Finally they opened it there, reopened it for the FOURTH time in Australia, and now I've been watching it on flights. I've seen it at least 4 times. I'm in LOVE.
I'm so glad to hear "The Lighthouse" was every bit as amazing as the trailer I watched earlier led me to believe it would be. God, I can't wait for October.
Thank you so much for recommending The Lighthouse! I just got done watching it and, and I'm not sure what the hell I just saw, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely gonna be watching this one several more times.
Parasite recently got released in New Zealand and I watched it with a big crowd on opening night. People were laughing and gasping and applauding. I can’t remember the last time I saw such a genuinely crowd-pleasing movie that also managed to be challenging and not cliché. Highly recommend it.
I rewatched The VVitch with subtitles on a week or two ago, and I couldn’t believe how much easier to follow the plot was. It helps I remembered a lot, how could I forget most of it, but I definitely recommend watching with subtitles to help the old English go down easier. Sorry this comment isn’t totally related to the video but I wanted to share cuz it made me like the movie a lot more afterwards
I saw The Lighthouse in a small old theatre in Tempe this week, and I feel that it made the experience feel more authentic. This is one of the few times I’m in people’s faces about this movie. It seriously takes me back to watching old classics with my grandparents as a kid. The first thing I thought, was how much my grandfather would have loved this movie. The dialogue wasn’t that hard to follow, either. I had heard from a few sources that it took time getting used to, but I followed along fine....I guess bouncing all over the US has its benefits in understanding accents and dialects better... Seriously, I loved every second of the movie and I’m going to have to see it again soon.

I live in the town next to where The Lighthouse was filmed and I know a few people who worked on the set, I can give some testimony on the effort put into the set design. They built a complete replica of a local lighthouse, but larger, as the original one was too small for filming and it had a lot of tourist traffic. Yes, literally an entire lighthouse, what you see in the movie is a complete structure built for the purpose of the film. Some parts of the film (mostly indoor shots) were done in one of the hangars at the nearby Yarmouth Airport.
Which lighthouse? I know they constructed it on the rock where the Cape Forchu lighthouse is, but that looks completely different. Eggers was searching all over for a lighthouse to use & couldn't find one he wanted, but loved the location for Cape Forchu & built it there.

@@bakerdoze yeah i know but birdman review was like 4 years ago and three bildboards like maybe one year ago, like I just wanted to say its really rare from Adam to give a movie 10/10 especially in 2019.
I actually felt bad for Dafoe's character at that brief moment. The way he suddenly becomes sad as he tries to deny the possibility that Winslow doesn't doesn't like his cooking...even though they're both going insane, you can really feel how disappointed he is.
I've seen today "The Lighthouse" which I wanted to see "Parasite" so I decided to see this movie instead and I have to say....it was amazing. Such a creepy psychological insane film about two seaman been working at the lighthouse for days until one of them felt their diabolical problems and they hallucinated their overdose minds. I can describe how this movie can really meant; however, this is by far the best gorgeous looking black and white which was shot in square shot ratio, two performances were excellent including Dafoe have given his outstanding performance as a stereotypical sea captain (probably having him an Oscar), the editing is great, cinematography was nicely shot, great sound, fantastic music, and such a symbolic weird movie which I wanted to know what's going with these two including the ending can explained about how they manage of their mentally cases whether it felt weird or what? It's very comfortable movie for the most part and if anything, I want to watch again its beyond an amazing movie that I wanted to know more. Thanks Adam and of course IHE, Ralph, and Karsten have given two big thumbs up and I would rate it 5 over 5 so I would say an amazing original weird movie. Drink up me laddies.
Hi! Commenting as someone who just saw THE LIGHTOUSE without subtitles. For me, having to pay close attention to figure out and register what the two men were saying just added another layer to the experience. I don't exactly know how to put this but it felt much more real and in the moment. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, literally, or else I'd miss something. (Not that I wanted to, though. I'm with you-- it was my favorite of the year.) Yet having to pay extra mind to the dialogue didn't take away from noticing all the other masterful elements of the film, which is quite the achievement. Also, did you hear Robert Eggers is doing a remake of Nosferatu (set to be released in 2023, but that date has been flucuating)?
After so many reviews with a 1 to 4 ratings (which honestly deserved them) it's so exciting to see a 9 and a 10 in a single video, I'm excited to watch both of them!
Saw both and 100% agree. The Lighthouse did not have subtitles and honestly I'm glad I saw it that way, I wouldn't want anything taking my eyes off those expressive faces for half a second and it really helps you get into Pattinson's character's shoes when you're being absolutely overwhelmed by Dafoe's masterful monologues
I just watched The Lighthouse... and man that was fuckin' weird. But I liked it, great performances, super interesting visuals, well directed with some amazing shots, and a lot of conversation to be had.
I watched these two movies back to back and while they are fundamentally different they share many similarities. Especially how both directors put insane amount of work on the the physical movie set, as well as the endings of each movies.
Dude, Eggman is a really great director. The VVitch was so bizarre and heart felt, I feel like the people involved really believed in it and the acting was incredible, even the small children. Mikasa Ackerman it’s more likely the nudity that makes it rated 18 like there is a lot of full frontal nudity and there are scenes with very fucked up amounts of gore too so yeah that’s why
I imagine Adam with a big smile on his face nodding along thinking "Yeah, this is awesome."
Parasite has quickly become a top film of mine. I was desperate to see it in Australia when it's 3rd release was closing, but I wasn't able to catch it and I wasn't sure I'd be able to access it so easily in US cinemas.
"Parasite" is my best movie of the year by far ..
So very excited to watch "The Lighthouse" ! And I LOVED "The Witch"
What about Parasite?

God i really want to see the Lighthouse
i saw parasite in austraila mainly because i live there but also because i saw your rating and because off who made it and it was fantastic so thanks man
Anyone else here after The Lighthouse's trailer released?
When one of your top three most anticipated films still to come out gets a 10/10 by YMS is a level of hype I haven't felt in a while.
YMS just gave a movie a 10?!
I feel special to have even witnessed it.
Saw Parasite during it's opening week with my mother and I absolutely love it. Very keen to see The Lighthouse since I enjoyed The VVitch.
Bro, now I HAVE to see The Lighthouse. Let's hope it gets a fat release.
It wont.
At least in Europe
I love these little videos where you show us interesting films. I really appreciate that you make these
10/10 it finally happened
Matija 321 I think “Birdman” and “Three Billboards” got that score, too.
Baker Doze “Her” as well
Matija 321 Check his IMDB for the rest of them. He’s given out quite a bit of 10s
@@bakerdoze yeah i know but birdman review was like 4 years ago and three bildboards like maybe one year ago, like I just wanted to say its really rare from Adam to give a movie 10/10 especially in 2019.
"Ye like me lobster, don't ye?!"
The Lighthouse floored me. Brilliant movie.
I actually felt bad for Dafoe's character at that brief moment. The way he suddenly becomes sad as he tries to deny the possibility that Winslow doesn't doesn't like his cooking...even though they're both going insane, you can really feel how disappointed he is.
Adum was looking for copper
*but he found G O L D*
Just got out of LH.
Some guy walked out with visible disgust on his face 10 minutes before credits. 10/10
Just saw the lighthouse. Loved it.
Just saw it too, Really damn good movie
That Movie was such an insane mindfuck for me. Loved it so much.
Came back here after seeing the Lighthouse trailer. Honestly just glad to see it getting some buzz.
I'm so happy The Lighthouse is great, it's one of my most anticipated movies of the year
I've been waiting for you to review this one. So damn stoked to see The Lighthouse.
I just watched The Lighthouse... and man that was fuckin' weird. But I liked it, great performances, super interesting visuals, well directed with some amazing shots, and a lot of conversation to be had.
You have a very critical eye... so I get really excited when you praise movies this much. I want to see them now.
The lighthouse was the SHIT! the God damn fog horn creeps me out for no real reason. I love it
I watched these two movies back to back and while they are fundamentally different they share many similarities. Especially how both directors put insane amount of work on the the physical movie set, as well as the endings of each movies.
Parasite was amazing. Can't wait to see The Lighthouse.
Dude, Eggman is a really great director. The VVitch was so bizarre and heart felt, I feel like the people involved really believed in it and the acting was incredible, even the small children. I am excited for what this new film has to offer. Thanks for this review Adum, you're a furry but your points are great. Love u.
The Lighthouse was incredible. Might be my favorite movie
The world needs more hits from the bong
10/10 for _The Lighthouse_ from YMS? Wow. It really must be something else. Loved _The VVitch's_ visuals.
