- Chronology of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Video frames were constructed using the ggplot2 package in R, and the video was created using ffmpeg and audacity. This latest update includes the average age of the apostles and their combined tenure. (The filled arrows are the current age and tenure, the unfilled arrows are the historical highs.) I also slowed down the transitions.
Data supporting this video were obtained from wikipedia.org: "Chronology of the First Presidency (LDS Church)" and "Chronology of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (LDS Church)". Data were also obtained from "Changes in Seniority to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints", a masters thesis by Travis Q. Mecham, May 2009, Utah State University.
This video was so cool seeing some apostle become a President after years and also see some empty apostles spots gets replaced and see how they move up. I was about to spend 10 hours studying and seeing who were the apostles that took place up and down. Great video!!!

Thanks for putting this together. I jus realized that Heber J. Grant served as an apostle during WWI and as a prophet during the great depression and WWII. Much respect to him.

Update: President M. Russell Ballard died November 12th, 2023 and the new Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is President Jeffrey R. Holland and we are waiting for President Russell M Nelson to call and ordain the new apostle to fill the vacancy occupied by President Ballard.
You should do one of these for all of the other Mormon denominations

I have been making a Google sheet for this and was wondering if it already existed. By the way what I would suggest if I could change the format or anything it would be the color of the Prophets as they Enter as apostles then I can see how many of the current apostles became profits.

When Joseph Smith died, Brigham Young led the Church in his capacity as President of the Twelve, but after he led the pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley he felt inspired to reorganize the First Presidency so that he and his counselors could direct the Church from headquarters while the Apostles traveled.
After Brigham died, it was customary for his successors to wait two or three years before reorganizing the First Presidency up until Wilford Woodruff died. When that happened, the Lord told Lorenzo Snow to reorganize the First Presidency without delay. Since then, the time between a prophet's death and a new First Presidency reorganization has been measured in days or weeks instead of years.
There was a succession crisis after Joseph Smith died. Several people claimed that they were next in line, and formed their own churches. James Strang even claimed to have found plates of his own that he translated. The majority of Joseph Smiths church followed Brigham Young. In all there are about 70 branches of Mormonism.
