I've now watched the original version with the audio trouble and this version. I am officially a Dice Tower fanatic haha. Love this channel! I literally watch every video that comes out and Tom Vasel is the man. You are one of the best reviewers of anything ever. I enjoy how you are not rehearsed and authentically talk on the fly like you are having a conversation with us about the game. The comedy you sprinkle in your reviews keeps them interesting and funny. Keep it up!
Really appreciate you addressing the price!
When a game gets expensive enough or cheap enough, it should absolutely be a talking point in the review.
It can occasionally feel like reviewers forget this since they are sent the games for free, so frequently.
Minor point: I think the meaning of the word "depute" is being misunderstand here. It's similar to the word "deputize". You're not "firing" employees when you depute them. They are essentially paying you to release and vouch for them with the guild so they can work for themselves.
Just bought my copy! Im really exited to try it out 🤩
Agree with about everything here, really neat game play, beautifully produced, really difficult to figure out insert (im not sure why companies dont include an illustration of how the components are supposed to fit in inserts), and tough to recommend for the price when you can get 2-3 games in the same weight that do similar things. Unfortunate that theres not a more affordable option for this game
I was able to pick up the previous edition of the game for $50. Much easier to justify buying at that price.
I believe the metal coins are NOT included, they are an add-on.
That is true. The deluxe game only was $110, with the new expansion it jumped up to $130, and the coins were another $20. Then add the shipping on top, and it came to around $175 for everything!
Stupid extravagant, ornate and deluxe are the perfect fit for Rococo. I’m buying it for that art history joke.
Tom, thank you for mentioning the price aspect of the game because nobody really talks about it. I had the original printing of the game and I completely agree that Rococo is not the game that needed deluxe components and such a high price.
@Dr. D not really.
@@johchadow Entirely subjective - and I agree with you.
I actually think the previous printing is much more beautiful. The art is better and the colors are much warmer. This new edition looks so sterile. The yarn and lace tokens are cool though. Picked up the original for $50 instead of this version and I am happy with it.
I would rather pay a deluxe price for this game vs the many okay games that have been deluxified, Like The Castle of Mad King Ludwig collectors edition.
I'd rather have the Castles of Mad King Ludwig. It's one of my favorite games.
@Dr. D The Ludwig plays the same, but it comes with all the expansions, most of which I don't have. So for me it's worth it.
@@TheMr02drop Same for Rococo Deluxe, all released material comes included plus a new expansion in the box. Were one to buy these components separately at retail (if a non-deluxe reprint happened) the total price will be the same.
Too expensive for this kind of game. I am satisfied with the okd version I purchased for 20$
I’m there with you. Great game though.
Trust me it’s worth every penny
I would get the old version, but it's already over $150!
Has anybody done an overview or a review for the Yedo deluxe edition? I'm curious if anything in the box is new to that Edition between all the modules and card combinations.

The metal coins , the expansion and also the small statue are add ons so the price is around 200 bucks maybe more if you include shipping. I don't know if Rococo is good game (probably it is) but I am certain it's not worth that much. For the same price you can buy, Scythe, Terraforming Mars, 7 wonders duel and space base.
Audios kind of rough during the overview.
I nearly pre-ordered this one, but it was soooo expensive, couldn't justify it.
The original one is over $150!
Just got my copy today! Hopefully it lives up to the price tag lol
It doesn't, but its still a great game!
@Dr. D I bought it.
It certainly does. It’s a very satisfying game 🙂 the art and components pull you in and the game delivers every time!
I’ll say this, I got Etherfields for $250, and it’s not nearly the game of what This version of Rococo is.
Got my copy of Rococo Deluxe used (like new condition) today for only $50. Half the fun of board game collecting is searching for high quality and rare games lightly played by people who just don’t want to learn them or don’t like theme -at a reasonable price.
I've played the old version of Rococo a couple times, and I really really liked it. The one thing that I felt was so off, was the fact that all the characters on the cards were men. I'm pretty sure that is not historically accurate, yet there we were. All-male seamstress teams. It was such an odd choice. So I'm very glad they fixed that in the new edition. However, the price point is obscene. I truly hope they bring out a regular second edition with the same new artwork.
Yeah...I sadly passed on this one due to the price.
Same. Price is too high. Not like there aren't other good games out.
Same here...
Wish it wasn't so expensive!
Rococo is a good game, but when I saw this on kickstarter and the price, I literally laughed out loud! It's awesome, and so hilarious!
Shame that the price puts this way beyond affordable for the average family gamer. I can totally see my family playing this, but not when we could buy 3 games for the same price.
Thanks for your comments on the price Tom - I totally agree.
Phenomenal game! get it! it's worth it. The jewellery expansions and all the other "mini" dress expansions add more fun! it's Excellent!
Im glad I went all-in on this. I realize the price point is going to exclude many people....but for those that want to splurge, this really hits all the spots. Just look at many of the most popular KS over the past couple years, and look at what people are willing to spend (Kingdom Death immedietly comes to mind). I for one will always pick a deluxe or allin pledge for any game....providing its available. I wish more often than not, there was that option.
You're comparing Rococo to KDM?
*raises eyebrow*
By the time you bought the original (ab 50) and it’s expansion (ab 20) and the promos (let’s say 10), you aren’t paying much more for this incredible treatment.
Agreed, reviewers are downplaying that it comes with all promotional mini expansions and the main expansion plus a new expansion, which if bought at retail really it would all come to this same price. This is just a 'big box' that includes all content.
Not to mention second-hand market Rococo was $100cad if you saw one in the wild.
@@aonline_abridged Sure, but if I didn't already have the original, and its expansion material, after this was released, I'd still go original. Love, love, love Michael Menzel.
Gameplay looks very interesting, but I am priced out of this release, sadly.
Those metal coins DO NOT come with the deluxe edition.
Tom's mic sounds like its far from him
What??
Are you the kind of person who would buy a Mercedes S class when an E class would serve you perfectly well? If so this deluxified version is for you. Of course your average gamer would not ever buy a Benz at all. For the price of this game you can certainly get 2 other, very good games. Ultimately, what ever floats your boat.
"Are you the kind of person who would buy a Merce ..." and I'm out.
Wondering what kind of gamer I am, since I wouldn’t hesitate to by a Benz. The 2021 E-Class wagon looks sharp.
Did he forget he has already reviewed Rococo? It was a kennerspiel nominee. And what a year that was, Rococo and Concordia were nominated and Istanbul won. Shows how overrated and unreliable awards are. But it was interesting to see how he values different aspects since 2014, after having played thousands of games in the meantime. And I agree that the new production is a bit over the top. I'm just glad I got it originally for 40 dollars. Feels like I got away with something. And I added in my own thimble.
what a hat!
I think the price aspect in this case is kinda gross, to be honest. This publisher seems to have a habit of pricing most gamers out of their products, which is a shame, but it's something we're all expecting when something of theirs comes out, and there's plenty of less pricey alternatives.
That said, this is a reprint of an oop game that used to be "normally" priced, so they basically just decided to take an existing game and make it available only to a certain segment.
That seems unnecessary, to be honest. And I hope it's not a growing trend in this hobby.
Rococo is a great game in my opinion but this version left me a bit sad :p
It's gorgeous and I'm the gamer who would pay this amount if I wanted to .... BUT .... this game is out of print so I really dislike that this is the only version you can get.
It's a shame that this game is now not an option for many people while the $40 version was perfectly fine.
You can get my first edition for 35 plus shipping if you like.
@@JefferyHunt I'll take you up on that if Inez doesn't.
@@johchadow You can take him up on that ;) , when this version of Rococo started shipping I sent out a post looking for the previous version and I got a copy ;)
Such regret, 1/3 what I paid for Bloodborne, but so much more refined...
I don't think this game really needed a delux version, since the components' quality was already great. I actually prefer the original version. This one feels too busy and the color palette is just a bit dull compared to the vivid colors of the original.
If they ever reprint the first edition I'll buy it day one. I've wanted Rococo for a while and was really disappointed when I saw this edition. The original art is much more attractive and I am getting frustrated with these "deluxe" cash grabs/space hogs.
P
When it comes to dress games, I prefer Pret-a-Porter.
p.s. not a fan of this particular hat >_
The original printing of this game is way more beautiful than this deluxe one. This art looks like story board drawings. And the colors are so bland and flat. They couldn't even shade the blue sky in the windows? Really? Other than the resource tokens and coins, this is a downgrade. The original looked so much warmer than this one.
