Jazz players: Fretless are for Jazz
DiGiorgio: Hold my frets
Di Giorgio play jazz too...
@@RobertoGarcia-ml2eq Darkhall
@@diegoq8417 exacto... excelente proyecto y álbum...!!!
Roberto García Everyone and their mom plays jazz, not many play metal without frets.
David Stoker lmao all those bands suck, Disgorge - Cranial Impalement had Fretless, Blood Incantation, Sadus, hell even Cronos from Venom played half of a Fretless haha
It’s not delivery, it’s DiGiorgo.
Connor it’s both
DiGiorgo Delivers, sorry I am late! THIS FUCKING RIPS - I knew there was a reason that the 4 and 5 string fretless I already have were not going to be enough - CHECKMATE SIMPS
😆😎
Thanks buddy
@Connor- Nailed it!!! Hilarious!!
I swear, Testament's current lineup is like a supergroup. Alex Skolnick, Steve DiGiorgio, and Gene Hoglan all in one band is like the stars aligning.
Eric Peterson and Chuck Billy do a great work with them so it is almost the perfect thrash band ! I totally agree with you
yet the last album isn't that good compared to others
Put some respect on Chuck and Eric's name too.
@@themodernguitarist There is no disrespect in that comment, man. Chill
Check out the Gathering album...Lombardo, DiGiorgio, James Murphy...
He is the reason all these Technical Death Metal bassists play a fretless.
sean malone and jeroen paul thesseling sends you regards.
PD: I love SDG too, all those guys are of the same era :)
I got into it because of jazz and indian classical.. and then went back to my metal. tbh i dont think good metal bassist give a lot of shits about what other players do;P since they all have a unique style. But yes this is inspiring such energy!
Yeah. There were for of them, Steve D, Sean Malone, Jeroen P. Thesseling and Tony Choy from Atheist
Yea, Sean Malone should not be forgotten.
Ehm...someone tells to me the usefulness of playing a fretless bass with the same attitude and techniques of a fretted one
Steve's bass playing on _Individual Thought Patterns_ completely drives the album. Every time I hear his bass lines on "Destiny" or the title track I imagine Chuck Schuldiner hearing it for the first time and saying "these bass lines _shouldn't_ work with my riffs, but they do!"
Amazing album
On human you can barely hear his playing but the bass+drums tracks in the remastered version have some ridiculous bass
@@ratchat123yes. Rare case of a remaster being so much better
The way his hand rotates between the gallops. Crazy
Keep in mind this gentleman has participated in 50 albums and was the very first fretless thrash bassist.
Just fucking wow
That right hand is mesmerising
Right! I could watch him play bass ALL DAY! \m/
Absolutely insane just amazing technique!
Very underrated comment man. His technique is insane.
Right. This has something to do with Satan I'm sure. Thats also how he pets the cat 🐈
@@Ndecline not satan, Odin
That is the most fretted sounding fretless bass I’ve ever heard. It’s so raspy like he was playing over stainless steel frets. Definitely a different sound for a fretless imo. I do like it and would swear if I didn’t see the bass, that it was not fretless.
Agree. It sounds nothing like a fretless
Agreed 🤔
With brand new strings it might sound a little like that though. It doesn't sound like his bass.
Ibanez bass
Totally different genre but if you're open to anything check out Pino Palladino and Mick Karn
What a TITAN of the bass Steve is. Great to see he's recovered well from the virus, too.
Its was record before the pandemia in finland
He is a bass monster, it is a pleassure that he has recorded the new MEGADETH álbum 💿
Damn Bassists really deserve more credit, this dudes style is insanely cool.
edit; I think the bass deserves to be turned up a little more in this mix though! Still sounds great.
He's unreal, great bounce in his rhythm
Hail the master SDG! The best sounding fretless you'll ever listen to.
You decide ,what your becoming as musican. Hard work and years of playin', creates a genius, sometimes.
Only sky is the limit.
Lmao, go listen to Dominic LaPointe or Les Claypool
This man changed the way I looked at bass guitar.
Michael Manring - Thonk
@@Xammblu_Games Wow, thanks man. Amazing album.
Same! Now I have to close one eye and squint suspiciously out of the other when I look at a bass
Dear Testament, please keeeeep him as your bassist. You guys are so lucky to have him in your lineup.
Dude's technique is massive and monstrous \m/
Playing fretless bass is equivalent to calculating the time by watching the sky
Has position markers on the neck. Giorgio´s bass have it.
DiGiorgio is definetly on my dream metal band, along with Dimebag, Dave Lombardo and Angela Gossow.
Steve Di Giorgio and Dave Lombardo have already recorded an album together, it was Testament's The Gathering.
The man who can make a fretless bass sound louder than a fretted one!
Aggression and class combined. This man is a genius!!
I had the honor of seeing him play live. What an absolute beast.
Hands down. The best bassist there is! Steve's work cannot be compared. Talked to one guy from Vintersorg that told me that Steve only did one takes with them. Fucking love this dude!
That's cool to know. Visions from the Spiral Generator is one of my favorite albums of all time!
I want this as an isolated bass track
Steve the master Di Giorgio.
Amazing bass player . Legend
I love his triple finger technique, using the ring as the anchor
Love the new record. Steve has such an awesome tone
The best bass sound I ever hear
This album has such a great bass tone, and I had no idea Steve was playing a fretless, that makes it even more impressive! I can't tell if those are flatwounds, but they look like it, and they're much more comfortable on fretless, but getting such a nice clanky tone with flats is also extra hard. Big props to Steve and Darkglass!
Steve uses roundwounds on his fretless
What a bass tone, jesuz Man!!!!! That’s incredible.
I watch this video over and over!
Been a big fan of Testament since the mid 80’s and god damn is this latest album wicked.
Hats off to you Steve, you’re a huge inspiration for all of us no names 🤘🏻
Amazing playing, amazing tone, amazing sound
I wish someone would demo a Darkglass pedal with a crappy bass into a $200 solid state amp.
Using a €500 pedal with a $150 bass and a $200 amp? Not the best way to build a rig, imho. Btw, 90% of the time, bass in metal is just DI, an amp is useful only as a monitor for the player.
He wants to hear the purity of the Darkglass tone
@@somebodysomeone8213 Absolutely! So far, I've only heard it on bass guitars that cost over 1000 bucks played through Aguilar tube amps (or comparable). Gear that already sounds great without a pedal! I own a Schecter C-5 Custom and a little Fender rumble 40 amp! Just want to know how that would sound with say a Microtubes B7K or even a B3K. I'm sure it would still sound awesome. I haven't heard a pedal from Darkglass that sounds bad yet. Love their tone on everything I've heard so far.
@@Astronometric Yeah, I agree. But when you can't afford much, you try to make it sound as good as possible. I have a Schecter C-5 Custom. It's a great bass. But still not as good as an Ibanez BTB, Warwick, or Spector. I can't afford those. But I can afford a $300 pedal, if it's worth it.
@@Mick.Fitzmaurice You should really think about an Alpha Omega, it has a lot of versatility and can get those mean nasty tones like the B7K.
DiGiorgio + Darkglass = Fretless bass with a fretted bass sound
You can tell by his face that he’s thinking about all the killer fills he could be adding to these basslines if Testament let him go all out
Absolutely loving this stripped down version of the song. It really brings out the aggression in the riffs. Steve is killing it \m/
Killer playing!! Tone is to die for!!
Awesome tone!
Amazing work!
Absolutely love the tone of this bass. Still heavy and chunky as needed but cuts through the mix so clearly. God damn, it's fantastic.
The man who inspired me to play bass!
How Darkglass have almost every good metal bassists for their endorsers???
because they make kickass overdrive/distorsion pedals for bass? where other companies just take a guitar pedal and set the frequencies to match the frequencies of a bass, darkglass is designed for bass.
Now every metal bass tone are sounding equal só boring
@@cacadordorio my exact thought. I love my Darkglass plugins but I hate that everyone goes for that treble heavy sound nowadays.
@@SoloNecr0zis because the problem with metal bass tones for years was that the bass was never ever to be able to cut through a mix of heavy guitars and drums. It would just get lost. The reason every bass player that is good is being endorsed by Darkglass is because they solved that problem for them. It is preference when it all boils down to it. But you cannot deny that the tone is pleasant in a full mix. It just makes sense.
Well because unlike other manufacturers that push past accomplishments as "vintage", darkglass is actually pushing forward technology in the bass world.
This is a master class in how it's done. Perfect.
One of the best!!!!! His style so good
Wow amazing bassist definitely one of the best out there ❤
He hit the lotto when he was born. Like Alex his shit is magical! This is a pleasant showing of how to rip a Bass a new input hole lol!
Lovely!
Only this guy right here knows how to play a fretless bass perfectly. Most guys who would even try to would easily be out of tune.
Excellent.
THIS IS SICK ILOVE IT
Steve is seriously badass! 🤘
No matter how many awesome pedals you guys make, they’ll never make me sound like this guy! Great video though, always love watching a master at work.
Lovin the bass and Wardruna rep 🤟
Can't wait to hear him in Megadeth. Although this is metal album of the year.
SO CLANGY man it sounds amazing.
Steve DiGiorgio is a fucking BEAST \m/ now Let the metal Flow DarkGlass!
Amazing!!! he's so effin' good.
Great Sound ! Great Player ! Darkglass electronics rules
Steve has been my favorite metal bass player for years
what a massive sound
Steve Galoping style finger wise is absolutely incredible he’s one of my top player is work with death was obsessive compulsive on my part is definitely one of the top metal player right now
Captivated start to finish
Insane bass playing 💪💪💪🤘🤘🤘
you're a legend man
Darkglass with Nordstrands really sound amazing, even on a fretless, I thought that it was going to have the "fretless" Digiorgio sound but it sound amazing lml
that tone is absolutly sick steve
inigualable es este man. lo que toca! es increible
Don't know what people are bitching about: I can hear the bass just fine. It sounds fucking awesome.
Favorite pedal in my setup! 10/10
can’t go wrong with Darkglass🤘🏻🔥
Sick bass
I love all 😍 (the song, The Legend, the Bass and the B7K). This pedal is the perfect combination between a distortion pedal and a preamp, and a clean booster. I reserve it a place on my pedalboard, beside of my Hyper Luminal 🤩
My first bass was a fretless when i heard Deatn individual tought pattern, i was not alone anymore......
thanks to YOU Steve Di Giorgio ;)
Good sound, best SDG!
Flippity, flammaty, floppaty, crunching bass.....👌😎👌
Damn, I didn't know fretless can have gritty tone.
A rubber band can have a gritty tone if you use the right clipping on the right boosted frequencies.
If you hit the note hard enough you'll get the clank and with distortion, you'll get the grit.
Gritty? It's hardly a Rickenbacker
Roundwounds help, too. Looks like his fingerboard might be epoxy coated to keep the strings from digging in.
@@michaellorenz7177 which would also help with clank too
Why bass volume is so low? 😞😞
two non-mutually exclusive possibilities:
1. because your speakers/headphones may not be able to produce it
2. they mixed it as if it was a final mix and not a bass demo
Insederec wow you’re stupid
get new speakers bud, bass is plenty good
@@JobForAMaxboy lol wtf
@@insederec Correct. It's the mix that Steve DiGiorgio is clearly happy with, otherwise he would have changed it.
yes!!
Bass legend!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve DiGorgio = Legend
Dude, those black "cheater lines" (Steve's words, not mine) on that ebony fretboard are SO slick. I love it. Now I want one.
He is beast!!!!
Getcha pull!
He is simply a machine!!!! 🤘😈
Awesome
Never underestimate a real bassist-thank you Steve!
BADASS!
This gnome rockz!
God damn that tone is insane
Steve is fuckin' fretless bass monster
Great!
It shows without a doubt how good he is.
I remember first seeing this mad man on the Roadrunner united record and was blown the fuck away by what I saw.
Perfection
master of masters
This is real fuking metal. STEVE showing us how its done.
Listening to a fretless properly played is so satisfying.
the man is a beast
goddamn !! Ibanez better make him a signature bass! And oh, there's where those nasty bass tone comin' from...
una leyenda viva, gracias por existir
