Glad to see you are doing OK Mr. Roadking. I put a VFD on my lathe. I used a 1 HP 3 PH motor. The VFD changes 230v single to 230v 3 phase. works great and give me FWD and REV. Smitty from NS.
Man's got friends he has it all. Awesome the guys don't leave you hanging while your down roadking, can't wait to see the new and improved lathe in action
Man am I glad to see you did this, every time I saw you reach over that chuck to turn off the lathe I could just see your sleeve getting caught in the chuck and ripping your arm off! Good job.
It's good to see you are still doing well. It looked like about the only thing that switch wouldn't reverse is a flux capacitor from all those instruction options L.O.L. I'm glad you did that switch I remember commenting on it when I first started watching you guys. Now you got the shoulder fixed it would be a tragedy for you or anybody else to have an accident with the lathe !. . Thanks for finding interesting things to film for us to watch and keep everybody entertained while you are recovering . Take care guys see you for the next quick little project thats on the 10 year to do list.
Hurray, now I don't need to cringe when I see you reach over a spinning chuck. I saw a guy get his sleeve caught on a lathe dog one time years ago. Fortunately he was running it in back gear knurling so he had a fraction of a second longer before it would have ripped his arm off. He survived with only a sore shoulder. You will love the reversing switch.
Nice to see everybody back in the shop! Hope your shoulder is healing up well and I hope Mike is enjoying his new place, except for the moving/unpacking part which kinda sucks. You'll love the new switch on the lathe and wonder how you got along without it as well as being safer. Good work buddy!!
You know that I'm loving all of the attention the Atlas is getting. I always cringed a little bit when you'd reach for the old power switch - the new one is awesome. I see Mike isn't wearing his brand new wedding ring - I'm sure he wants to make sure it doesn't get jacked up :)
My threaded chuck on my old hendey lathe would loosen right off the spindle in reverse. I added a set screw and it ruined the spindle over time. I was young and I learned the hard way. This happened way before CZcams was a thing.
You can use a four way light switch to do the same thing but you have to make sure it is a click switch and not a silent switch. You simply bring the two wires out to the switch and bring the other side back. The four way switch does the same operation as the Furnas switch but the motor has to come to a complete stop before reversing the direction. I have used it on a one horsepower motor before and it worked fine. I don't know how long one would last unless you waited for the motor to come to a full stop but it worked well and lasted a long time when you do. The Furnas switch would be much better but also much more expensive.
I dunno Roadking, I think I might miss the excitement of not knowing if you finally get your sleeve caught. :>) Seriously, I think you'll appreciate being able to run it forward and not forward, as Mike says. Speaking of Mike, I still laugh when I remember asking you what two things he didn't know how to do and you said, "Sing and Dance." Thanks Bud, get better soon.
Yeah, they do tend to pop out but only if you're feeding out. Haven't had it happen on me (and to be understood, on my mini lathe, i doubt that could happen on the big ones) when feeding in, yet.
@@805ROADKING maybe put a drop or two of blue thread locker on the chuck threads to hold it but not too much incase you want to remove it later on. Just a thought.
I've been wondering how long is was going to take before you got to that. as others have said, that threaded chuck wont we happy in reverse. keep up the good work and bring back the over head valve motor!!!
Nice job on the reverse switch! Good thing you've got Mike around to figure that stuff out. My Dad was really sharp on that sort of thing, unfortunately I never seemed to pick it up. How much longer for the arm to heal? I hope not to long.
What a relief! All of us Tubes don’t have to wince in fear anymore when you turn the lathe on!
We can all sleep alot better now!!☺
Good to have Mike as your right hand man.
He is the man.
Yeah Buddy!! Besides being extremely talented, he's a great Friend!!☺
You are running up to speed now Buddy. That Mike is a sharp cookie and a good friend.
Yeah Buddy!! I'd be lost without Mike, especially now in my golden years and all broken up!!☺

Thanks Smitty!!
I got one on my old lathe. I love that switch.hope you shoulder gets better, now mike can control the directions with his knee
Man's got friends he has it all. Awesome the guys don't leave you hanging while your down roadking, can't wait to see the new and improved lathe in action
Yeah Buddy!! They don't come any better than Mike and Lil' Dirtbike!!☺
Man am I glad to see you did this, every time I saw you reach over that chuck to turn off the lathe I could just see your sleeve getting caught in the chuck and ripping your arm off! Good job.
Don’t get rid of Mike. Good job guys.

Nice work. You guys have come a long way over the years.
Thanks Bud!! We're not done yet!!☺

Yeah we don't need any more shoulder problems eh!!☺

Thanks Crusher!!
Yay! No more reaching over the lathe! Reverse to boot!
Yeah Buddy!! ☺

He was wearing his ring, he took it off so he wouldn't have to read all the comments!!☺
Happiness is an improved machine. Nice work.
Yeah Buddy!! ☺

We shouldn't have a problem, my lathe ain't powerful enough!! The belt would slip or the motor would stop first!!☺
good job Guys , That might come in handy when winding coils . ENJOYED !! Get well King ..
Thanks Shawn!! The possibilities are endless!!☺
Glad you have that switch moved and sorted, can' rush important things ya know :)
Yeah Buddy!! ☺
All Greek to me too, thank goodness you have Mike there!
Yeah Buddy!! ☺
Wishing you a speedy recovery roadking!
Thanks alot Bob!!☺
That will be handy...good work Mike!
Yeah Buddy!! ☺

I have that same switch on my lathe. Works quite well.
Hey Beek!! Good to hear from ya Bud!!
Youse guys are some supa dupa dudes, everything you do is perfection
Thanks Capt!!

Thanks Aaron!! If Mike put his mind to it, he could probably be the next Gene Kelly!!☺
Looks good buddy.
Thanks PJ!!
RK if you're done with that job, could you send Mike over here lol
That switch will come in handy 👍
That switch is a beauty. Been collecting Bakelite parts, so i should know :)
Yeah Buddy!! ☺
Reverse is nice 👍 Great video
Thanks Joe!!☺
Gotta be careful using reverse for much heavy stuff with that threaded spindle.
Yeah, they do tend to pop out but only if you're feeding out. Haven't had it happen on me (and to be understood, on my mini lathe, i doubt that could happen on the big ones) when feeding in, yet.
Thanks for the heads up!! I didn't even think of that!!☺
@@805ROADKING maybe put a drop or two of blue thread locker on the chuck threads to hold it but not too much incase you want to remove it later on. Just a thought.
I don't know how much threading you do, but you will look at it in a different way with power reverse. By the way that lathe has a nice set of legs...
I've been wondering how long is was going to take before you got to that. as others have said, that threaded chuck wont we happy in reverse. keep up the good work and bring back the over head valve motor!!!
Thanks Bud!! We'll get back to the OHV as soon as we get use of my arm again!!
We use 110 volts over here UK.
You are not allowed 240 volt "on site " hand tools.
Man wish I could have Mike come over and help me once in awhile 👍
The Dude is worth his weight in gold!!☺
Now they will be commenting on you climbing under the table to turn it off. 😂👍
Lol!! How true, at least they're commenting eh!!☺
Man all you need now is a speed control and you can use your taps and dies and do some threading on the lathe
Yeah Buddy!! We'll have to look into that!!☺
I’d rather switch, than fight. Good job.
Thanks Jim!! That probably went over the heads of 3000 people but wasn't lost on me!!☺
Yeah I was going to say what Mike said.
Oh yeah, there's also a thermal overload.
And I've been calling that thing a reset button my whole life!! Go figure eh!!☺
Yeah buddy,,,, nice add on to the lathe.
Thanks Bud!!
Watch your sleeves! :) Had to say it one more time!
We're gonna have to come up with some new schtick eh!!☺
Nice job on the reverse switch! Good thing you've got Mike around to figure that stuff out. My Dad was really sharp on that sort of thing, unfortunately I never seemed to pick it up. How much longer for the arm to heal? I hope not to long.
Thanks Scott!! They say to get back to 85%-100% it could take 10-12 Months!!☺
So many wires, I get confused just trying to wire up a standard british light fitting with it's 9 terminals... :P
That's why that thing sat on the shelf for years!!
Good call even if you don't use reverse RK.
We can all sleep alot better now eh!! Avagooday Mate!!☺
Hows the shoulder doing ?
Not overdoing it I hope, not that I think I can trust your answer ;) Should probably ask Mrs Roadking. Lol
Thanks Neil!! Believe me, we're taking it easy!! We don't want to go through that again!!☺
FINALLY,..finally I can stop cringing every time you reach for the switch over a spinning chuck!
Thanks to Mike and ROADKING too ( of course )!
We can all sleep alot better now eh!!☺
He'll yea brother
Mikey how to do old GE motor
Well this is a turning point LOL just thought about that. But now the switch is under.
Turning point!! Lol!! You wacky Canucks, you should be on Stage....I think there's one leaving in 10 minutes!!☺
@@805ROADKING You got me with that one sir. I hope the shoulder is healing.
Are you planning on being at cool springs this spring?😁
Not the Spring Show Ben!! We'll be there in June!!☺
OSHA is proud. 🤣🤣
The hell with OSHA, I'm worried about the Safety Sallys!!☺
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔👍👍👍👍👍👍
