THIS is the kinda begginner content needed. so many people focus on straight apm and crazy fast build orders, but all the underlying mechanics and know how like this are so important

Haha yeah man, my winstreak ended this morning, however I won again and am now G3 xD Japanese are so strong in feudal. Just do the 1 TC macro Beasty showed and u will win a lot it seems. I struggle to know what to do when it goes castle@@patrickhenry1249
Tipps from a dented gold/plat player who uses most of those tipps:
1. If you build a tower on gold for example and you use G when the enemy units went past your tower and are now attacking your vills, it will make them go around those units into the tower which basically kills the villager twice as fast. So against melee threat build your tower BEHIND your vills. Definetly didn't lost a game like this today...
2. If you are playing china/green china and you play it save and build a village and a tower next to your 4 gold villagers, make sure to put the tower closer to the mining camp than the village. Otherwise the enemy samurai are going to burn down the tower unharmed while your zhuge nu are running across your base. I totally didn't made that mistake earlier this week...
3. Having all your units in a different control group is fine but don't just go through them, klick where you want your army to be and then go and do something in your base. Different units have different movespeed. If you don't anticipate your enemy moving his 15 horsemen to your base after he went imperial you will loose all your siege and look pretty dumb trying to punish his age up and probably definetly lose like I did.
5. Also don't forget to attack move all of your units before starting to micro your main unit. Nothing is more hilarious than you having the perfect comp, enganging in the right moment and then - while microing your archers - you watch as your spearmen stroll past the enemy horsemen which then kill all your archers...

24:00 U can also do from options controls there's an option called: Stop looking for shelter or smth like that.. and u can just press that button instead of pressing on TC and C and they will ALL return to work, its the same as pressing TC+ C. I use it on "Home" button its not smth ur gonna use every 10 seconds and its easier to remember

Amazing tips from Professor Beastyqt
There is also a global hotkey you can set for "return all villagers to work". for instance, I use ctrl+shift+R and it returns all vills to work and I don't have to click my TC for it.
Clicking seems faster though if you have a tc hotkey

What i struggle with in micro is trying to target spearmen with archer when the enemy has both spears and MAA. And tips on that ?
Great stuff! Basic question: What do I need to press to assign the hotkey "1,2" to a group of units. Maybe my settings are messed up... Thanks!
to assign a group of units to a hotkey, select the units then press ctrl+"whatever number you want", this assigns them to that hotkey. Afterwards whenever you press that hotkey it will reselect all the units assigned. If you quickly double click the hotkey, it will also move your camera to hover over the units in that hotkey.
@@theboat318 Thanks for the reply, but that's not I wanted to know. In Beastys casts you always see "1,2,3" hovering over units. My question was how to do that. So I knew how to do "1" or "2" or "3", but how do you do "1,2,3"?

@@BernhardSchlegel just assign them multiple times. So if you have one group of Archers Ctrl+1
Then if you want to also include that group of Archers with some spears you drag select all the units and Ctrl 2. So then you can press 1for your archers and the 2 of you want the whole gang

Really new player. There are a lot of great tips I can’t wait to use them. However I must speak out about one thing and know it’s a game, not reality, a ship dodging missile fire by constantly doing 180s on a dime?!?!?!

Generally speaking, not very important. Decision making is infinitely more important until you get to the top level, and even then decision making is more important than APM. I highly recommend the game!
Will this save me from mindless Japanese Samurai spams though? (I play China, so no feudal counters to it early).

i believe so. an option too is if you have extra mouse buttons you can set one of the thumb buttons for ease
Can this be done on console as well?
Something he didn't mention is how he makes his villagers build walls so cleanly. Whenever I do it, my villager starts on the second wall segment, finishes the entire wall and then walks all the way back to complete the first segment. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix that?
There are two end columns, select all the walls and you will see one segment has 14walls icon and another will have 2walls icon. Select and stop (S) to save the time and resources
This issue was fixed with the release of the expansion. You should not delete the end wall segments any more.@@nathanvienneau9422
@@nathanvienneau9422 That's been patched out of the game. The villagers now just build the main wall segments, and the end columns auto-build.

How to put the numbers above every unit?
The numbers are control groups. Select the army you want to put into a control group, then hold control and press a number. Cntrl + 1 for example puts a 1 over their head indicating they're in control group 1. Now if you hit 1, you can command them.

How to shift archer to not overkill?
A move and line formation if you are working with large numbers. If you only have 8 or 9 archers any formation will work.

Great finer points of aoe4 micro. One thing I think is still missing from this that a lot of people don't get is how to actually do an the stuff suggested here consistently. That requires 1) upping your apm, and 2) efficient apm allocation. For those, I actually found @turinRTS video about micro in TW:WH2 (czcams.com/video/KqbsHRiofzY/video.htmlsi=iGR-gXF4hrRpS0pL) to have a great technique breakdown that's applicable to basically all real time games. The basic concept is continuously rotating through your control groups, doing a few actions on each so you always keep situational awareness on all your units to keep apm allocation high and optimal.
