    So beautiful how Amos explained the Lord’s Prayer to his young daughter. Also how Andy gave of himself, and overcame the obstacle of lack of money in order to give his beautiful young niece what she really wanted for Christmas. There were many tender moments in this show which brought tears to my eyes. As a child myself in the 1950’s, I remember hearing the Christmas Carols on almost any radio station. Unlike today, TV and radio where not afraid of referring to the Lord and of reminding people to attend their place of worship.

    Amos and Andy is one of my favorites; radio and tv. The story lines were great, but the message here transcends race, and ascends to a higher level of both respect, and love, for true friendship and respect for the one who created ALL RACES. Amos and Andy, and of course the Kingfish, were the ones who opened the door for the Af Am, in the entertainment community They brought the idea of a socially universal message of sincerity. They also were the comedians whose classic humor, like Laurel and Hardy, still remains cherished to this day! Hey floor walker.....!

The NAACP may have overreacted regarding the image the show projected but they were fighting a lot of battles in 1955 with very little legal or political support. From my perspective as a white Texan, I always felt the show projected an image of wonderful people struggling to get by. Time and time again the incredible actors
      reminded me of members of my own family.

    ❤❤❤Exceptional ❤❤❤Excellent ❤How Amos explained to his daughter the meaning, of The Lord's Prayer, and how that is the real spirit of Christmas. And what was even better is she went to sleep smiling, after hearing it, even before she even knew about her doll gift. She was smiling at the real spirit of Christmas, because at that moment she was not aware that she got the doll she wanted, which most of us attributed smiles from a child at Christmas was from the toy they got, so she was smiling from the message.✌❤🙏

As much as we pretend we like this new Era of smartphones, selfies, woke attitudes, and broken homes, we all know we wished we could see one day like this on earth. Fathers, men, leading the way. Loving their families, being faithful to their wives, and putting the Lord first. This episode is Long gone from the dark world we live in today. Spencer Williams and the rest of the cast would roll over in their Graves if they saw the world we live in now. One day, God's Kingdom will come, and his will, will be done. I fondly remember the Amos n Andy TV series on our B&W TV set on a weekend night, every week, thru the 1951 to 1953 years of its airing. Watching as a small boy with my (divorced) mother in her / our / tiny upper East Side apartment in Manhattan NY. We loved this show and it was back then loved for the most part by ALL races and nationalities of people who watched it. Especially this particular one which I likely saw during that Christmas 1952 but had long ago forgot it. And, Yeah, seeing it again now, nearly 70 years later, wet my eyes also during the end scenes watching it ! And the flooding back of long ago nostalgia of the times and related memories.
    To think of how refined, well dressed and respectful the show portrayed the people of all types, back in those days and times. Real Classic television - and so sad it was removed from viewing for TV audiences for such totally unfounded profiling type reasons. Just look at the love, admiration and nostalgia the viewers comments below reflect for this show and its wonderful cast...a half century and more after the original series aired. Thankfully we can enjoy this fine TV series via You Tube presently - bypassing the long ago stupid TV censorship caused by what is documented to be initiated by the NAACP. How shortsighted their negative estimation of this fine television series was back then. Because of such the show was cancelled in 1953. Amos 'n' Andy was eventually removed (likely the airing of re-runs) from the air in 1966. With the exception of a 1983 documentary, the series was banned from television, home video, and eventually the internet from 1966 until 2004. It along with 1950's TV Shows such as Gunsmoke, The honeymooners, I remember Mama, and so many others, were a weekend routine for millions of families to tune faithfully to their TV sets back then.

    One of my favorite episodes. I remember as a child in the early 50s going to the Broadway Department Store and Bullocks Department Store in LA at Christmas time to see Santa Claus and take a picture with him. They had all of the toys set up. I also remember all kids.... Black, White, Hispanic and Asian standing in line and the parents waiting. During this time, people were nice and polite to each other in the store as it was crowded with shoppers. As a small child, I never thought of the racial problems because I never saw it in LA. Other places across the country had them but LA seemed exempt from them until the Watts Riot exploded in 1965 and I was well into my teens. This episode has so much meaning now as it did then. The Korean war was going full blast then and our world today is a powder keg. One thing Amos n Andy showed was that interaction between the races were friendly and respectable.

    • @EllyWoman777
      @EllyWoman777 Před 2 lety

      One thing lacking today is communication. Everyone that comes into this country now...holds on to their former countries language...and they expect Americans to learn their language.
      It wasn't like that back in the 50's through 70's. Didn't matter if you were Italian...Irish... German...or Japanese...everyone spoke English...even if it was broken English you could talk to everyone. Then certain other nationalities came here and refused to learn English. That's when big problems of communication came. " "When you go to Rome...do as the Roman's do" In other words...if you move to another country...learn the language that their Constitution was written in...or don't go there. Same with learning the customs of the country you move to. I feel like a foreigner in the country I was born in. Sad!💔
      I wish it was the 1950's again...I could turn on the T.V.and watch "Amos & Andy" and "I LoVe Lucy" and "The Honeymooners" and "Red Skelton Show" to name a few.

    This episode was sweet! I'm saving it to my "Christmas Movies and Shows" playlist. I may be showing my age here, but I remember when adults and children dressed that way - also Christmas carols and sacred music on the radio. I loved how Amos explained the Lord's Prayer to his daughter and kissed her good night. The whole episode made me feel cozy.

    Fast forward to 22:00, to see one of the best scenes in early television history, and by far the BEST of every Amos and Andy Episode. I always wonder what happened to the little girl, all I could find was: "Patti Marie Ellis was born on October 27, 1941 in Los Angeles, California, USA. She is an actress, known for Bright Road (1953) and The Amos 'n Andy Show (1951)."

      @SheridanJazz Před 4 lety +8

      Absolutely. When I was growing up, Amos 'n' Andy was taken off the air, with the excuse that it was "demeaning to black". The along come shows like "Good Times", "The Jeffersons" and "Sanford and Son." Give me a break.

    Kingfish might have been the heart of the show, but Amos was its soul - and really its major saving grace amid a lot of heavy-handed stereotyping. Its a shame he didn't get more to do during its run (its hard to stand out among so many other colorful characters).

    I would love for someone to do a comprehensive narrative on how Amos and Andy started from white folks in White face to starring black actors (pseudo having origins in the chitlin circuit and being picked up by whites for radio); various owners of the brand, and so forth. It is so confusing, but could be quite illuminating.
