This game came out when I was like 14 and it scared the nuts off me. And I was big into horror movies. Just something about playing it.
5:38 was one of the most disturbing things I'd seen. The crying baby and junkies hits uncomfortably close to reality, while the Malefactor crawling out of a pool of blood solidifies the symbolism of drug abuse.
Perfect example of nightmares becoming reality.

As a Silent Hill fan, the symbolism of these creatures are very interesting.

I can honestly say that I want a reboot or some remakes of The Suffering on modern hardware and distribution.
The story and characters were nothing to call home about, but the setting and the blending of genres was a neat idea, and I'd love to see the series get some love in the form of a reboot or remakes.
Definitely sad to see that there's been no love given to such an interesting series in so long. It would be a great way for a new story about new characters in a new prison or city environment coping with these supernatural creatures and happenings, and it'd be especially cool to potentially have multiple playable characters seeing their own way through the story in their own perspectives (An escaped Inmate, a former police officer haunted by PTSD, a disgraced former doctor/EMT having to cope with the loss of a particular patient, etc., all shaping how their inner demons haunt them and how their monstrous "transformation" is portrayed and functions in-game).
There's so much potential for this franchise to go somewhere amazing, and I do hope the current holders of the rights to The Suffering do something with them or sell them to someone who does want to make a new game, because watching the Monsters & Bosses videos for both these games reminded me just how fucked up the games where when I was a middle/high-school kid playing these to distract myself from the stresses of homework and school drama.

Damn, this game was a huge part of my life as an 11-12-year-old. I remember when my mom worked at a pawn shop when I found this game, and since the boss was a cool guy, he let me have it. This game was like nothing I'd played before, and I was replaying it over and over again, until the CD became too damaged to play. Still have memories of this game all the time, and wish it still worked. Still sucks that Midway Games is no longer around. This game, as well as many of their other games, were huge parts of my childhood.

The Suffering 1 and 2 are among the best horror games I've ever got to play. I feel like the two games are underrated tho. I'd love to see a remaster or remake all together. I played this game when I was a kid, it was a lot to take in and certain parts of the game made me stop and think. ESPECIALLY THAT TRENCH COAT PIMP GUY, like wtf, dude had stripper corpses coming out of his jacket!
I think the pimp guy or the man with the maulers appears through the game depending in what side (good or evil) you decide to be, but i don't remember who was in which side

surprisingly for me, in ties that bind, when you got out of the vent in the dark and you hear the suppressor dragging himself on a blood trail that was the NOPE moment for me to stop playing for a while until I wasn't that scared.

I absolutely love the design of the enemies in both Suffering games and how they have a relevance to the setting and its history. The first game may have had some of the most disturbing enemy designs in all of gaming.
I think the reason why the arsonist slides across the ground is that they didnt exactly know how to animate 3 legs. dead space 2 puker had also 3 legs but they had figured out how to animate its movements. tho there is 6 years between these games.

Not really. It’s pretty heavy handed. The only thing to say about the symbolism in this game is “it exists”. That doesn’t mean the game is bad though, I’m not saying that.
They’re not as good as the ones from the first game but they’re alright.

Games like Suffering and Silent Hill have always nailed creature design, and giving enemies their own iconic looks, sounds, and behavior. I wish we could get more modern horror games with this kind of attention to basic enemies.
Also, is the Baltimore Gorger urban legend mentioned in game a real myth? I've never heard of it.

We’re referring to a Character from Warframe. Clem is a Rough from a faction called the Grineer. A militaristic Faction in space composed of Human Clones that wither rather fast. Clem had a Genetic disorder that made him short and disloyal to the Grineer. But it also made him a talented fighter. His weapons of choice being the Twin Grakatas. A Grineer Sub Machine Gun known for it’s fast firerate. Clem is a Clone of a few words, he only says “Clem,” and “Grakata.”

I truly liked The Suffering series. One of the most underrated horror games I've played. To me, The Suffering was Midway Games/ Netherrealm Studios answer To Konami's Silent Hill and Capcom's Resident Evil. Too bad its long forgotten.
That moment you realize that Creeper is voiced by Dash Baxter from Danny Phantom and King Goobot from Jimmy Neutron.
Honestly the main liner intro is the most disturbing to me because of the baby cries from next door, the connection of children and drugs is so horrific

Given that there's still police in town as well as military, maybe when a gun becomes inoperable, it just takes one from its fallen victims. Or maybe it's supernatural in nature.

Some creatures have guns in their flesh and yet still manage to fire them and with good accuracy, so I don’t think they go much realism very much. Like someone else said, it could be supernatural.

One thing I loved about the game is that, when Torque hulks out... it's all just in his mind. To everyone else, he just goes berzerk and gets ultra vicious and dangerous, but in his own mind, he becomes this twisted, bladed, hulking monstrosity. Which makes you REALLY wonder about this last fight of the game, if he was fighting in his own head while hordes of malefactors were actually appearing and trying to kill him. That they weren't just mook enemies of Blackmore, but were entirely separate from Blackmore and just coincidentally were fighting Torque at the same time he was trying to take Blackmore down.
And that depending on how you played/built Torque, what things you did or didn't do, how twisted his rage mode is changes, until he more directly resembles his normal self, if a bit nightmare-ish.
imagine seeing a regular looking guy tear a monster apart with his hands. imagine being one of the survivors that saw torque go crazy lol
I like that the enemies went from the executed from a prison, to victems (or perpetrators) of violence and anarchy
I rather miss games like this. Ones where every enemy, even the dregs, had a theme and a story behind their look. One may call it a shtick, but...hey I like shticks. XD

I loved both the first and second Suffering. I’d love to see a sequel on current gen. Back then it was cool to be able to switch from 1st and 3rd person point of view.
The suffering is one of the best ps2 & xbox game's. It'll be nice to get a remake one day.

I'm guessing that the triggerman is a higher form of marksman from "The Suffering" but the marksman is a humanoid creature, the triggerman and marksman kill victims in the same way but both have different origins… though I'd love to see a triggerman fight a marksman.
This game, trough their two games, leaves quite a few questions unanswered like for example torque's origins anda powers (protagonist) anda where exactly this creatures come from (some of them seems to show a supernatural origin while others man made). Despite of some details, the design of the creatures anda its atmosphere makes this game really unique among the horror games up to this day, quite underrated jewel

I remember vividly seeing a poster of the thumbnail, it was in my brother's room, I had to stay in his room and I remember how terrified I was from looking at it I even had a dream where the monsters were walking the streets right outside, now 14 years later I now know that it was from a pretty cool game

The suffering 1 and 2 are one of my favorite horror games wish they can do a remake or a reboot on this game. If the movie industry wouldn't mess with movies so much I would love to see this as a movie.

Wow, never seen the good ending.. I got Neutral and Bad.. I kind of liked the Bad Creature's abilities.
Very interesting that Blackmore wasn't transforming either, and the Horde wasn't present in the fight. I remember you had to fire RPGs in its mouth.
If i'm not mistaken, each Torque's creature use some malefactors abilities: The neutral one resembles the one from the first game, even in his special attack. The good one is a little blueish and resembles a more human form like Torque, its special attacks are chains from the burrower, the triggerman guns, and the blast from the isolationist. The evil creature is more like a devil with insect forms, and its special attacks comes from the arsonist fire, the slayer blades and the wrench.

So in the middle of watching this so far I haven't seen any of the bosses bios at least I think that the boss is never played the game but just really love the look of these things and kind of the lore seriously you did something in that Silent Hill could only want to do literally invading Humanity
