FYI- A British tabloid had printed a story that Kristi Noehm & C. Lewandowski have been spending a lot of time together & may be having an affair (Not sure how they would know this living in Great Britain?). But, Noehm’s spokes person has issued a Full Denial and said that they are not having an affair.
If your puppy isn't learning fast enough it means you need to put in more effort and time as the owner. To then shoot a puppy instead of atleast rehoming it if you're incapable of training them is sickening.

I guarantee you that if they got out and into my yard, and my chickens were out - they would kill my chickens.
But they are great little dogs, and great with the three kids my neighbors have.
the dog is there to be useful, its not a child, its an animal. If the dog is resistant to training, and doesn't respect the owners' authority, then she did the right thing. Maybe with more patience/time the dog could be trained. But maybe she had important things to do.

Maybe she's a shitty trainer? She used a shock collar, those have shown to cause aggressiveness in dogs. It was a valuable dog, she could've at least taken the dog to a pound and let chance be the decider on the Dog's fate. Plus killing a goat right after? I question her state of mind.

Cricket was 14 months old. Still a puppy, still trainable. Noem wasn't willing to put in more effort to train Cricket and just decided to take the easy way out and kill her. To mention the goat as well. Killed it just for being an animal. There were more humane ways to handle the situations, retraining, rehoming, spaying. If Cricket did not have rabies there really is no good reason to euthanize her like that.

Young female hounds will become very aggressive when they are coursing with other females especially when they are young. All this woman had to do was contact the breeder she purchased the hound from, all reputable breeders rehome their animals.

This reminds me of the nation-wide condemnation she endured for being the only governor not to lock down anything in her state for the entire pandemic. I can only hope that years from now this will be looked at as a flashpoint where the US takes a hard look in the mirror over the immoral level to which animals have been idolized here. There is no modern moral doctrine that would condemn someone putting down their animal that has killed animals owned by others and is deemed an unacceptable risk. Not materialistic evolution that lauds survival of the fittest. Not social contract theory that lauds harmonious coexistence and putting the needs of the many above the few. And not the highest moral authority of all. She has not only done nothing wrong legally here, she has done nothing wrong ethically. It is only a spirit of paganism that would grant such partiality on behalf of a deified animal type like dogs.

Hunting dogs don't kill birds, they either find and point to the birds or get the birds to fly up(springers), or retrieve the birds.
If you do not understand the role of a bird dog in Hunting you should not comment. Bird dogs do not kill birds for the hunter, they use their nose to detect the hidden birds and point them out to the hunter with a classic paw raised pose. The Hunter flushes and shoots the game bird and the dog retrieves. You anti hunters are comically with your indignant statements.

We had rescued 3 dogs (1 pregnant), ended up with 14 puppies 1 summer. Several of the puppies were getting sick & lost a few.
Took the rest of the them to the vet. They all had distemper (mental disease, high mortality rate). I had to put down
9 (1 dog/8 puppies) that afternoon. I walked each 1 of them to the vet, because of the disease, they had to be disposed
of.
THAT was the hardest/difficult day I've ever had to manage.

@@quinnosborn3441 Most any dog will attack chickens. I have Cairn Terriers which are hunting dogs. I know my limits by having them. I can't have bunnies or birds. That is just part of the territory of having hunting dogs. Same goes for her.
The dog was not a biter per say, it was going to bite her if she took the bird away (his prey). My Cairn Terrier was going to attack me when I tried taking a bunny away from him, so I had to wait awhile and sneakingly do it and know that I had to keep the bunnies out of his reach after that.
That is a bad way to frame it. "My dog went rabid and attacked me and I had to put it down" is different and understandable.

I think this happens more than people know. My dad, who was raised in rural Tennessee in the 1930's, talked about stuff like this. If a dog was sick or a hunting dog that couldn't hunt, that dog was considered worthless, they got put down with a bullet to the back of the head. So I wasn't so shocked or offended by what Gov. Noem said she did. I probably couldn't have done that way, but I also don't think any less of her either for doing it.

Worse than that, I have the sense that a majority of voters in the country will either use this as ammunition to vilify her or consider that the incident has made her political anathema. Even if she did nothing wrong it will be likened to the attitudes toward Ron Paul back in 2008 when he was the only Republican against going into Iraq. "Unelectable" in the common voter opinion and therefore not voted for except in his own district as the long time congressman he remained until retirement. And honestly, after the way the rest of the nation largely directed or stood behind the outrage against her for not locking down SD in any way, I think it is rather poetic that she will now remain only a benefit to South Dakota, where human rights still matter more than other priorities.

Grew up with a dog trainer and working Border Collies. I highly doubt she had the time or knowledge to train, michless rehab a dog. Her ultimate handling of the situation, has me questioning her ability as a handler and leaves little belife in her training skills.
Years ago when I started grooming and training dogs, my mother warned me that the owners would burn me out long before the dogs do. I lasted as a trainer all of 3 years and this statement has never rang truer 16 years later as a groomer.
The farm girl was willing to hear the stroy behind the headline, but still found her handling lacking. Not every dog is meant for just any person and this story did nothing to showcase her her intelligence or strength from my perspective
I don’t believe she properly trained the dog. Especially when she said she took the dog hunting hoping the other dogs would calm it down. Bring the dog to a shelter so it can have a chance to be rescued

20 years on a farm and if your dog was chasing the neighbor's cows or getting into things it wasn't supposed to be into. You may get a phone call. One phone call. Maybe. The phone call might be a warning about control the dog or it's going to be dead. Most farmers a dog is More of a working animal. And many times just happens to end up being around because someone needed to get rid of a puppy from a litter and now somehow it becomes yours. Most of the time they're self-sufficient meaning they will eat rats mice and Chase deer out of gardens. They also are used to alert when someone comes into your yard. That's not you. They need to stay without any leash or fence in and around your property farm. If they start. Wandering they will probably not last very long. Now that was many years ago and things have changed. But the attitude of a rancher or farmer is not one of spending a lot of time on a problem. I can see why she put the dog down. Does it make it right? Doesn't make it attractive or tough. Just makes her look like she made a mistake by opening her mouth up and telling everyone. Otherwise. You would never know you would never care and you would not like her for politics. Or you would like it for a politics. Lots of bad people own dogs so dog ownership does not make one a good person.
