  • Woodpeckers newest OneTIME® Tool the Ultimate Doweling Jig, significantly broadens the scope of dowel joinery possibilities, like center holes for face frames, offset holes for 1/8” reveals and Double hole offsets for robust T-joints and Miter joints. Furthermore, it can be used for non-doweling chores like drilling precisely spaced and aligned rows of shelf pin holes.
Woodpeckers Ultimate Doweling Jig is available at www.woodpeck.co... for pre-order starting Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Don’t miss out. Order deadline is Monday, August 29th, 2016. Made in U.S.A.!

Chip this was a OneTime Tool that like all of our OneTime tools are available to order for a window of time then the ordering stops and we produce what has been ordered. They are then retired and on occasion we rerun retired tools later. But we do not retire tools due to high or low orders. The doweling jig will probably run again due to being a popular tool. But thank you for reaching out.

The challenge with all Woodpecker tools is the price. They are prohibitive for most woodworkers. But I guess there are enough deep pockets out there to keep the company in business.

All the Woodpecker tools are NICE, I'd love to be able to buy anyone I see at the drop of a hat but Its just a lot of money to spend to DIY stuff for my own use only.
Now If i was doing a lot of production work I'd think I'd have a setup premade and fine tuned that works within .001 but hey this is wood were working with its a live material it moves and breaths swells and shrinks. Whats perfect this month changes 6 months later if in the wrong environment. And some woods move more then others.
One time tool and cheaper production tool's with near close to perfection accuracy. Like a B Line for us starving woodworkers.
If you're going to buy Woodpecker tools and want the most out of them I'd buy the set up tools first, setting up your saw router or other tool dead on will give you better results overall.
Tools like the Dowel press are icing on the cake, they are not necessary but add all that much more detail to a project.

Cool design with some neat added features like 1/32" increment adjustments (overkill for most woodworking projects) and dowel-guide cam spreading, along with shelf-pinning capability. But they completely missed the competitive pricing market with the "real" competition in existence with nearly identical capability which is JessEm's Paralign 08300 or newer 08350 which can perform equal dowel joinery, including setup for dowels in open large workpieces/panels, etc., which in this video they stated only their system was capable, that's incorrect.
High-priced woodworking tools do NOT mean they are better than lesser priced tools, like most I'm a firm believer that you're most used go-to tools should be of a higher quality and mine are. That said I wouldn't put a Woodpecker self-centering dowel jig (that you squeeze together by hand which is just a little silly) next to a Harbor Freight self-centerting dowel jig for $20 made in China. Bit off track but it is funny that the Harbor Freight dowel tool is identical to the renamed identical versions also made in China and sold for $80+ by Rockler, Woodcraft, etc. It's about doing your own due diligence with any of these woodworking tools.
Many woodworkers like Woodpeckers tools, but wish they were more cost competitive with comparable tools in the market.

We respect all of the tool manufactures out there and enjoy seeing what they bring to the market, so all woodworkers can decide what tool they want and have in their shops. With our Ultimate doweling jig we want to offer the woodworker multiple ways to use a tool for different projects. We enjoy hearing from our customer base and appreciate you taking the time in letting us know your thoughts on our product.

I might buy the Woodpecker ultimate dowel jig if Woodpecker released it again, but there are a couple of concerns I have with this design. One is the capacity is limited to only 2-3/8" thick stock. That's really quite limiting for such a highly expensive jig. The other concern is the cam plate seems to be free floating and doesn't lock in place. I could be mistaken on this. At best the cam plate may be tightened only by the guide bushings. Would the cam plate be tight enough to guarantee the plate doesn't shift during drilling? There is no question it's impeccably made with the best materials.

      Dowelmax is $250 US.
And another unrelated tool from Bridge City, the angle Pro Max is $450.00 for accurate vernier measurement of angles using a Chinese caliper measurement device using capacitive technology (Cost in China $12.00) and a robot milled aluminum frame (cost probably $20.00). And all of this is CNC robot built. But its 60% US built of good materials.
If I buy ABS plastic sheet from China I pay $3.00 a KG max. As little as $1.75 possibly. If I buy in the States I pay $6.50 a KG.
You need a wood shop or be a cabinet maker to justify these tools. Otherwise do the Matthias Wandel and make it yerself. Dowel jigs don't have to be 1000th accurate in build. You just need to register the work/holes and the sides of your material.
A wooden slider or threaded rod with a block with a dowel in it is all you need for a length between dowels spacer.
Clamp and shim spacers are all you need for reveal. A block and a side "shooting" board is all you need to space the holes.
Make the register/shooting side board stick out on either side of the block so the block has two sides A and B for your two joining boards and you don't even need to drill press the holes.
Want to join a leg to a flat wide board? Make the block so it bolts and removes form your side positioning/shooting board. Use it with the board on the leg, and without on the table top. Or just butt end the side board and use this jig for table tops, as it reverses and the positioning board will be flush when the jig is turned over to drill the mating table top.
Want to drill a row of holes? Two threaded rods thru the block and two jam nuts to position it. Measure the rods for calibration.. position might be critical. End the rods for edge spacing from your wide board's edge with blocks...

Woodpeckers' tools are expensive. They are too expensive if you consider them as the final product that you receive. I have to constantly convince myself that I'm paying for US workers to innovate, design, test and build tools that they feel are the best that they are capable of at the time. As Andrea points out, if you watch the design video that's the type of overhead I feel like I'm paying for. I don't like it, but if they wouldn't be building these interesting tools if we didn't.
Having said that ... I just paid over $300 for the MT Center Gauge, have yet to use it and along comes this one. I struggle with not knowing about upcoming tools. I can't afford them all so I really need to be able to know which ones to pass on and which to jump on. $600 is a A LOT of money for this. I can't wait for this offer to expire so I won't have to be racked with indecision or tempted to drop three pay periods of my tool budget on this one tool!

It seems that the marketing ploys used by Woodpecker indicate that the higher their items are priced, the better they are received as quality products. And maybe they are quality products, but most anything is quality at a certain level. Even I have a tendency to pick the most expensive item assuming "It must be better because it cost more." That is the impression I am getting, but at some point, this will backfire. My goodness, how can you justify $599 before tax and shipping on this doweling jig? I am amazed at this one tine offering price and have to say if I bought all these high priced tools, what am I working for? It surely isn't to collect one time making of tools for a collection. What do the marketing experts at Woodpecker think we carpenters are charging, or even making, for that matter? Granted, I am sure there are a few out there that have no problem with this price structure, but clearly Woodpecker and the like only have to sell a few to make money. I can hear them now saying "we only have to sell a hundred of these to make a profit, and we don't even have to produce them first. We can get those silly fools to buy them before we even make them so we don't overproduce." How nice. And then they spin it even further by claiming it will only be produced one time. How nice again for them. They even give us a deadline to buy. How nice a third time. My goodness how nice it is. I think that Woodpecker is using the marketing price/quality concepts of Festool, where the higher the price, then it has got to be better, if not the best. And I have to say that the track I use is much better than Festool's for what I need it for. Just try cutting narrow stock on a Festool track. Very hard to do. And yes, I tried out Festool tracks for this. And I am not just picking on Woodpecker, but then I see Lie Nielsen products selling planes at $400 to $500 also. Festool tools I forgot about years ago. I see it spreading due to this successful marketing ploy used by Festool and Woodpecker. Automatic price increases every year. One time making. Heavy all steel parts. It's all Bull crap for me!! I have been a carpenter for over 45 years, and have yet to be able to justify buying one item from any of the above manufacturers. As if these products will make me a better craftsman? I don't think so. We have to take a stand against these high prices and stop supporting these types of marketing strategies, as it is definitely getting completely out of hand for any working man. Just say NO!

Woodpecker tools are absolutely the best but their one time policy drives the price so high that the vast majority of woodworkers can not afford them. This tool sold for almost $700. That’s absolutely outrageous for its function no matter how well it performs. I have their router table that I was able to get when price wasn’t an option and it is infinitely adjustable. The Chinese factories often do. They make knockoffs of some Woodpecker designs (such as the router corner jigs) and sell them at a fraction of the Woodpecker cost. The problem I have with all Chinese knockoffs is they are like an optical illusion. The knockoffs look good on the screen, but once you receive them, you begin to realize the knockoffs have poor tolerances, poor fit and finish, and very poor functionality (because generally the knockoffs are not exact copies of the original).

Wow, I just found out why this is retired, and why it was outrageously priced. It was designed manufactured and sold ONLY in the month of August 2016. They've done the same thing over 75 times. They call it a One Time Tool because it is only sold for a few weeks. They took the best designed jig I've seen for dowels and turned it into a gimmick. It's a real shame, because their tools are impressive. The bigger shame is they have NOTHING that fills that space. That's a slap in the face and a middle finger. Now I hate this company, because instead of buying the best dowel jig I've ever seen, that was built in the good ol' USA, I'm off to find a lesser jig and support Chinese manufacturing.
Seriously, I can understand doing a short run on a custom tool, but when you have nothing else that fills that space, it's beyond insulting, even more than their price.

It is not expensive. Only those that do not need dowels would say such a thing. A few months ago I bought a hand plane for over $1000 because I needed it.

Their products are expensive but if you did this kind of work regularly, especially to make products you sell, then this would be worth every penny. I would have bought it if it was available again

Actually, it's going to be reissued in about 2 weeks. That's why the video is still up for the OneTIME Tools. They're periodically reissued.

Wow. Awesome. Top Notch for sure. But you'll never justify your price with a logical argument. I seriously hope you sell all you make and enjoy a wonderfully successful long term run in the market. I love capitalism, which has obviously decided the market price for your immaculately well thought out and executed precision instruments is fair, else you wouldn't sell any. No, I think you have found the niche in the woodworking world that Yeti and Costa Del Mar and a host of other Brand Conscious manufacturers have been exploiting for awhile now. The affluent piddler, in some cases a professional, but more often I'll bet it's a well heeled enthusiast who can afford to throw irrational money at the hobby they love. A tradesman would likely be too practical to spend WoodPecker dollars to solve a Kreg problem. Not to say that professionals don't esteem your tools, obviously they are superlative and well worth a premium but super premium.....???? Well...... What do I know? I'm just a toolhead geek. I think you have beautiful works of art that function as tools. I can appreciate that. You inspire me. Now, could you possibly point me towards someone in your market that makes quality tools at blue collar prices?

Over $600. You have to be F kidding me. I will no even consider this scammers in future tools purchases.

I do not own any of woodpeckers one time tools. They are always extremely over priced. Like the $650 doweling jig in this video. Woodpecker makes great precision tools. I have purchased a few tools from them over the years, but I have always limited my purchased to what I need that I can not get elsewhere. If would have much more of their stuff if they were not so overpriced. I must admit even though I like the tools they make. I would not be sad to see them go out of business, because they are raping customers with their prices.

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 Před 5 lety

      How is it overpriced?
They make tools at the cheapest possible price. That tool is great for those that want to make dowels their main woodworking joints.
You could make tables cabinets or anything with that dowel joint or even doors.

@@bighands69 There are many other dowel jigs on the market. Some are quite simple and some are very nice and versitile. One that comes to mind would be the DowelMax. Those are CNC cut aluminum dowling jigs like this yet they are less than half the price. They are still expensive but within reason. There is the Jessem down jig that is still a very nice jig and comes in even cheaper than the DowelMax. CNC machines have been around been around since the 60's. Yes they are still expensive to buy and run, but if your company cant justify the cost maybe you should be looking at other methods of manufacturing your product or outsource it to another company.
I think many people would agree that though Woodpecker produces nice tools. Their prices are way to expensive. Like one user said the price of this jig is insulting and he/she is right. I am not someone thats always looking for the cheapest thing. I dont care if a product is 50 bucks or 5000 as long as the cost is justified and I will get my money worth.
