  • Hello everyone, In this video, you will learn the proper technique on how to plant and grow sugar apple also known as sweetsop, sitaphal, mang cau, anon, or chirimoya.
    First, you want to create a suitable soil mixture. I recommend using Peatmoss, Perlite, and your native soil to achieve this.
    Amazon Links For Perlite & Peatmoss
    Peatmoss (Helps with water retention & Plant roots): amzn.to/3f75aq0
    Perlite (Helps with soil compaction & Drainage)
    amzn.to/38O8SUx
    I use a mixture of 40% Peatmoss, 40% Perlite, and 20% Native soil in my sugar apple pot mixtures.
    Amazon Link For 36 Cell Tray Seedling Trays (Comes with 1440 Cells)
    amzn.to/33OQurO
    Make sure to plant your sugar apple seeds with the circle portion of the seed facing up towards the sky.

    I just ate a sugar apple for the first time here in trinidad and tobago and I loved it. My wife and I will try to get some seeds to germinate before we return to the states. Hopefully when we return next year we'll have a small tree.

    Excellent explanation. I am a transplant to Central Florida. I just got a handful of Sugar Apple seeds as our first step into fruit trees. I know, not a strong choice to start with but life is like a box of chocolates. That’s before your time but it is still relevant. I am surprised at the color of the native soil. Subscribed, La granja de Río Hondo.

      That isn't true native soil. He built this soil up or someone before him did. You can do the same thing in Central Florida.

    so let me get this straight, if i take a seed out from one i got from the store and planted it will grow and bear fruit or they need to cross pollinate ? can they grow in southern ontario? and do they need large land like pawpaws?

    • @gardenflorida
      @gardenflorida  Před rokem +1

      You can grow one from a seed without another tree around for cross pollination. You can use the pollen from the same tree and flower to pollinate another sugar apple flower on the same plant.

      @@gardenflorida awesome ok but if i only grow one tree from one seed it should self pollinate and give me some fruit? because sugar apples was a childhood memory fruit for me from back home where we had bigger ones than usual it had lovely white custard like flesh with black seeds, the question is can i actually grow one in say a large pot in my apartment on on my balcony here in toronto where i live and it will be good enough to bear fruit??
