China is very safe. My wife and I, pensioners, have travelled independently and extensively in China over the last two and a half years. We have wandered around the streets and parks day and night, travelled by train, boat and bus, yet never once felt unsafe. So many friendly people. And neither of us can speak Chinese. I'm not a vlogger but have put up several video clips of some of the places we have visited for our own convenience, so anyone can check to see if I'm exaggerating. There are still a lot of places we want to visit, as well as a few to revisit but Covid has dashed all our plans. We just hope we can go back again one day. Ironically, the last stamp on my passport is Wuhan last November 29 - we were in transit at the airport on our way home.

Pretty much what I saw at 10PM on the street in Shanghai...and that was like in 2007. People walking alone leisurely. I was so amazed. That was the first time I visited China. Great time.

China is one of the safest Country. I feel safe in Singapore, Japan as much as I feel safe in China. I'm not sure about Western Countries but seeing the racism and robbing and others that are in news, I can't say the same as I haven't been there yet.
Anyway, stay safe. And enjoy your life in China. But safety always come first and give it priority.

I am Malaysian, me and my wife with a small kid walked at night in the dark close to midnight in Beijing and felt completely safe. I never felt the same in Chicago. Within 10min in two cities in US already encountered two strangers asked me for money. In China, zero such thing. Same with Taiwan and Hong Kong. Very safe.

China has an adoption system. If homeless people want to go home, they will be sent home by the government. If the homeless have mental problems, they will be sent to the adoption center, where the government will bear all the care costs.

If the homeless want to learn skills, there are also special schools to admit them. So now there are basically no homeless in the streets of China.
