    Men go to war for many things but women only go to war for Vengeance. that's what i got from this episode. ⚔️

      I don't think that's the meaning behind Mariko's words. Her point was that men have the luxury to make up a reason to fight, whereas women are born into a hostile, unfair society, to be married by their fathers and commanded by their husbands. They have no choice but to be at war for all their life.

    Anyone who has read the book, will appreciate that this is an important part of the story.... Maybe, to some viewers, it may seem to be a slow episode.. I have only one comment :- With the exception of the cute Fujiko, why do all the female actors look like 20th Century women, playing the part of 1600 ladies ?

    • @gcm9059
      @gcm9059 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Maybe because it was hard to book 1600 ladies to play the parts.

      @@gcm9059Yes... Ha ha... They would be quite elderly, by now !.... But I find it strange, that Moeka Hoshi ( as Fujiko ) seems to play a very believable lady in the 2024 version, even though she is one of the youngest female cast...

    I’m not a fan of all the offscreen deaths.. very anticlimactic

    • @gcm9059
      @gcm9059 Před 2 měsíci

      One comment that Mariko explained... The absence of a thing is just as important as its presence. If we are to see all the fights, all the deaths, it will detract from the important battles to come, and it will take time away from the world building in a show that is already short of time and skipping a few important scenes from the book.

      @@gcm9059 how does stannis die in GOT ? How does Tywin die? Which one do you remember more? That’s all I’m saying.. I get that the characters that have died aren’t all that important..
      This isn’t on the level of the sopranos “it won’t be cinematic” type of writing or symbolism so just show the act is my opinion

    Toranaga's first replacement is a daimyo by the name of Ito Teruzami, who is described as being weak willed and will be a puppet of the other members of the council. With Ito being appointed to the council of regents, another one of the regents, an ally of Toranaga, by the name of Sugiyama resigns. As planned by Toranaga. Unfortunately Sugiyama and his entire family are captured and killed before they can escape. After that, Toranaga's half-brother Zataki joins the council replacing Sugiyama. It's suggested that perhaps Zataki denouncing his older half-brother and joining the council is part of Toranaga's plan all along.
    Toranaga will never launch "Crimson Sky" which is a last ditch all or nothing contingency plan to attack Osaka. He'll pretend to obey the orders of the council, he'll make excuses about health or weather to delay, all in the while buying time and waiting for when the moment is right and his enemies become impatient and make a mistake. Which will lead to his decisive victory at Sekigehara.
    Mariko will die, she will go to Osaka castle to confront Ishido that will result in him being forced to release all the family members of important daimyo that he is "holding hostage". Ishido will hire ninja to kidnap her and she will commit a form of seppuku to avoid being captured.
    Fujiko will commit seppuku at the end of her 6 month contract to serve as Blackthorne's consort.
    Yabu will be ordered by Toranaga to commit seppuku for treason. He's the one who let the ninja enter the secure Toranaga wing of Osaka castle. Omi will be one of those who gives Toranaga the proof to sentence his uncle Yabu.
    Toranaga will also burn Blackthorne's ship (of course Blackthorne won't realize this will assume it was either the portuguese or the jesuits who hired ninja to do this) to convince the powerful christian daimyo like Kiyama that he is no threat to the church. But this is also a way to save Blackthorne's life as the portuguese and the christian daimyo want Blackthorne dead, so burning the ship will make them think that Blackthorne is neutralized. It's a plan that Mariko and Toranaga conspired together.
    Ishido used ninja, why shouldn't I? But I hired one man and succeeded. Ishido failed.
    The first time I saw you, I said "There's no excuse for rebellion" and you said "There's one- if you win". Ah, Anjin-san, I bound you to me then. I agree. Everything's right if you win.
    Mariko-san, it was your karma to die gloriously and live forever. Anjin-san, my friend, it is your karma to never leave this land. It is mine to be Shogun.

      That was what happened in the book, but this series is getting further and further from the book...I'm thinking the opening credits with the ship sailing through sand is really a spoiler and Blackthorne will get his ship back and sail it accross the mountains to Sekigahara and win the battle with his naval guns, marry Mariko and become Shogun himself
