Fats was the best of all time, according to Elvis, and I think he was. How could you not be happy listening to that music as seeing his wonderful smile.
I this the 1st ever Ska record:) This man is so damn good boogie woogie r&r the man can do it all. All that great ska blue beat etc start here with this man
One of the roots. The other was Jamaican mento music. And the drum pattern in ska was different to the one in rhythm'n'blues. Prince Buster said of his rivals, "They didn't understand what was happening in my tunes. They thought it was all about the guitar and they didn't know about the drum."
On this day in 1959 {November 10th} Fats Domino performed "Be My Guest" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #22 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, four weeks later it would peak at #8 {for 1 week} and it spent fourteen weeks on the Top 100... And on Dec. 28th, 1959 it reached #2 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "The Clouds" by the Spacemen... The record's B-side, "I've Been Around", also made the Top 100, it reached #33 and stayed on the chart for nine weeks... Between 1949 and 1964 Mr. Domino had sixty records on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart; forty made the Top 10 with nine reaching #1, in addition he had ten records that peaked at #2...
So great to watch the kids of that time (of which I was one of 'em) actually dancing with each other. Now they call it shag dancing. We just called it dancing.
The great saxophone breaks in Fats' records is real rock and roll and missing from the Chuck Berry and the Fab Four records . Bill Haley , Pat Boone and Connie Francis also have several great real rock n roll records with the saxophone featured .

Whoa, glad I am old enough to have had Fats music to listen and dance too.even though women could not wear.pants in public. The full skirts n were fun with crinoline under those skirts
According to Wikipedia, Tommy Boyce wrote this song and waited for hours outside of Fats hotel room until he could hand him a demo. Fats promised to listen to it. The rest is history.

I'm a 47 year old CNA and one of my residents turned me on to this song!!!
Still sounds fresh in 2020......one of Elivis favourite artist, so good enough for me...
Quite possibly the root of all Reggae Dancehall and Ska tunes...

Look the guitarist on right... I love how he moves his head !
Fabulous!!!!
Rest in Peace Antoine Fats Domino, beautiful soul.
This is proof, only the good die young
This song came out in 1959. When they heard it in Jamaica, a big light bulb went on.
SKA?
What's so strange about it? Pirate radio stations in Jamaica captured mostly New Orleans r'n'b and it's pretty evident its influence on early ska.
And even other stuff from the west coast too, i.e. Clue J Shuffle which is T-Bone Shuffle
True this song is the precursor of Ska and Rock steady
@@synegra83 Yes but only by combining it with Jamaican mento influences. Rhythm'n'blues wasn't the only precursor of ska.

Written by Tommy Boyce before he joined with Bobby Hart of songwriting duo, Boyce & Hart. Boyce wanted Fats to sing it, and sing it he did.
got a lot of ska beats/tune but hmm everyone have a think of ska but this is one of first on
R&B with an offbeat is just R&B with an offbeat. It is not ska.
LOL it hurts my brain to try to watch this video and listen at the same time. Do you suppose this video is even the same song?
