      @@TheWorldTeacher Namakar! Our scriptures absolutely do say that non-harm is the highest priciple/duty/law. I agree with you in general that we should be vegan if we adhere to sanatan dharma.
      What do you think about dairy? Vegans usually define dairy as non-vegan. However, our scriptures say that dairy is absolutely acceptable if the cow is treated with kindness and respect and non-violence. In America, nobody respects cows so I agree that in America we should not consume milk. But in other contexts, I think it is fine.
      Also, it is important to note that the scriptures do allow for eating the meat from animals offered as part of Vedic sacrifices. This is discussed in Manu-smriti, Shrimad Bhagavatam, and other scriptures. However, this course of action is recommended against by our sages and rishis, but it is technically allowed.
      I am only saying this because I do believe we need to have some nuance in how we understand our Sanatan scriptures. Sanatan Dharma does specify that we must be non-violent to the greatest extent possible, but it also give provisions for dairy, animal-sacrifices, war, etc.

      These questions some of them made me laugh .. as an inactive member of the church I still answer questions about the church with friends and explain to them however recently some of the questions have all come up about church history and how bad it is and to be fair I never really looked into church history as I am a kind of person where history is the oast we can't do anything about it and I ain't in power of a country so I don't need to know its not gonna affect me in anyway .
      However these missionarys looked shocked with some of the questions one about race and color of skin and another about women be suppressed
      When I have come across these questions my answers are always..
      Well at the time black ppl were tend to be slaves for the rich ppl and however the gospel is for them it would have made too much of an issue with who had rights and no rights so when this issue was sorted that's when priesthood and what ppl say was the curse gets removed also I remind them that we are all cursed in sin no matter what color until we repent and be baptised.
      Also women ain't suppressed at all and if it means there more smart focused and modest then thats not suppression thats actually a blessing

      I think a lot of these misconceptions date clear back to the early days of the restoration, when only a few thousand saints were around and many areas of the world simply had no members anywhere close. They just kind of heard about a "spooky cult" and without solid information to go on, things were basically made up and invented. Even here in the 2020s, we're seeing many of the same imaginations of critics crop up in the public consciousness and it does get hard sometimes to deflate that these things simply aren't real.
      Being honest about it all is usually enough to convince a fair-minded person. They might spawn more questions, you might answer honestly. Perhaps they'll understand it's not spooky, and probably not a cult (highly depends on definition of cult -- the ones that include it would also have things like Catholics and Protestants labeled as cults and that's not what critics want ;) )

    Fun video but there is a big error at 4:59 that needs to be fixed. The church in fact does has paid ministry. The top 90+ church leaders all make a healthy six-figure salary and with all their salaries added as well as other church positions it sums up to a much larger amount than the church donates to charity everywhere.

    • @CalledtoShare
      @CalledtoShare  Před 2 lety +5

      It is not a salary, it is a stipend. But yes, very few of the officers of the church receive this stipend. Those in the ministry who receive the stipend are so few, that it's more accurate to state that the ministry of the Church isn't paid.
      Should people know about the stipend? Yes. But are any who receive the stipend making more money than they did at the previous employment? Probably not. President Nelson was a heart surgeon probably making over $500,000 (or a lot more) and now gives 24/7 of his time to the Church for a stipend of $150,000-$200,000 a year maybe?
      The only reason a stipend is given is because they are ask to give all of their time to their calling as prophets, apostles, or seventy.
      Thanks for the comment!

      @@CalledtoShare in 2014 the stipend (living allowance) was moved to $120k per year. As reported by The Salt Lake Tribune with no response from Church representatives, 89 men make up the top-tier of the church that make this allowance. That sums up to nearly 11 million per year, which is shockingly only half of what the church donates per year (According to financial records the church donated $60m per year, more than 60% of that comes from private donations such as LDS Philanthropy Organizations and not from the Church’s funds whatsoever). Yes, it is a stipend but why does it need to be so much? Praising these men of dropping their larger paid jobs is nothing more than a Scotsman Fallacy that holds no value to this topic. I see members here in Asia that go hungry for days because they pay their 10%, please tell me why the church decides to divide 11 million among its top 89 men?
      Let’s also address the New Testament where Christ said his disciples should sell everything they have and give it to the poor. I don’t see this happening even to the 1% from the church and especially not from the leaders. Very disappointing.

      @@LoganBeck Let me ask you....have YOU sold EVERYTHING you have and given the money to the poor? Also, keep things in context....when Jesus said this, He was speaking to an individual referred to in the Bible as 'the rich young ruler'. This man felt he had kept all the commandments, but Jesus knew his heart. Jesus knew that he clung to his riches and and placed them before God in his life. The counsel Jesus gave was for this individual and was not a blanket statement that applied to all. God is not opposed to wealth (look at Abraham and Job, Genesis 13:2; Job1:1-3), but it is the LOVE of money (not money itself) that causes problems in people's lives. (1Timothy 6:10). Elsewhere Jesus said 'it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for those who 'TRUST IN RICHES' (not those who HAVE riches) to enter the kingdom of God'. (Mark 10:23-25). It's all about your relationship with money and whether it is impacting negatively on your relationship with God. Abraham and Job had great riches but they handled them responsibly and valued their relationship with God above everything....and the fruit of their lives bear this truth out. 'By their fruits you will know them' (Matthew7:15-20).

The teachings there to protect us spiritually. As I’ve seen both sides of the coin as I’ve seen lifestyle affects outside and inside, with and without. And I can say with all my heart I feel something really real here that I never felt anywhere else. Study and learn and pray for yourself with a sincere heart and you’ll have your heart softened and eyes opened! Blessings to you all!

    6:55 is a tough one, because yes, the Lamanites were given a dark skin as sign of a curse. However, people generally don't understand what a curse is, many even confuse damnation with curse.
    We are all cursed because of the transgression of Adam and Eve, but that doesn't mean we are all damned or bear the "original sin".
    Bottom line is: This is a genuine concern to many people but you can't explain it in a few minutes nor should you wash it away.

      I think it does no one any good to bury the past and it could be harmful in this case. These young people seemed completely shocked by the question when really they should've been educated on church history specifically so they would never be thrown by this question or others like it.
      To be clear, this type of question doesn't come out of thin air and this is a topic that may very well come up on missions. The church promoted a very clear viewpoint in living memory that certainly seems to be racist. I'm grateful for further revelation that made the church's stance today very clear in rejecting racism, but even the church acknowledges that this wasn't always the case:
      "Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form."

Why would God give free agency and then use an angel with a flaming sword to threaten you to do his will? Why is coffee so bad that if you drink it you can't go to the temple but Red Bull is fine? Why did God change his mind on if children of gay parents should be baptized in just a few years time? Why would God give two contradicting commandments at the same time and make it impossible to follow both?

    • @CalledtoShare
      @CalledtoShare  Před 2 lety +1

      Great questions.
      1) The account that is used was canonized in the Pearl of Great Price and thus became the best known account. That's why it's used by the missionaries, but all the accounts are found here > www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/first-vision-accounts?lang=eng
      2) Great question. Plural marriage must have been really important.
      3) Not sure. I trust the revelation given in section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenant. Hot drinks are specifically mentioned, Red Bull isn't.
      4) President Nelson gave a whole talk on this at BYU. Link should start at the 1709 mark where he references this > czcams.com/video/bBT4c5jWTms/video.html
      5) If this is in reference to the Garden of Eden, I have thought that it might have been possible God didn't want them multiplying and replenishing right away, but later. Consider the law of chastity, there is a sequence to us living that law. Before marriage, sexual relations are prohibited. After marriage, sexual relations are divinely approved between husband and wife, legally and lawfully married. Perhaps God didn't want Adam and Eve to partake of the fruit for a time, and then that command would be lifted so they could multiple and replenish. Just a thought. This one has always confused, me, and the whole Christian world. I can't wait to fully comprehend this one day.
