a small correction. None of the bio media have bacteria inside them.. you always add beneficial bacteria to kick start the nitrogen cycle. The price difference between the ceramic rings and brand media like seachem matrix , bio rio etc.. are due to the higher number of microscopic spores present in these expensive media that helps in colonizing more bacteria. Also these expensive media are a one time purchase.. you can use it for ages... whereas these cheap ceramic rings will get clogged soon and you need to replace them
Intresting. But in Bio rio, it says there are live bacteria in it as per their website description. Just quoting from their website “ADA Bio Rio is the basic of biological filtration. With live bacteria on Bio Rio, Biological filtration starts quickly after the initial setup.”
@@VenkyRajaram think Bio rio is not available anymore..instead bio rio g is available in their site.. " Bio Rio G is a sintered glass filter media suitable for biological filtration. Because it is porous, and its surface area is quite big, many filtration microorganisms settle and demonstrate high filtration performance. The pieces are irregular. And when a filtration tank is filled with them, gaps are easily to be formed. So they hardly cause clogging. Because it is unlikely to impact water conditions such as pH and hardness of water, a long term stable filtration can be achieved."

What about top filter bro.
Filtration will be okay for fish only tanks. But for planted Aquairum, It has some disadvantages brother, flow rate is slow so you might not get good water circulation. Top side it will cover the light as well and it occupies space so it does not look good. Better we can use small hang on canister in the back
