  • Introducing expert hunter Tim ‘Spike’ Davis and what better game to welcome him with than Red Dead Redemption 2! Tim walks us through how simply unrealistic hunting in-game is and how wasteful Arthur Morgan is with resources such as meat, feathers, bones, and even bladders. Learn how to navigate animals you're stalking, track blood trails in the snow and never cross an icy river as it’s potentially more dangerous than a grizzly bear! Did you enjoy Tim’s commentary and expertise?
The action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in a Western-themed setting. In the game, players explore a fictionalized version of the Western, Midwestern, and Southern United States in the late 1800s, during the wild period of the Wild West. The player controls Arthur Morgan of the Van der Linde gang, a member of the outlaw gang, as he completes numerous missions to advance the plot.

there is a difference between hunters and poachers.
Hunters take extreme care when in the wilderness. And they have to. If they destroy their hunting grounds that only harms not only them but the entire ecosystem.
Poachers hunt not caring about the area. They would destroy it if it meant catching their game.

You put in the work to butcher it, you put in the work to line up a clean shot, you put in the work to pack it out. By the end, you think about every yard you had to drag it, every hour you spent cutting meat, and you have gratitude and respect for that animal every time you take a bite. Most people will never experience it, but food tastes better when you killed/grew it yourself.

@@edi9892 it looks like the animal model is just its carcass with skin draped over it. So it doesn't need to have a separate rig to animate the carcass. *Its already rigged up.*
Unless you mean the *skinning animation*. In which case, it would double the work needed. But not as much as you think.
Many animals in the game share the *exact same* skinning animations due to having similar body types.
Deer, pronghorn, wolf, fox, coyote, and boar have the same skinning animation, for example. The obly real difference is whether something is taken from other bosy parts, like a wolf getting _something_ taken from its head. Its basically a tacked on addition with no real modeling. So they should just share the same "butchering" animation.
Off the top of my head the skinning animations are:
      1 Snake
      2 Bird feathers
      3 Bird meat
      4 Raccoon, iguana, opossum, rabbit
5 Wolf, coyote, fox, deer, pronghorn, boar
      6 Elk, moose
      7 alligator
      8 Bear
But for the sake of simplification, I'll remove the Bird meat animation so it'll be replaced by Bird butchering animation.
So that's 7 skinning animations, which means only 7 butchering animations are needed. Not 200 for the 200 species the game has.

My uncle used to deer hunt (Bow hunting too, I believe) and I remember he'd always send us a lot of venison sausage if he had a good season. The meat always tasted fantastic too, which after watching this would seem to imply the animals didn't suffer needlessly or need to be run down (Not a lot of lactic acid).
It's not for me, personally, but I understand the need for it and as long as it's carried out ethically I don't have an issue with it. Honestly, meat you get from a hunter who respects the animal and makes sure it doesn't needlessly suffer is more ethically sourced than most of what you'll find at a deli in a supermarket.

It's nice to hear you say that, as there are so many "animal friends" who hate hunters, because they have decided that they are in fact just murderers who hunt for sport and just enjoying killing. They don't understand that hunters do more for wild animals than they ever will sitting home eating vegetables, signing petitions and spouting on social media. I'm a hunter in Sweden, and in my opinion we have some of the most, if not the most ethical hunting in the world. Of course there are always rotten eggs, but we do everything possible to make sure the animal is taken care of in the proper way, and do not suffer.

    • @getous
      @getous Před 2 lety +6

I'm a hunter. Unfortunetly we do not have eagle eye in real life, tracking an animal can be quite difficult depending on the terrain and vegetation. If it's wounded it will be easier, but tracking an unwounded animal is very difficult unless you happend to be somewhere were the tracks are easily visible because of the terrain. I'm in Sweden, and we utilize dogs A LOT for our hunting, and they do most of the tracking, however I just got back from a moose hunt today and we were tracking a moose only a few hours ago.

@@TheJadedJames Yes I was just joking about the vision ofc. Droppings really only tells you if it's fresh or not. Tracks in snow is very easy to see, however can be difficult to follow if you're on foot and not in skiis for instance. Tracks in the forest can be difficult the in non-snowy conditions unless its soft terrain. Broken foliage can give you signs that something has been there, but rarely if it's recent or not. Where we hunt for instance, we know the tracks the animals usually take. They have their set routes they always use, you can see a "path" through the woods from where they usually move, even if they haven't been there in a while.
