Hey All! 📸 Today, let's talk about a fundamental tool in mainland china wing chun. This isn't just any other piece of equipment; it's a tool for solo practice working on your hand skills (sao fat), linking of techniques, and sensitivity . 🥋👊

Thanks for your kind words Tyler. Its a great training tool, and its sad alot of wing chun people dismiss it as a fad. Imho The jook wan huen and luk wan (iron or wood roller) are integral to building real world skills. Best wishes from ireland.

I've had a solid steel version of this large ring for about 30 years now (bought from Shaolin Way, a shop in London's China town).
I use it for the same sort of power generation techniques and for arm conditioning.
As with the small 'single arm' rings. Over time, you can add more rings (for strength exercises).
Sadly I can't find these larger (solid steel) rings in any shops nowadays (even online).
You have to go to a specialist metal merchant to get something similar.
    peace.

Yep, Shaolin Way was a great shop, called in there a few times visiting london and chatted with the owner yap leong

Hard to find a decent set of shaolin steel ring weights without breaking the bank these days as well

Im not a big fan of this ring. You can easily loose forward pressure which is a main principle in wing chun. To keep the ring in place you apply forces to the sides and the ring doesn't simulate tje force coming to you. But if it works for you, Im happy for you 😂

I think one thing HK wc lost compared to the mainland wc is the sei ging, tan tou fou cham (吞吐浮沉; swallow-spit-float-sink). The bigger ring actually helps isolate the delts, lats, and core muscles quite alot for the delivery of force.

@cortocombateeskrima1799 you are right about that. My opinion is the Ip Man was not motivated to teach but forced by poverty. I think he knew way more than he taught to his students... but it's history. The big ring might be actually good as you mentioned. If someone trains a lot by himself it can do the job. Still not a big fan of it 😂

Great video here. The ring is a wonderful training tool. It is really applicable to far more than wing chun too. Just a great tool to help in most any gung fu system I know.

@@cortocombateeskrima1799 Yes I totally agree and would be happy to see bagua stuff with it. There are very few videos (that I know of) on using it with bagua. Keep up the great videos!

Tell me... whe do you work in circles when the system is made for straight lines?
Why do you use your hands, when the system is made for elbows?

    • @cortocombateeskrima1799
      @cortocombateeskrima1799  Před 2 měsíci

Not all of wing chun is straight lines. Mainland wing chun has alot of circles and double hand moves.

@@macewindu1515 ill do a video on it in the near future, but in nutshell, circle straight, soft hard, ying yang is the the essence of martial tactics.
Wing chun uses elbows for striking, check some of my other videos.
I have chosen not to show some the elbow strikes with the use of the jook wan. The setups with the ring are a bit more complex.
This video was a basic introduction video. Thanks for watching

Thats fine, i know i can use it. Also, its usually considered poor etiquette to put some ones skills down, without even having met them. Good luck on your journey.
