Is this your first Carpenters first reaction? RNB
Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1963 and recorded by Richard Chamberlain (1963) and Dianne Warwick (1964) Close to You was only a modest success. With Richard Carpenters treatment of the song and Karen Carpenters stunningly beautiful vocal Cose to You not only was a massive worldwide hit, it won the 1971 Grammy award for Best Contemporary Vocal by a Group or Duo. Beating out The Beatles "Let It Be" and Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water. With this achievement the Carpenters had arrived on the world stage. It became the first of multiple hit records for the Carpenters through the first half of the 1970's. Great reaction MrsPP, RNB
Lovely reaction, Blessing. ❤
This was their first single, released in the summer of 1970, and it absolutely took the charts by storm. From that point forward, there was no looking back for them.
I'm a little surprised this performance didn't include more of Richard's harmonies with her, which were prominent on the original hit and helped to make the tune soar in my opinion.
I can't recall a single release of theirs that didn't immediately chart prominently. Karen was a once-in-a-lifetime talent. 🤗

Lovely song!! Was our first dance song at our wedding in 1973
That must have been so romantic ✨
Thank you for your reaction to this Carpenters song from 1971. Please also react to another one of their songs from 1971, "A Place to Hideaway." Thank you. :)
‘A Song For You’ is one her best vocal performances.
Love, see your reactions. Thanks so much

🏆🏆🏆🏆!
Wonderful song, I'm happy you enjoyed it !!
Karen is as sweet as it comes. A sweetheart with a golden voice..just flowing with natural talent and a great drive for perfection just like her brother."a song for you "by them will blow you away..do the studio version. Not the live one....
Very smooth! Wonderful reaction, Blessing! 🙏😊❤️
When you react to her from now on do it with the recording on the album. If you do it live they leave out important sections for time and it my opinion it takes away the best parts of the song
Yes. This cut off before the amazing harmonies!
Another Great singer apart from the Bee Gees brothers.❤❤her and all her awesome songs ❤sad for her early past away
Check out the great Gwen Guthrie's R&B inspired cover of this song in the 80s.
Karen Carpenter was first and foremost an excellent drummer at heart... but the manager wanted to push her into the sweetheart image and thought she would be more acceptable as a singer. Even though she mastered this role with flying colors, she still suffered a lot inside...
