This man's knowledge about fishing is incredible. Being able to talk at lenght about every fish like that, and lures and everything. Very impressive!
I find it awesome that he was able to name fish before they even show the name. That's a true outdoorsman. Knowledge is crazy.

I love this because it feels like I'm talking about fishing with this wise old man knowing everything about fishing every fish every pole every reel everything!
I created a save point right before the 50% mark/chapter 4 purely for hunting/fishing purposes. Once Arthur gets TB the mood changes significantly. You miss out on legendary cougar/gator, but this is the sweet point for the game. I also go bounty hunting once in awhile to feel like im contributing to the individual towns.
I've done very very similar. I've got a save that I use as my hunting/fishing/hanging out from Ch3 at what I feel is the perfect spot. It's after burning the Gray's tobacco and stealing the Braithwaite's horses (so I can keep the Dark Bay Turkoman which is the perfect horse for Arthur imo).
Everyone is still alive and the overall mood of everyone is really positive compared to the fearful mood of Ch2 (with Sadie no longer grieving). Everyone is in camp with no one mission locked outside of camp (including Trelawny at camp) so there's loads of campfire stories going on. It's immediately before the meeting between Colm and Dutch (only main story mission available) which means Micah is mission locked so sits silently outside of Dutch's tent cleaning his gun and not interacting with anyone (perfect!).
Everything is unlocked at this point - including Legend of the East Satchel and outfit (by completing all challenges except Gambler 10 and any herbalist, then replaying "who is not without sin" to complete gambler 10 and get the outfit without herbalist completed).
To me, this is the perfect spot to free-roam as Arthur. As I said, all camp members being alive and in good spirits makes this the sweet spot - especially with Micah mission locked and silent. Horseshoe overlook is also the best camp imo, it's beautiful (especially at sunset) and being on the coast is cool too.

@@flowerpower003 i personally dont like free world as john cause you kinda got used to arthur and just lost him and also lost such a cozy place as camp with all your favorite characters. However all of the side quests and things like legendary hunting or fishing are still there, you dont lose anything if you skip those during the main story

Tim, I once worked as a park ranger in South Africa for 16 years, working with African wildlife. I would love to spend a couple of weeks with you in the forests there in the USA. It would be an amazing experience.

I've never used a spear to get sturgeon but then again I've never went fishing for them specifically.
Gar is good eating. Hell of a fight to reel in regardless of the size. They got a hard carapace that you need either tin snips or a pretty sharp cleaver to clean them with and you gotta do it ASAP after pulling them out of the water because they release a slime all over their scales that make them damn near impossible to handle to actually clean after a couple of minutes. You also gotta kill it fast and with a buddy because they are just as strong and ferocious on land as they are in the water; their skin is so tough some folks use a .22 to kill them, my dad would use a hammer and nail to get through its head. The hard skin means their meat is actually so buttery smooth and tender that it's the best damn fish I've ever had.

The Legendary “Longnose” Gar is actually a spotted gar.
When he told the story of how he jumped out of the boat to catch the catfish that took his lure, it reminded me of a story from when I was a kid. I was fishing with my Grandma and Grandpa with my brother, and my Grandma hooked a large Pike with her favorite lure. The line snapped, and I kid you not, 5 seconds later my Grandpa hooks the same fish and reels it into the boat. That was a stupid, but tasty fish 😂

I STILL need to beat this game! I used to Slide and Empty dip can on a leader for Pike, man they are dumb!
