.
I know this is hard to comprehend but Socialism and Communism are not incompatible with Democracy. Even weirder both of those systems can be mixed with capitalism. Public Schools are communistic, libraries are communistic most infrastructure is communistic. Our educational system has not taught real history for so long that unless you live for a while in places like France, England, Germany, Denmark, Canada etc. you never learn that most of the industrialized world lives with various mixes of these systems. In the 50s and 60s the US went through the "Red Scare" and the powers that were just edited whole sections of this country's history out of existence. What MAGA is promoting is fascism with autocratic leadership. Seems insane but here we are.

So you really want to vote on shipping container standards, or at what level the Department of Agricultures Young Farmer's outreach should be funded at? We have a representative government because the general population cannot be depended on to keep up with all the legislations and vote in a way that is not swayed by passing political passions. And Congress cannot be depended on to oversee the implementation and details in the legislation that affects each of the many agencies.
