- Thanks to some quick-thinking from Darlene & Elliot's hackerman skills, the Aldersons successfully hack out the bank accounts of the richest people in the world.
From Season 4 Episode 9 "409 Conflict" In Elliot's mind, Mr. Robot argues with Magda and Young Elliot about revealing everything even though Elliot hasn't woken up yet, saying Mr. Robot can show him what Elliot has done and Darlene might be able to awaken him. Mr. Robot and Darlene prepare to hack the Deus Group; Price gives them information on Whiterose's machine so they can destroy it for Angela. Zhang, suspicious that Price and Elliot are planning something, secretly moves the Deus Group meeting location and meets Price alone at the original location, although Zhang is alarmed when Tyrell is absent. Discovering the meeting's new location, Mr. Robot sends Darlene there while he stays to get Zhang's information. Mr. Robot calls Zhang on Price's phone. Zhang says that Angela can be brought back, causing Elliot to reemerge, but he turns down the offer. Darlene releases an fsociety video publicly exposing the Deus Group and their location, taking their data when they call their drivers to pick them up. Elliot hacks a nearby cellphone tower for Zhang's data and the Deus Group is robbed. Price mocks Zhang, saying all this occurred because of Angela living on in her loved ones. Zhang shoots Price, glimpsing Elliot as he leaves. The FBI arrives at Whiterose's residence and gunfire is heard outside her room as she puts on her makeup.

Had she used multithreading instead of hitting those accounts one at a time, she wouldn't have had to wait so damn long.
they had to create suspense somehow for a bigger and better payoff otherwise it would’ve been too easy and unsatisfying
Was thinking the same lol, quite easy to do though. But the suspense is really important for the show
Except Python doesn't truly support Multithreading...you can do Asynchronous but not Multithreading. Even if you have the multithreading libraries, the GIL won't let you run things concurrently.
@@thiagocouto7792 Yeah you can use multi processing tho - which is still quite possible. It would be some sort of ARM Cortex A series processor and she was access to shell.
@@thiagocouto7792 GIL doesn't matter as much when you're IO bound, like what's happening here. The python script is starting a subprocess to run a command and retrieve some output.

I LOVED this scene! This was the best hack in all the seasons, nobody would suspect about a different cell tower.

This was a great hack indeed but in my opinion the best hacking scene was the episode without any dialogue where Elliot and Darlene break into the building

I loved it when Mr. Robot said "why do we have to cut these things so goddamn close?". An excellent throwback to when Elliot tried to save the E-Corp building in season 3.

This hack wouldn't work in real life as it requires 100% of the people in that room to click on a fishing link sent in a text message within the same time period. That shite does not happen in this life
@@henderyjem6881 There is no need for any interaction from the Deus group members, Darlene had already had a fake cell tower so she just needed to intercept the MFA token and then the transfer would go on.

One of the best episodes of all time for any TV show. Mr. Robot is a underrated show. Not enough appericiation for it even though if we even see the cinematography of the show it is top notch.

I remember watching this for the first time and understanding almost nothing of what she was typing. Since then, I learned some Python and now I understand a lot of that code.
But there she is typing on the street with people bumping her and she hasn't mistyped once....

As someone in cyber security and studying it intensely I can say that this scene actually looks real the commands he types into the terminal are real commands.

Only difference is all the packets in pcap will be encrypted so they need they need SSL private key key to decrypt it pretty much. Most the communication you will see TCP with wireshark will always be like that.
@@ashleybishton742 This is GSM (mobile protocol) not TCP. GSM uses a weaker encryption compared to SSL.

The fact i used to mess with bt3, bt4 r1/r2 and then finally seeing Kali being born all this code by far this show is spot on... 😅 It's truly amazing masterpiece enjoyable and yet satisfying to watch. Hope they extend it and keep it going 👌

They are doing some kind of sql injection attack! SQL is the language that you use to talk to a database and retrieve information. There are ways you can coax it into doing things that aren't supposed to happen such as logging into an account while only providing the username and without the password. CORRECTED. THIS WAS NOT SQL INJECTION. Sorry people , I literally saw some sql code and was like boom sql injection lol. Yes I need to use my brain more sorry guys.

I liked the hacking part but not the actual finance. These billionaires don’t have their wealth in cash, sitting in bank accounts to depreciate with inflation. Their wealth is in assets. Stocks, properties and art. Something shielded from income tax and appreciating over time.

I think after they're revealed to being apart of the deus group maybe they couldn't access those illiquid funds as easy but you're totally right, it'd be nice if there was some scene where Elliot or Darlene got all these guys evicted lmao but that would ruin the awesome flow and packng :/
Yeah, that why you can't do that in real world. And even they have a lot of money in bank account, they must have like at least 4-5 different banks, with different passwords. And banks usually cannot transfer that much money in a single transaction and just through 2fa.
I swear if Vol 8 is released when yall put up the Zhang v Price scene...
I could never get into this show, but after a million movies and TV shows that make hacking look like a video game, I absolutely appreciate the realism of the hacking scenes on Mr. Robot. Python, tcpdump and sqlcmd and the command line switches used are all totally legit.

They hold lots of shares, have a variety of assets and most importantly lots of powerful people in their social circle.
MOASS will happen. Either before the fall of civilization or after. It will take place.
Most large scheme hacks happen through social engineering. At least when it comes to data leaks.
This is how I viewed ANONYMOUS when I was a kid. Imagine the world we’d be living in if someone, or some group, could do this.

The most unrealistic thing in this is that everyone in that room clicked the link in the text. I don't believe for 1 second the richest people in the world are dumb enough to ALL click on a fishing link in unison at the exact same time, 100% click rate. That doesn't happen.
