- What an opportunity! Due to the delivery stops, there have recently been doubts in the community about the qualities of the R 1300 GS. So of course NastyNils immediately took advantage of THIS opportunity. Touratech Portugal is organizing a rally in the Azores. The motorcycles are hardly spared. The test motorcycle comes from the Touratech fleet and already has 7.000 kilometers on the clock. The bike has another 1.000 kilometers to go here in the Azores. What defects occur in rough use? How good is the BMW R 1300 GS really? What quality problems occur?
NastyNils reports!

It’s so refreshing to hear an opinion from someone with an independent mind and not a journalist frightened of not getting invited to the next corporate p*** up if they mention anything negative.
With some Touratech scaffolding bolted on, the bike starts to look more like a BMW. Thank you from London.
Thanx for your Feedback. Greetings Nils
That situation of the bike not liking low revs is crucial! Well done in bringing it up
part of the issue is that they raised the gearing in 5th and 6th gear, for better highway cruising and lower revs. No surprise it no longer lugs as well in those now higher gears.
That has got to be the best and honest professional review I have seen for a motorcycle 👍
❤🎉thanx , Nils
4000 miles in 8 weeks, best bike I have ever owned ! Has 4 1250's also several Ktm 1290 super adventures. This bike is outstanding 👌
Just curious, why so many bikes?
hope your critics will be heard for the next year version and thanks a lot for this well balanced review
Thank you, I haven't brought the R1300GS, so thankfully I'm not classified as a GS rider. Instead, I'm a HD rider with a 2022 Pan Am Special, army green version and I love it. I fitted a V&H muffler and this increased the bottom end power significantly, making it more like a V twin should be, and it sounds great. My second HD, as I have a 1988 Lowrider as well, with a sidecar.
Really honest detailed review.
Thank you. Greetings nils
Wow what an informative review.
Thank you. Greetings Nils
Great stuff
Nice review thanks a lot. Talking about spray, I notice that the rear mud guard is missing on your bike, so it must have quite a lot of influence on the overall result here.
Its not that the bike doesn't like low rews but because it has longer gear ratio and it is a step forward especially on a motorway! The shiftcam switch is now also higher in rews range so when You cruise You no longer have the problem switching from one cam to another.
Thank you for the comment about the low revving nature of the motorcycle. That is a bad characteristic in my opinion also. I have not heard other reviewers discuss it in the detail that you have. I really appreciate it. I have not had a chance to ride the motorcycle yet but I will soon. I will definitely look out for that.
thank you. greetings. Nils
I just updated my GS1250 with a 1300... I totally regret that. This is more a XR than a GS. The heat from the fan goes directly to you leg making the ride a hell. Suspension is hard as hell, no matter if you adjust it. An indeed, this bikes does not works on low revs.
Have you had normal version or adv? I ve Just bought 1250gs adv as last version (second time actually), as 1300 felt to small for me
If you can get a chance to ride a R1300GS with the sport suspension, I think you would like it more. It has 20mm more travel and a stronger spring. For the battery I have been running heated gear and auxiliary lights at the same time. No battery issues at all.
Take care of it it will take care of you.
……sir,isn’t that a Transalp in your thumbnail?😂
If you look quick it definitely looks like a GS without beak 🫢
Freudian slip.....
didn't know Nils speaks English so well ;-)
With your critisism of the suspension off road, did your test bike have the sports suspension option or the adjustable hight system? The sports suspension is the option for hard off road.
Stock suspension he said
i recognize sao miguel!
Sick video can you guve us your heigt i want to know if you are comfortably sit on the bike and the wind protection for a rider of 1.86cm
The rider in the video is 1.85 m tall.
looking for a used one
A week? Where did you put all your luggage?
We left the luggage at the hotel. we started every day from the same spot. greetings Nils
Very nice Suzuki V-Strom, but it's kinda overpriced. :D
1250 is the way to go.
Brings better resale value to the older 1250’s!
I have an r1250gs Rallye. I'm gettin the 1300. It's better.
Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally is more better. I will not change to new GS.
More betterer...
Betterderder
Extra most best!
Love mine!
This analysis shows that you are just ignorant, I already had a Ducati multistrada and Gs and as a big trail the GS is much better...
More engin sound,less talk. merci🤙🤙
Why are motorcycles been called " SHE " ?
That comes from our german speaking mentality, where a motorcycle is always female. Also as we tend to love our machines as much as our significant other, some even more :), it seems appropriate. Hope it doesn't cause too much confusion. Cheers ✌️
It is a characteristic of the german language where an article like „the“ often times is also a male/ female pronoun like „he/she“. In english it is „the sun“ or „the sky“. In german it is „die(she) sonne(sun)“ or „der(he) himmel (sky)“. The same goes for the motorcycle as a machine. „The machine“ in english and „die(she) maschine(machine)“ in german. So a machine is always female in the german language and therefore a she. My english isn‘t good enough to explain you every detail but i think you get the point 🤗
In English cars and bikes are also reffered as "she"
You ride a Motorcycle, not Drive it.
No enduro pack, no sports suspension, no rear mudguard so your conclusions are somewhat misleading especially for more serious off-road riding
Quality has tanked on that thing. Bike oooks kine it is 10 years old and has 80k on it
it cost more than a car and is over rated
The 1300 GS is what happens to a 1250 GS when you engineer away its soul.
Way too ugly and cheap looking - and a bit too small - for me to be interested in one of these. My 1250 is my final GS if this is the future. No matter how well it goes.
