I do have a question about sanding speed, I sand at about 400 rpm and when I sand to get tear out removed on my cherry 6” salad bowl it heats up and causes cracking and then I use CA glue , sand signs of glue off and more cracks are made do to the heat of sanding. I need help. If I don’t sand for long time , the tearout remains. I enjoy your sessions Steve, and thank you!!!
If you are getting thermal cracking due to sanding it can be caused but pressing to hard on the abrasive, running the lathe to fast. Try using a lower grit to remove tear out first or better still do a final gentle cut with a freshly sharpened gouge to remove tear out first. Hope this helps
