The Fantom Sports Network had the grand opportunity of covering the Stagg Bowls 50th Anniversary Game as they returned to their home of Salem, Virginia to crown a 26th National Champion at Salem Stadium.
It was the defending, undefeated North Central Cardinals who would look to make their 4th National Championship appearance - their first trip to Salem - with a chance to write history and go Back-2-Back.
Standing in front of their road to a second straight National Championship was the Cortland Red Dragons - on a mission to write history of their own by winning their first National Championship. The first East Coast team since 2001 to make it to Salem Stadium - and that New York crowd traveled well and loud.
It was a battle between both of these teams, but at the end of 4 quarters - only one could stand tall. In what could be considered as one of the biggest upsets in Stagg Bowl history it was the Cortland Red Dragons who would stand strong and capture their very first National Championship.
Throughout a historic night in a historic stadium was one of the greatest Division III State Championships to be played in Salem, Virginia. The Championship City crowned its 102nd National Champion, and even more history was made in Salem.
