Yeah we also have two supposedly italian chefs who called their pizza "mediterranean" and put smoked salmon on it. That's like me making my "french-style" pasta, with curry and sriracha sauce
some of us have grandparents off the boat and married into other Irish families, but it's not like we haven't been exposed to pizza. Even the Irish neighborhoods have a pizzeria every few blocks.
@@bobdonovan34ours was spaghetti over pizza. Grandparents came from the depression era. Irish woman and native man. You get one hell of a mix of grandkids. Italian cooking was very popular cause it feed a lot of people.
Fun fact: Michael Testa, the boy who was spinning the dough at the start of this video, is currently 18 years old and is still doing this! He and his family have a restaurant in New Jersey, and it seems to be doing well!

For a Jersey guy having to carry a Chicago guy over the finish line on pizza, above average IS 10/10
Compared to the rest of the pizzas served, it was pretty much michelin star.
Also, it seems like the Wolfgang guy's pallet is pretty high-class. So getting an average from a high-level expert is comparable to an 8 out of ten for an average Joe.

I've eaten at plenty of overpriced "gourmet" restaurants with overengineered dishes, but the places I *want* to eat are pretty much all little hole-in-the-wall joints that do 1-3 things extraordinarily well.

Indeed he has fine taste and Making Gourmet Pizza is something that he cooks in one of his restaurants a lot as it is a popular menu item at that particular restaurant that he owns and cooks
I'll speak from my experience working in two different pizza shops when I was in high school and university. These pizza challenges are designed to fail. I don't know if it was the producers, or just the fact that the contestants were put into their own mental box [We have a pizza oven. We have to use the pizza oven!]. To use the pizza oven, the crust needs to be a lot thinner, the oven has to be a lot hotter (750-800F), and they can't crowd the oven. Everytime you put a cold dough on the oven floor, it cools it down and will not cook properly. For that challenge, I would have put a pizza dough into a well oiled, screaming hot cast iron pan, fried it on one side in the convection oven (450F), taken it out, flipped it, and then sauced and topped it with something very simple, and finished it in the convection oven.

Quality truffles can go all the way up to $500 (I have seen it higher a few times) for an Oz. So if there is a good amount of quality truffles on a decent-sized pizza it could absolutely be priced at $200 but worth more.

Blue team lost the plot in the second challenge. Throwing a bunch of expensive ingredients on a plate does not make it gourmet, a shockingly common problem I've noticed on Hell's Kitchen. Can't impress anybody with chanterelles if you can't even clean them properly.
Prosciutto and arugula on a pizza definitely doesn't make it gourmet either, though, I can get that from the pizza chains around here

Well after they announced the blue team won they wanted to try kashia and Bev's pizza theu basically said it was the best out of all of them

I’m glad that the season 4 girls won! It felt like they really worked together and embraced the teamwork aspect of the challenge 💜

Gordon did say that his signature dish was good, the seafood in particular, but the pancake ruined it. I think he may have been a competent chef, just not up to same level as everyone else.

There’s no way that white truffle pizza is worth $200 based on taste alone.
They can range anywhere from $5 to $300 for an oz so I think it would depend on the quality and amount of truffles on the pizza and if it's quality truffles. I could see it absolutely being $200

funny how the one "pizza" that was made that scored high looked like a actual pizza youd see at your pizzeria. gourmet pizza isnt a thing its just a bastardized version of pizza with people trying their ass off to be fancy for no reason. Pizza is basic food easy to make but hard to master and it should stay that way.
I know right! Even Ramsay’s “pizza” looks horrifying. Would never pay 200$ for that.
"Gourrmet pizza" is usually the way it is done in real Italian pizza places, even in Italy. Even more so there.
