    Its so sad that most of people around the world keep their canaries in very small cages all their life with bad dowel perches .. I wish your channel get more popular and more people would get the information they need to make their canaries more happy .. 🐥💛

    Fantastic video! And that ending clip with the card was too precious!
    Having an activity centre for our canaries by an east-facing window is really good enrichment for them. They get some food, a large water trough, and plenty of things to climb on, all while basking in the morning light. They love to sunbathe so much!
    I'd be really interested in a video that goes in-depth into what sorts of materials (such as non-toxic metals and substrates) and plants are bird-safe.

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před rokem

      Try to have the windows/mirrors closed in the beginning and place something before them where they can sit on. This will train them to land before them and not fly into them! You can uncover the mirrors and windows every now and then so they can slowly learn that they can't go through them

    Thanks a million for your video. We are considering getting two budgies or canaries. Since we have a dog, we most likely won't ne sble to let them outside their cage (a lot). Our dog discovered a mouse on pur terrace and only petter it gently and curiously, so I am sure, it would not bark at the birds.
    What advice could you offer on getting birds when you already have a cat or a dog? Your advice will be very much appreciated! Thanks again. 😊

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 4 měsíci

      Hii, I'm so sorry for just responding now, I totally missed your comment 🙈
      I think it's most important to always supervise when the dogs and cats are in the same room as the birds, even if the birds are caged as accidents can happen in freaky ways (and maybe get a cage with thicker bars to increase safety). When the birds do roam around the room, I would make sure neither the dogs or cats are in the same room and it's only the birds. Preferably I would house the birds in a room where the dogs and cats don't have access to, just to be safe 💛

      They do make the room dirty yes, but we clean the poops every evening (they also poop in places they sit the most, so we use napkins on those spots)

  • @richardgordon-smith239
    @richardgordon-smith239 Před 5 měsíci

    Thanks for the cool video. Quick question, how do you handle all the poopies they make when you let them roam outside the cage? Have you managed to train them to only poop in the cage. If so please let me know the secret!

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hii! Thankyou so much! 💛 They mostly poop on their playgrounds or other places they love sitting on where I have placed paper towels. But when canaries are fed the correct diet, their poops are kinda firm and in 1 piece, so easy to clean with a wet cloth 😄
      I haven't trained them to poop in a specific place, and I would advice not train that to a bird either as it makes the risk for prolapses increase 😖
      I spend around 5 minutes every evening wiping the poops away with a wet cloth (I often use baby cloths) and never have any issues with getting it away 😄

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před rokem

      Are they indoors? Then I would keep the room the same temperature as always, as long as they are not in draft they can endure most temperatures (I think they like temperatures between 17 to 24°Celsius the best 😄) They live better on a low humidity, because of their origins 😄

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 2 lety

      Thankyou so much for wanting to adopt the little canary 🥰
      The experiences most people have with male x female and male x male (and even female x female) are very different. Sometimes it goes well and sometimes it results in fighting 😅 it depends on both birds their characters 😄
      I think 2 males can go well together as long as they don't have to compete during breeding season, but if there are no females close then they often don't find the need to compete 😄. Also a male and female (this is the combination I have) can go very well and they will only breed during breeding season (when the days get longer and warmer) you can replace the real eggs with fake ones if you don't want baby birdies to be born 😄 the other times of the year they are like companions, playing, napping and flying together 💛

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před měsícem

      @@milachan5770 if you add a third male the chance of them fighting is bigger due to their hormones (especially in summer they can become meanies). • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 2 lety +1

      That mostly depends on if and how many males or femals you have. Males tend to get more territorial during breeding season and normally don't share females 😄 and females can also get territorial for her nest. Although I know a group of canaries that don't mind sharing partners and nests 😂
      Canaries are originally group animals 😄 so are more happy when they live together

      @LemonBirbs  Před 2 lety +1

      It is possible that they would still make nests and lay eggs in August, but I would try to prevent it. August is very close to their moulting period (some birds are even already finished with moulting in August) and they need all off their energy for that 😄.

    How to breed this type of bird for commercial without issue? The problem is that we have this bird is dying immediately after hatching, the mom not feeding the babies and the babies are dying. What is the reason why the mom not feeding the babies and leave the babies die?

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 2 lety

      Do you know the history of the lines of the parents (so possible illnesses, inbred, etc.)? Is dad feeding them? How old are mom and dad? Do they have stress factors near? And what temperature is it? Also are they indoors or outdoors?
      There are a lot of reasons why parents don't or stop feeding the babies 😓
      Normally the maximum nesting rounds per year are 2, otherwise the mom can get exhausted, get illnesses and/or die. Breeding season is around end spring, begin summer (with colder temperatures the parents can leave the babies to die because that's what happens in nature too). It's also important to not give them unnecessary stress. If they don't feed their babies and let them die then maybe don't breed with this mom again 😓

    I'm caring for a baby house finch that's nest was attacked by a crow. This bird survived and is ok but the other baby birds
    got killed. My neighbor rescued him and she works gave him to me when he was 12 days old.
    This is day 33 and baby bird is doing well. At first I was feeding him every hour or two for 15 hours a day and keeping him warm and clean in a little box inside a small cage. I think he is about 33 days old today. A week ago I put him in a large budgie cage with
    seeds and greens which he pecks at and eats a little of-but he still wants to be fed. So I still feed him 7-8 times day.
    I let him fly free each day in a room.
    People on FB said I should have taken it to a bird rehabber. I know it is illegal to keep him but I am afraid he will not survive if I release him now. Can I buy a society finch from the pet store so this wild house finch can have a friend?
    Another you tuber hold me that a canary is better companion for this wild hand raised house finch than a society finch.
    What do you think? Yet another CZcamsr said canaries are solitary birds so I am confused.

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for taking care of him! He would indeed have been better off with a wildlife rehabber (we have experience with keeping the animals wild and not get used to us, so they can be reintroduced into nature, and we have been trained in their diet, lifestyle, behaviour and stuff like that for optimal chances). However, that's not the case now, but maybe something to think about when you find another small birdy! 💛
      For now, I think it's best to try and give him less feedings a day to stimulate him eating on his own more 😄
      I also think that he is indeed not suitable to be released into nature now (but you could always call a local wildlife rehabber for advice), however I am uncertain of which bird species would be a better fit due to most species having their own language (I always make the comparison between someone speaking your own language and someone who speaks another language which you don't understand). Another house finch would be the best fit, maybe you could make a public post in hope someone else somehow also has a handraised house finch unable to be reintroduced into nature?
      Also canaries are a bit of both, solitary and group birds 😂 it depends on each individual as some prefer to be on their own, but most prefer conspecifics (I also have seen wild canary flocks foraging and sleeping together) 💛
      One of my dear friends in Australia also has house finches (they legally can't be reintroduced into nature in her country) and I believe she mentioned the other day that the finches do not really make contact with the other birds residing at her sanctuary 😅
      So I think the best option is hopefully finding another hand raised house finch unable for release or maybe a wildlife rehabber local to you can give advice on what to do (I am a wildlife rehabber in Netherland, but there could be different rules and regulations in each country so I am not sure what is possible for you) 💛
      I hope I gave you enough information, but feel free to ask more if some is still not clear or if you want to know more! 😄💛 you could also message me via FaceBook or Instragram if that is easier (links to the accounts are in the description of the video)

    I'm a new canary owner. I'm totally confused. Other sites and youtbubers say that you should gibe them fruits and vegetables once a week. Other pet sites and youtubeers say that vegetables and/or fruits should be given every day or every two days. I don't know what to follow.

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  Před 2 lety

      Very understandable! I think it's a part personal choice too 😄 as long as they get enough vitamins and minerals it doesn't matter how often you give them the vegetables or fruit 💛 also one bird gets very watery poop from having vegetables every (other) day and the other have amazing poops with the same diet 😄 try to figure out what works best for you and you canary by closely watching the poop 😄 and also, have loads of fun and enjoy your time as a canary owner 🥰 best little birdies ever 💛
