    Davie ....your method of fly tying is like meditation the detail you put in tying those flies is mind-blowing, can't wait in the evenings after work to watch you create your artwork.

    Just love the attention to the taper on your flies as well as your consistency. Thank you as always Davie.

    Thanks. Love when you break it down for new Tyers. Even us old folks need to revisit basics and see how different tyers approach the steps.

    Very nice! I have just the place for it. I started tying with wire instead of thread, I think on Woolly Buggers. I needed just a bit of weight. Later on I saw you tying PTN's with wire and so I tried some. They are weighted just enough that they sink perfectly. Thanks for the idea Davie!

    I just got some dohiku nymph hooks in size 20. I really don't tie flies that small but one of my friends told me to use them.Thanks to you, I now know what to tie on!

    I met an old friend y/day - in fact my gaffer at my job before my retirement - he a keen & skilled angler, among everything else at that at fly fishing. I told him about Davie McPhail, the most sparkling star on my fly-tying heaven - both as a fly tier and a human. We need him these days.../Hakan Sweden

      Hi Aiden,
      It's great to hear that you enjoy the videos and that you family are all enjoying it with you as well...I know when I used to work in the shop it was very easy to spend a pound to two, they used to call me discount Davie when I was there as I was always trying to get the best price for the customers, Gary loved me🤣..
      All the very best Davie

    Yet another simple but beautiful pattern,.Love your technique for tying in the thorax cover , I think it gives the nymph a more realistic profile. I've been tying my that way since I first saw you do it that way. Superb 👍👍

    Hi Davie, I love the simplicity of these nymph patterns and am surprised at how popular they are with our NZ trout! You have just shown me a colour that I have never tied before in a pheasant tail, yet I have used olive coloured nymphs in all my fishing. You just keep on surprising me again and again. Cheers mate. Dave I have question not so much related to this video is there a trick to getting material pulled back from the eye do you pull in a certain direction and how do you keep your fingers from getting caught on the hook piont

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 2 lety

      Hi Richard,
      I have to be honest I would have to watch myself just to see what I am doing as I just get used to to tying and not getting jagged by the hook though I am sure I don't take my fingers back too far and up and away from the point of the hook..When I first started though I did mask the hook in the jaws until I got used to tying..

    My question is what kind of wire do you specify I like tying with wire but it always breaks when I place it in a bobbin

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 2 lety

      Hi Stan,
      I use an extra small wire that I bought many years ago from Veniards here in the UK but unfortunately they no longer stock it though the UTC extra smallI wire is the same thickness, I also like many of their colours as well..I like to use a Tiemco heavy duty ceramic bobbin holder when using the wire but you have to adjust the bobbin holder so that the wire runs smoothly from the spool because if it sticks it will break the wire very easily..

      @@DavieMcPhail thank you Dave I have been watching you tie for many years. I appreciate the way you share your knowledge. I especially like the way you mount wet fly wings. You have a technique all your own. Thanks for all you do for our sport. All the best Stan
