I have two munia finches and just discovered a way to avoid throwing uneaten seeds on the small platters, I have a garden so I take the platters out of the cage and blow into them very softly so the shells fly away and voila! haven't wasted any birdseed since!.
I tried that for a while with my canary feed bowls but just ended up with Seed kernels up my nose haha

Thank you so much! The other day I absolutely fell in love with a marshmallow colored canary at PetSmart, and I wanted to find out more! This video really helped me, and I am going to ask my parents for the wonderful bird soon... I know they will say no, but in the future when I get my own, I can say that I’ve done lots of research!
My pair of zebra finches have just started using nest basket. Am well happy. Also got two male java sparrows in separate cage. I blow the chaff off the seeds and top up rather than waste good seed. My top tip! Thanks for this vid. Always good to get new ideas.
Just want to say that I love ur video. Helped me alot to know more about the birds. I have two super cute canaries since three months now... the first one we find him on the street in the rain and kept him, later we bought a female to keep him company. They are so happy together 😊💛
Great video! One thing I would like to say is I had a problem with my zebra finches plucking the feathers off the canaries and quail in my aviary... to make their nests... even though they had nesting material... so people be careful if they have zebra finches.
Also forgot to say they love eating seeding grasses and that is very healthy for them too.

☺ my canary seems happy, i let him out every morning, he flies over to my society finches cage. then he/she loves to fly at & around my head. Why? doesnt sing either 😞

pauline stacey ☺ yeah, they definitely have their own personalitys. could he b singing when u r not home? i had a bird that did that for a while. & sometimes they go off their treats ( greens,chia or cooked quinoa,sweet potato, mashed irish potato,mine goes nuts for spaghetti).
Still.....i want to know why mine, flys at & around my head. is he angry at me?

Let your canary listen to canary songs on youtube it will mimic them and will sing itself
ilias laachir It depends on the type of canary . The best singing canary is an yellow malinoa canary and the colourful canaries are not good singers

I have “pet” cardinals. It’s a male and female mating pair that lives in the bushes by my house who I put out seeds for in a bird feeder. They’ve gotten really use to me and the male now and then will fly down and sit near me, but not be petted.
great video. I like the orange head canary . where does one get these travel cage? my bird is finishing up with his molting . I got him purchased from a breader & got breeder cage 22 in long if want has a divider I don't use that my bird after molt last 9/20 7 am started singing and sings all day every day all the year till gets hot and sunrise changes. I got him 8 months old and the cage from breeder $30 for canary & $20 for cage great deal. can u tell me were by the seed feeder?. I like it idea. so true feeder cup much seed gets wasted so I pour it out in plastic tray him to eat what wants. he likes apple wedges. and love carrot shavings. I give him variety of treat seeds and food seeds. I am waiting to see if he just starts singing again at 7 am Sept 20, like he did lat year? +Rocket11213 thank you! I got the travel cages at a bird expo, sometimes pet stores have them. The bird feeder can be found in the garden section of a store. Like walmart or feed stores.

my birthday is in ten days, I have been researching finches since December and I've made space on my dresser for a large cage and my parents will only get me animals if it's a special occasion and I can prove that I will care for the animal and love him/her. My mom is on board but my dad,not so much. I'm petsitting two canaries for a week and I hope that my dad will see that I'm ready

i have a small cage for my zebra finch but i let it out around the house and it flys. then when it is done it flies to its cage so i can put it away
I let my canary (male) out every day, he flies off a bit, perches on the stereo speaker, and back to his cage, doesn`t seem to care for flying aroung that much

Instead of thtowing out the food just go outside and blow out the empty seed shells and just fill in the rest but if you dont need to then money well saved.

I had almost the same orange canary sadly she died yesterday it was the worst day of my life 😢 I miss her so much😭 her name was kiki atleast I have another canary he's yellow like the one in the video and his name is pika like Pikachu I love him very much he's all I have😢he seems so lonely couse kiki was always with him, he's like lonely now:( I'm now planning on buying another canary for him so he won't be lonely😔

+FishOnTV finches and canaries are more of viewing birds, they aren't really pets you handle
FishOnTV You should look into Cockatiels, Green Cheeked Conures, or Parrotlets
I have a Canary that sings, but also paces even though I let him out to fly. Think I should get a finch for him (hand tame would be nice), Where can I get one Nashville that will be a good friend to my outgoing bird? Will he stop singing if I get another bird, he does if I put a mirror in the cage. Open to another Canary but was told they are better not caged together?

My wife and I have canaries and they recently had 3 babies. They are both super awesome parents and they both take turns feeding them. My question to you is: can we leave them in the cage together or do we have to separate them at a certain point?
I had two zebra finches, but one of them flew out onto the floor and then my cat came and he got scared so he flew out the window. So then we only had one female finch who was already sick and now she was sad. So we went to the pet store that we got her from but they didn't have anymore finches to keep her company so we gave her to the pet store where they could look after her better than we could and we ended up getting a canary and we named him Rio and he LOVES me!!! So I'm happy but it's our first time owning a canary, so I guess what I've been trying to say is I'd really appreciate some advice!!!! By the way, I'm sorry this is sooo looong!!! Anyway, it would be REALLY helpful if we could have some advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm caring for a baby house finch that's nest was attacked by a crow. This bird survived and is ok but the other baby birds
got killed. My neighbor rescued him and she works gave him to me when he was 12 days old.
This is day 33 and baby bird is doing well. At first I was feeding him every hour or two for 15 hours a day and keeping him warm and clean in a little box inside a small cage. I think he is about 33 days old today. A week ago I put him in a large budgie cage with
seeds and greens which he pecks at and eats a little of-but he still wants to be fed. So I still feed him 7-8 times day.
People on FB said I should have taken it to a bird rehabber. I know it is illegal to keep him but I am afraid he will not survive if I release him now. Can I buy a society finch from the pet store so this wild house finch can have a friend?
Another you tuber hold me that a canary is better companion for this wild hand raised house finch than a society finch.
What do you think? Yet another CZcamsr said canaries are solitary birds so I am confused.
I believe all birds should be able to fly, don't get birds if ur just gonna keep them in the cage 24/7. Let them out for some free time to fly around at least for a few hours a day. My budgies have their own room and their cage stays open 24/7 so they can fly around as they please.

Please Please make a budgie/parakeet training video. There is no great ones out there and Iv'e tried everything and my bird is still not hand tame.
I have 2 society finches living with 2 cockatiels in a 6ft x 6ft cage. No issues.

Is there any way canaries can be potty trained? I like the idea of letting a canary have a lot of free flying time out of their cage but will they poop all over everything? Or do they only poop in certain places or what?

Is it not recommended to keep a male song canary alone? No other canaries. I was thinking about doing that. I want a single bird. Will it sing if kept alone? Will he remain happy and healthy?

I have 2 couples of canaries and they do lay eggs, nevertheless when they hatch the little babies won't make it after 1 or 2 days. Do you have any tips?

You should try to give them an actual nest made out of straw or a wooden box. Also make sure to give them all the supplements and eggs more often.
How about giving egg food for the parents to feed in other words a proper diet

Hey, I have a male canary for a year now. I got him when he was still very young but he doesn't like leaving his cage. I personally don't like cages and only had them for when they wanted to sleep or eat. Is there a way to get your canary to trust and not be afraid? I've done anything I can. I've sat next him everyday so he gets use to me, never try to put my hand and but I do take him out so he can fly freely through the house. Instead he just goes back into the cage... He just loves eating lettuce and swinging all day

I’m looking into getting a pet canary soon, but am trying to decide on a breed/variety. I’m leaning towards a clear yellow Fife male, but wondered if you could do a video on the different varieties of canaries? Also, from what I have read, two male canaries cannot be kept together, and a male and female kept together will breed, of course. I’m not looking to breed, so I don’t see how I can keep more than one. Any advice there? Thanks!

Hi. I want to ask that many bird pet owners like you all say it is good and somewhat important to feed the birds with fresh vegetable and fruit. But aevery time I put thr vegetable or fruit piece in the cage, my parakeets and canary never touch it.
How can I courage them to eat it?
They also do touch the mineral brick I put in the cage which is suppose function like a treat and mineral source......but they just nevery touch it....

We got a canary yesterday and yesterday he was alright, eating and chirping, but today I haven’t seen him eat much and he’s not drinking. He sometimes picks at his foot and hits his peak on the bar he’s standing on. I’m not sure if this is ok or not.
Canaries are hard to raise for me I think it's more because I don't have as many years of experience as the professionals in breeding canaries

It's possible. But there is a lot that goes into making it successful. It would be reccomended for an experienced bird owner.
