About WGU
WGU is an online university which is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). WGU offers several different Bachelorâs and Masterâs degrees in the fields of IT, Business, Health, and Education.
WGU is unique in the sense that it doesnât have a traditional quarter or semester system, rather, the students can choose to start whenever they wish. Start dates are set at the first of the month-every month. Another unique property of WGU is that you pay for time instead of credits-that is, you pay for one term at a time (6 months), and you are allowed to complete as many courses as you want within that term, which is key to our speedy completion strategy-more on this later.
It should also be noted that traditional homework is not a requirement to pass classes or graduate at WGU. In order to pass a class at WGU, you must complete one of two things, depending on the class:
Complete the âObjective Assessmentâ, which is just a multiple choice exam, and/or
Complete the âPerformance Assessment, which is essentially an essay.
Some classes will require BOTH an exam and an essay to pass, but Iâve found the classes requiring both tend to be easier and/or less complicated to complete.
Going back to the Objective Assessment class-type, there are actually two types of Objective Assessments. The first type is an exam that was created by WGU in-house, and the second type is an exam that was created by a third-party. These third-party exams are given by well-known vendors such as CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+, etc), Cisco, Microsoft, ISC(2), etc. It should be noted that the third-party exams are much more difficult than the exams given by WGU-this is key to the strategy we will be discussing.
Note: Iâve actually created a video describing how to quickly pass these third-party exams, so check that out here:
How to Pass any Certification Exam
Now for the reason you came, The Speed Strategy.
Step 1: Choose Your Degree
The first step of this strategy is picking your degree. While this may seem obvious, there is some strategy involved in choosing which exact degree you enroll for when speed is your primary concern. Each area of study at WGU has several Bachelorâs and Masterâs degrees available. Some of these degrees require you to complete many more third-party exams than others, especially in the IT track.
Take the Bachelorâs in Cybersecurity for instance. Youâll be required to complete over 12 industry certifications in order to graduate. While these certifications are quite useful, due to the difficulty, this will stretch out the time required to graduate by quite a lot. In comparison, the Bachelorâs in IT Management does not actually require any third-party certificates.

Hello Josh,
Iâm from Nigeria, and it looks like you are from Nigeria too. I need help with how to find interest in any area in Tech. I donât really have a Bachelors.
Iâm currently in New York City. Please help me.
Does WGU accept people with a ged and no prior credits?
Hello Josh, im 47 years old and looking for a career change, im deciding between cyber security or cloud computing, can you please tell which would be the better choice if my end goal is to work remote in the It field?
I always wanted to get my degree so my mom could watch me "walk" and get my diploma. I was not able to graduate with my high school class because I took it too easy my senior year. I am 64 years old and my mom is 91. Your video has given me hope that I can still get my degree and make my mom proud! Thank you.
Super glad to hear it! Best of luck if you decide to pursue it :). I actually never walked for anything either, especially high school I actually dropped out when I was 15, hah! Thanks for watching :)
I never got my high school diploma, Iâm 39 and did the bachelors in a year! Go for it!
You can do it, go for it !
@@vitaminhead1465 how?đ©
is there a walk or they just mail it?
This inspired me to get a degree. as a member of an Asian family that not having a degree is a disgrace. this video is really helpful. Thank you! by the way, I'm getting a bachelor's not because of my family but it's for my own dream :)
ayyyy good for you and congrats! Did you decide which program yet?
In the same boat with you!! But I wasted so much money and time in schools near me...and considering majors that I was not into.
Then gave up...and comparison continued with neighbors kids, relatives, cousins...name it people I never met lol
But finally in wgu and bec of this guy and couple other youtubers inspired me to give it a try...and after transferring all those classes...now I only need 18 credits to graduate.
Not sure if I want to share it with family yet...I am thinking of once I get the job and maybe casually will say "I got the degree on IT management from wgu and now working on MBA there as well...not a big deal! And yes it's a legit school. "
Itâs crazy to hear different family expectations. I hope you get that degree!!! I want to start something online and try it out. It can only open up more doors for me as well as you.
And
Yes that is so true as Asian family! Count me there!
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this video you made a year ago. I watched it while I was pondering whether to get a Medical Coding degree, the school I was planning to go to didn't require a High School diploma (I graduated High School in Latin America and my HS diploma is not valid in USA). But, after watching your video I decided to research WGU and found out they had an Academy! And if you pass their 3 month course (a lot of people finish within a month tbh), you have guaranteed admission to WGU. So that's what I did! I'm on my way to getting my Business Administration Degree! And although I won't finish in 6 months, it'll definitely take less than a regular college, and that way I won't accumulate student debt. I only have to thank YOU for it. May God bless you in everything you do. đ€ THANK YOU!!
Btw, after my husband saw me going fast in WGU, he decided to enroll too! Previously he only had an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, now he's enrolled in WGU to be a programmer! đ
Everyone! Currently I am taking classes at WGU for business management. What my man Josh shows is a legit way to get done quick, and its doable! Each class for me has several exams which can be fully completed within 4-5 days, "If you are a slacker like me". I love WGU and it is the best college for versatility, low cost, and quick careers!
Sheeeesh, you said it. Good luck!
Are exams proctored?
Usually only final exams are proctored.
That's the exact degree I'm looking into doing at WGU, but I'm totally procrasting cuz I'm worried about the added stress. This has totally made me feel better. đđ€
Iâm taking the same program and start Oct 1. I have been all over CZcams watching videos about strategy.
I love this guy, making life easier for those who weren't fortunate enough to traditionally do 4 year degree
Aw, thanks so much. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you like the content!
I'm doing college this way on WGU, 4 years + 50,000 in student loan debt is not fortunate
@@joelgoldsworthy9728 so the video author is lying that we can finish in 6 months, why are you doing 4 years?
@@MariaJose-zv4dq the guy in the video isnât lying. WGU is a at your pace learning school. So itâs more or so his choice if he takes 4 years to complete his schooling.
@@MariaJose-zv4dqNo no, thatâs not what he said. He said doing 4 years and being so much in debt sucks. He separated what he said initially with the second statement, they donât go together.
Thanks Josh. Im about to finish up my AA in IT and i've been looking at WGU. The way that you describe the test taking is fairly similar to what im doing in my college right now. I'll be checking WGU out and hoping they accept a good chunk of my units.
loved this. straight to the point, no fluff. Thank you for this!!
No problem! Thank you for watching and commenting :)
Josh...you are an inspiration man. Thank you for giving me some confidence again.
You're too kind, and no problem! Good luck with the exams :)
I got my MBA there in 5 months. I got my BS in HC Mgmt in 2 years. Itâs super easy because once you finish the Bachelors you get your strategy down and you get the foundation. The masters just builds on your foundation. If youâre motivated you can breeze.
This is exactly, exactly my thoughts. the BS is way "harder" in the sense that you are kinda getting used to everything. Masters? gg lol. Congrats :)
Hello đ Have the degrees been helpful in finding employment in your field? Did they open any doors or help you come in at a higher salary? Hope these questions find you in a great mood. Please reply if you have time. Blessings!
Can I chat more with you on the process of WGU? I am thinking about doing this but I am nervous to start
Are the Master's just the addup course of the bachelors? cuz it has less classes than the Bachelors
What if you don't come from an IT or sicence background? Is it still achievable/ doable
I really think you for this video, Iâve been wanting to go back to school but due to everything Iâve been really debating and have so much I want to do. I really appreciate it. Good luck to međđŸ

This was very inspiring and encouraging to pursue a degree program. This is the 3rd video Iâve now watched from your channel and shared to others I am currently guiding in the I.T. space. Youâve convinced me! Iâll start with the IT management degree with out the 3rd parties and then Iâll go from there! đȘđŸ
Subbed. I'm in the Cloud track right now, 3rd semester. Thanks for the info!
This really is the school for me. A co worker told me about it and I just knew I needed to transfer. With a busy work schedule and a busy life, I needed to be able to schedule school around those things. While that might not work for everyone, it has worked for me and I still have the time and money to enjoy other things.
Ayyy glad to hear it! I agree on all fronts! I hope they release more programs in the future :)
I agree with that!
I just signed up for the MBA IT Management degree and my thought process was similar to yours. I chose this degree because it was the only one that didn't require certs as apart of the curriculum. Plus, I already have the ITIL and Security+ so I understand how challenging it is to pass certifications. Personally, I rather go to a bootcamp and get a cert and just do the course work for a degree. But thank you for sharing your experience. I'm registered to start WGU in January 2021.
Dope! Good luck with the degree. And I feel you, I don't wanna worry about rushing to finish certs during my school term đ

CREDITS TRANSFERRED AND COMPLETED:
I transferred 39 Credit Unities. I finished 81 Credit unities. I average 1.6 classes per week!
After watching your video I decided to pursue BSBA-Information Technology Management. I started it in March and I passed the final capstone today.
The course is 100% completed, while I was working two jobs, and having to help my wife with our two kids (1 and 3 years old).
I still have 8 weeks left, even though I took two weeks and a half off. One week I had a work-related trip, the second week, I decided to take a must-needed vacation.
Your personal experience plays an important role BUT this is not the main factor. On the other hand, your internal locus of control is. Once you start your term, you are the only variant standing between you and your degree.
Thanks so much for sharing! Massive congrats--that's totally awesome. I will pin this for a while. I think what you said is spot on about YOU being the variant--it's really nice to take control of your own timeline.

Hi mackenna, I want to get my BA In education as well. Did you need your associates to be able to enroll/take courses? Howâs it going so far?
Thank you for all the tips. I'll be starting my BS on Feb 1st and I would like to get it done in no more than a year. I'm transferring over 40 credits so I think it will be doable.
Absolutely less than a year. Just prioritize well, plan, and be strategic about the classes :). Which BS is it btw? I Feel like the compsci BS takes the longest.
Josh Madakor Iâll be doing BS Human Resources! Super exited about it.
You are the man! Subscribed!!
Thank you!!
i might try to get my cs bs from wgu now! thanks for the motivation! subscribed and liked
Thanks so much for liking and subbing! Check out my other BSCS videos, especially on dealing with Discrete Math 2 and calculus haha.
Your selling me on this. Im in the enrollment process now, transferring in my certs & credits from other schools.
Dope! Which program are you going with?
@@JoshMadakor im thinking about cloud or Cyber at the BS level.
â Quick announcement
â
Lots of people are asking me about how many credits I transferred into my bachelors. I transferred in 56 out of 121: i.imgur.com/k6smjPI.jpg
I ended up finishing in about 5.5 months, but I didn't realize how to "accelerate" until after about 3 months. I originally thought I brought in like 30 credits, but I realized it was more after digging up my transcript (see above). For the MS, unfortunately I couldn't transfer in any credits even though I had CISSP.
Also, If you're waiting to start your program, but you want to make your spreadsheet on which classes have objective assessments and which ones have performance assessments, you just have to use your ninja Googling skills to figure it out. For example, if you want to figure out the course code and exam type (OA vs PA) for the course "Secure Software Design", I'd do the following Google search:
"Secure Software Design" site:wgu.edu filetype:pdf
This will usually yield some kind of internal WGU documents describing the course, that usually disclose the course code as well as what is required to pass the course (OA vs PA, or both). I hope this helps!!
Hi, I'm a new subscriber and very interested in the online class. Can I please speak with you directly or privately?
@@nakeharharley7210 Sure! you can display my email address on my channel, or use any of the social media in the description links :)
Hi john, i'm new here as well đ
I want to start the CS degree but don't have math background at all.
How much math do i need to start the degree?
thank you so much for this, just what i needed after im done with my oscp im jumping into this. i want to have a bachelor on cybersecurity
Legit advice. I did my MBA 5 years ago in 10 months. From learning how the system works then, I'm going to be employing a similar strategy for the MS Learning Design. Starting on Dec 1st and hoping to complete in one term. Not sure how it will work as it is very project based, though I can say this is good advice, especially for assessment-heavy degree programs!
Thank mate this is more compatible with my ADHD brain I can stare at HEX and Binary packets all day long and ID protocols but discussion boards are my biggest nemesis.
Lol give me some of that HEX processing power. I'm just now getting into assembly language and everything is hex haha. Thanks for watching!
Your content is so valuable , also an well spend time . Well for me Iâm doing a BCS in SE and doing certs of cyber as well as you explained sir . My dream is to work in red hat in an organization. Keep up this good content loving them ..
Thanks so much, really appreciate it! Best of luck with your goals, it sounds like you're well on your way :>

So glad it was helpful, thanks for watching :)
This is amazing, thank you!
Beginning my first term June 1st, transfering over 23 CU. Goodluck to anyone also attending!!!!!
Congrats and Good luck!
Thank you! I really appreciate the tip!
No problems! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
Very glad I found your channel!
Thanks Josh! Much appreciated!
Hello! Thank you for everything! Quick question. I've been a sales manager for quite some time now and have great interpersonal, social and networking skills. What IT degree do you advise me to tackle to use my skills to succeed? I have no IT background but would love to join that community and the respect behind it!!! Thank you. Please help!!!
After your videos and posts, I finished WGU's MSCSIA in 32 days while working full-time and so sick I was nearly bedridden. (Don't worry, I'm feeling better!) Finishing that quickly shocked my employer and immediately began discussions about moving into management way earlier than I would have otherwise.
The #1 piece of advice I would give is: If someone has already gotten their CISSP, this is a VERY efficient value-add. Most of the material is covered by CISSP, and you'll sail through.
Huge congrats! That's remarkable! I'm sorry that you were sick, but I'm glad you're doing better now. Also congrats on the potential promotion. *REALLY* solid advice about having CISSP. I 100% agree with this.
Love your channel and content! Currently registered at WGU
Thanks so much! I appreciate you saying that and Iâm glad the content has been helpful! Best of luck with your program, I hope you enjoy it :)
Currently in this program! highly recommend WGU!
Thank you so much for this video Josh. Due to my personal circumstances this could actually be life changing. One question tho, If I take a course's final exam and fail, will the questions on my second attempt be different?
Hey, no problem! Really glad you like the content! As for the questions being the same, I dont _think_ they are all going to be the same. They probably all come from the same test bank and there is likely to be some I believe there is a large test bank where the questions come from, so some of them are bound to be different.
Fake Edit: Check out this reddit thread on the top. Very interesting: www.reddit.com/r/WGU/comments/fc1spb/are_the_tests_the_same_each_time/
I failed a math test at WGU and the second attempt was completely different questions. (Passed that one )
I got my bachelors in IT from WGU and I loved the experience. I was looking into a masters program and I was looking for the degrees with the quickest completion time ( with the least amount of certs). Do you know if the masters program you finished changed any of their material? Great videos + glad I subbed!
Hey, thanks for watching! I did the cyber masters. I know now that they accept the CISSP to satisfy some class(es), but other than that, I don't think it has changed any. The least troublesome one is probably the MBA or an y business one that lacks certs :p
Hello, Iâm glad to see you have took advantage of this opportunity, I just found this and Iâm so excited to begin!!
I have a question though.. have you tried adding your degree to a resume yet? How does employers look at this fast tracked degree?
Thanks and congrats again
Great Information. Thank You!
Glad it was helpful! :>
Thank you so much. Will be enrolling for my degree this april
Great!!! Best of luck with your program :)
Bro awesome stuff I'm even more excited to get my bachelor's and that Masters degree if you could get it in 12 days. I'm finally bored after 2 years of IT support and don't feel sys admin is for me I've learned so much and I'm grateful for that but I can't see myself like others I've seen just stuck in Tier 2 support stuff for years and years. I'm hungry to move into some tough stuff. Finally going back to school since WGUs prices are a god send and their learning format is perfect as I got a full time job can't afford to be having to sit through classes. Give me some study material and feedback and I'll go get whatever I need.
Haha, the 12 days is a bit on the extreme, a lot of stuff lined up really well for me, but it's possible to finish quick! Good for you with your desire to move up. Take advantage of that motivation haha. GL
