That man really represents the view of an ordinary 19th century red neck American dude although I strongly believe most of the current American people think that way. No, I'm not talking about the video but this: First Presidency statement (President George Albert Smith)
    August 17, 1949
The attitude of the Church with reference to Negroes remains as it has always stood. It is not a matter of the declaration of a policy but of direct commandment from the Lord, on which is founded the doctrine of the Church from the days of its organization, to the effect that Negroes may become members of the Church but that they are not entitled to the priesthood at the present time. The prophets of the Lord have made several statements as to the operation of the principle. President Brigham Young said: "Why are so many of the inhabitants of the earth cursed with a skin of blackness? It comes in consequence of their fathers rejecting the power of the holy priesthood, and the law of God. They will go down to death. And when all the rest of the children have received their blessings in the holy priesthood, then that curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and they will then come up and possess the priesthood, and receive all the blessings which we now are entitled to."
President Wilford Woodruff made the following statement: "The day will come when all that race will be redeemed and possess all the blessings which we now have."
The position of the Church regarding the Negro may be understood when another doctrine of the Church is kept in mind, namely, that the conduct of spirits in the premortal existence has some determining effect upon the conditions and circumstances under which these spirits take on mortality and that while the details of this principle have not been made known, the mortality is a privilege that is given to those who maintain their first estate; and that the worth of the privilege is so great that spirits are willing to come to earth and take on bodies no matter what the handicap may be as to the kind of bodies they are to secure; and that among the handicaps, failure of the right to enjoy in mortality the blessings of the priesthood is a handicap which spirits are willing to assume in order that they might come to earth. Under this principle there is no injustice whatsoever involved in this deprivation as to the holding of the priesthood by the Negroes.

RE: do the prophet no harm.
Do not speak against the Lord's anointed.
Pres. George Albert Smith is the Lord's prophet.
      .
      YOU SAID
      That man
      REPLY
Latter-day Saints are taught to respect the religious leaders of other Christian denominations.
Pres. George A. Smith is revered as a prophet of God in the Church of Jesus Christ.
Referring to Pres. Smith as "that man" is disrespectful.
      Were you deliberately disrespectful?
      If so ...
      Please, Help Stop Religious Bullying
Name-calling, mockery, and insults are ~
abusive, offensive, and a form of bullying.
The charitable, patient and understanding among us promote unity between those who are different from us; but when we ridicule and hold intolerance towards those who hold different opinions than our own, what are we if not bigots.
      .
      YOU SAID
That man [the prophet of God] really represents the view of an ordinary 19th century red neck American dude
      REPLY
      red neck ...
Redneck is chiefly a derogatory term, applied to white Americans perceived to be crass and unsophisticated; nevertheless, a couple the foremost characteristics of rednecks is that they are hardworking, charitable, God-fearing folk who love their families and the freedoms found in America; and that my friend is not ordinary but extraordinary.
      Once again,
Religious bigotry and bullying is unnecessary and unacceptable.
If we have said or done anything objectionable, telling us what it is that you disagree with is important but it is much more important for you to explain ~ why you disagree.
      .
      YOU SAID
although I strongly believe most of the current American people think that way.
      REPLY
      I respectfully disagree.
I don't believe many people understand what the quote in question means, and hence, I do not believe that many people think that way.
      .
      YOU SAID
No, I'm not talking about the video but this:
First Presidency statement (President George Albert Smith)
      REPLY
You've told us what you disagree with in general but not in specific terms; and, you have not explained why you disagree. I am willing to listen if you are willing to explain you P.O.V, but, allow me to say the following first: ... an important part of the quote says this, "the details of this principle have not been made known," ... hence, I doubt that anyone understands what principle in the quote in question means.
      Nevertheless,
I am willing to listen ...
In the name of Jesus Christ.
      peace.

      news flash:
      my bishop is black.
      .
      Now after that good news...
Let's unpack your comment to see what you want to know and if we have an answer for you.
      .
      YOU ASKED
Do you think black people bear the curse of Cain.
      REPLY
      Have you read our ...
      Articles of Faith ???
      Article two reads:
We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
To my understanding, this means that each man is responsible for his own actions.
So no ... I do not believe that God curses one man for another mans sins.
      .
      YOU ASKED
(Do you think) that God commanded them (black people) to be excluded from the priesthood
      REPLY
no ... nevertheless, I do believe that the Lord has the whole world in his hands.
      in the meantime...
I think what you are asking is ~
Why did blacks not receive the priesthood?
Here's the best answer I could find.
" Known to God, not man.
From the beginning of this dispensation, Joseph Smith and all succeeding presidents of the Church have taught that Negroes, while spirit children of a common Father, and the progeny of our earthly parents Adam and Eve, were not yet to receive the priesthood, for reasons which we believe are known to God, but which He has not made fully known to man. "
(First Presidency letter, December 15, 1969)
      Further...
David O. McKay, president of the Church from 1950 to 1970, stated: “There is not now, and there never has been a doctrine in this church that the Negroes are under a divine curse. There is no doctrine in the church of any kind pertaining to the negro. We believe that we have a scriptural precedent for withholding the priesthood from the negro. It is a practice, not a doctrine, and the practice someday will be changed. And that’s all there is to it.” - David O McKay, 1954 source: Sterling M. McMurrin affidavit, March 6, 1979. See David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism by Greg Prince and William Robert Wright. Quoted by Genesis Group Archived 2011-07-13 at the Wayback Machine source found in Wiki under “Black people and teimple and priesthoodpolicies in the CoJCoLdS also Black Latter-day Saints.org has a partial quote from the SLT.
      .
      Here's a little from Wiki
The church consistently taught against the abuse of slaves and advocated for laws that provided protection [wiki]
      .
      Here's a little more...
      * 1836 - Elijah Abel, a black man, was ordained to the Priesthood by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1836, and ordained a Seventy by Zebedee Coltrin on April 4, 1841. He was washed and anointed in the Kirtland Temple, and served three missions for the Church.
      • 29 Sep 1935 - Elijah Abel, grandson of Elijah Abel, is ordained an Elder. I don't know how long the grandson lived, but if he lived to the age of his namesake then he would have been alive in 1978 when the priesthood was extended to all worthy members of the Church.
So ya, this is a fact that is not well known~ There has been at least one black man ordained in the church, from 1836 until the year 1935 and that’s close to 99 years.
      .
During the early days of the United States and the Church almost every Christian denomination was racist against blacks and Native Americans with the exception of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Unlike so many others, Church policy has never sanctioned a segregated congregation and blacks have always had membership in the Church. Blacks have always been treated with love and respect. The worse thing that happened was that at one time blacks could not hold the priesthood. Nevertheless, it was promised by the Lord that they would one day again receive that blessing.
In the meantime... blacks have always had the same promises of eternal reward that whites do. Black and white will receive blessings in exactly the same manner- by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. This is and has always has been the official policy of the Church.
Because, in the years leading up to the Civil War, the Church was favorable to blacks and Native Americans, we were labeled abolitionists and we were persecuted more than any other group. The Slave State of Missouri issued, literally, an “Extermination Order” against the Saints (24 Oct 1838). This is a monumental witness to the truth that the Church is not now, nor never has been racist.
      .
      So...
      What's up ...
Did I mention that my bishop is black...
      .
      peace

It wasn't doctrine that dark skin was the curse of Cain. When the church was first organized, black members DID hold the priesthood. It was after Joseph Smith Jr. Was murdered that it was revoked. Then, in 1979 the priesthood was given to all worthy men regardless of skin colour. Personally, I do NOT believe that dark skin was the curse of Cain. Hope this helps answer your question
