    A good practice is using an acid cleaner as step 1. RINSE then follow up with a degreaser. A degreaser will neutralize the acid and make sure you get back to neutral.(in case there is acid that didn't get rinsed perfectly ie. Lug nut holes) Just food for thought. Great videos keep it up.

      Could I use a non acidic wheel cleaner instead of degreaser I find degreaser will over spray and take off some of the powder coat on the tires

    I use purple power full strength. Absolutely make sure that the wheels are as cold as can be though..learnt my lesson with the first set of wheels I ruined because they were hot when I sprayed. I've not had any other issues, and it's fairly cheap and works great. I've used megs wheel brightener (even full strength) and it didn't work any better lol - and it cost a lot. Plus purple power cleans the tires very nicely as well.

    • @wilsonautodetailing

    Super clean degreaser is alkaline because it has to remove grease. But as a wheel cleaner, it has to remove tar and brake dust via acid. Many people assume that Super Clean wheel cleaners are are the same thing as the gallon sized Super clean degreaser in a small spray bottle...

  • @collinhopper7542

  • @nadroj6269
    @nadroj6269 Před 3 lety +3

    You need an alkaline cleaner to use after the acid based cleaner to protect the rims. If you use only the acid based wheel cleaner it’ll be more likely to rust/corrode

    • @mebenicolas
      @mebenicolas Před 5 lety +1

      Basically yes, it's not that it will damage like that first wheel but it could in a worst case situation. Once you curb a wheel all the clear is gone and you're facing bare metal. Depending on the wheel and what it's made of it could react like that.

    Good video. I have a new white BMW M240i that I bought 3 months ago
    that now has 3200 miles on it. I don't even know if it has a clear
    coat on it? I just wanted to buy a sports car. I noticed that it has
    mainly traffic film on it near bottom, bumpers and back, I've driven
    it thru snow, salted roads, rain, etc.. I 'm afraid to do a contact
    wash with microfiber mitt and I'm very afraid of swirl marks or
    scratches, I'm new to washing a car myself.I bought a 1800 pressure

    So basically don't use an acidic wheel cleaner on a wheel with curb rash because it will "bleed" the metal of the wheel onto the clear coat. But won't using a degreaser on the wheel corrode the wheel? It seems to me that either type of chemical solution will ruin the wheel if it has curb rash. Is this an accurate understanding or did I miss something.

  • @M.E63
    @M.E63 Před 2 lety

    Regarding ph neutral , I prefer them for wheels but as a snow foam I prefer the higher alkaline snow foams as we want to remove as much dirt as possible before doing a contact wash , I don’t want caustic but a bit higher alkaline as newer cars coming with soft paint and I would rather degrade my protection by 2% than contact wash a dirtier car and cause more swirls , it’s easy to top up protection but new cars have softer and thinner paint so can’t keep correcting the paint

    Stay away from acid based wheel cleaners on many Infiniti brand vehicles. Incase anyone watching this has an Infiniti.

      Positive Vibes it’s those gunmetal wheels on Infiniti vehicles that the acid destroys. It leaves black streaks and spots.

    I can't believe just how much damage the acid wheel cleaner did to the front alloy. Is the damage purely visible on the area the the clear coat has peeled?
    What's the best non acid based cleaning product you've found for wheels?

    Don’t call yourself a professional detailer and say acid wheel cleaners are great. You a regular bottom barrel detailer. Cause once you go up cars in 100000$ range acid will fuck up those sensitive wheels. Polish aluminum, Lexus rims, aftermarket. All gets fuck up by acid. Maybe not first time but over time. What high end detailer you see used acid? No one.
