I'm doing the Masterclass in Photography course - which is excellent as re-training for ancient mariners like me. I was most intrigued with the ancient graffiti on the Armoury Wall at Marchwood. As a youngster I was trained as a Signaller for the Royal Navy. The Semaphore reads John Wallis PC BEC - I believe the PC was a Police Constable, the BE probably mean British Empire, and the final C just meant end of message and waiting for an Answer! The dying art of naval semaphore signalling. Looks like a brilliant location for some maritime shoots!
I enjoy watching these more than a normal photography video, there’s something so enjoyable about watching the trip from the biker’s perspective too. (I’m not even a biker.)

I'm not a biker but really enjoy your bike shoots. Unlike many other Photography CZcamsrs who talk at warp speed your relaxed pace of delivery with historic inserts, information about settings and composition and the views of the passing countryside blend together into entertaining and informative videos. And I can highly recommend your Masterclass - a game changer for me. All the best.
Some of those location roads for the biker workshops. Oooohhhhh . . . . . .Loved this one of thinking through potential images, and dreaming about possibilities.
@@MikeBrowne in Tassie a little warmer than the UK, and the rest is definitely a tad hotter! I've chucked the bike in the shed for a few weeks, while we have snow on the mountain behind our little city. . . .I rather like my legs and opposed to them numbed and iced off from the cold air at 100km/hr. And there's plenty of lovely little windy roads to enjoy. Stopping points are little harder to find.
I’m lucky enough to keep my little yacht at Marchwood. It looks great at night and watching the container ships being turned round by the tubs is something to behold.
Another cracking film Mike, thanks so much for posting. You're absolutely right; these locations are great at night and especially on misty spring mornings! Masterful information as usual, Mike! I don't particularly like bikes. But I love the new bike / photography videos you do. Why? Because it is obvious that you are in your happy zone, and that means that we get such positive information!
Hi mike. Great video again. Been to Marchwood a lot of times when I was on the RFA ships. The Sir boats loaded army vehicles and transporting goods to and from there. And my first ship was the QE2 back in 1979 before I jointed the RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary) I did 10 years on the ships has a motorman.
Hi Mike. Something i've been telling myself for quite a long time now is to get up early in the morning to get some pictures in the soft early morning light. This past weekend i was on the Sth Coast for 2 days (Camber and Rye) and the first morning, with best intentions, i failed miserably. 2nd morning, alarm went off at 4.30 and boy was it a struggle to get out of bed. But it paid off big time. The light was AMAZING and literally everything looked interesting. And i had the whole area to myself for 2 hours with no one around. I got some of my most favourite images ever within that short time frame of light. A superb time of day for photography. Cheers mate.
Hi Mike, I live a 5 minute drive away from this place. I have shot many large containers here at night with long exposures, it is an ideal place to get some great starburst shots from the lights coming from the cranes and ships themselves. I have seen some lovely ships there and you also have the added benefit of catching a glimpse of some beautiful cruise ships. I normally go down towards the shoreline (when the tide is out obviously) where you can get really low down and appreciate the scale of these things. Nice video, thanks!
My pony radar was going off first, of course i would have stopped and yes they can be hard to photograph lol. But isn't it about persistence. Whenever I hear Southhampton and cruise ships I think QE2 and Hyacinth. Love seeing around the back roads on your bike and hearing the history. Thinking like a photographer can be frustrating especially if stuck in the passenger seat and all you can see out the window is photos to be taken and the driver won't stop. Love your work, look forward to the next instalment.
Hey Mike, if you are interested you drove past the space age looking Marchwood incinerator which you can see to the left from Cracknore Hard and where you can also see to the right an old ship yard and slip. Straight ahead from there you can see good views of cruise liners and Solent Mills. You also rode past Goatee beach (just before the toll bridge at the foot of the hill and after the church on the right) which also has great views of another part of Southampton docks and the cranes, it's well lit up and looks interesting at night. You can park on the other side of the road in the cemetery carpark and I'm ngl, it can be pretty creepy to get to at night. If you fancy trying it, especially at night, as you walk between the houses and down the path just keep Eling quay and the water to your left and you wont get lost. I look forward to seeing part two :-)
Hello Mike another great video i have found personally that the older i get the less time i have to enjoy my myself.Between family il health and bad weather just cant seem to do what i want to do Portrait wise with the Great Grandchildren ive done well but here in Wales the weather has been crap Done some great bird photography in the garden weather permitting im lucky really i dont stick to landscape always great to view your video With the price of petrol wish i had a motor bike lol
I have recently found your videos and really enjoy them, especially when you tie the bike into the photography. I too ride and shoot. What brand and size is your bike? I ride a Honda vt1300 Interstate. I don't get out as often as I would like but I do enjoy it immensely. Keep up the good work.

Yesterday(sat) i had my worst day & night of photography since taking it up just over 3 yrs ago, a state car club had a cruise from 1 town to another with no other information apart from going to X from Y. So i went to a spot about midway on the main road & most travelled way to X, getting there at 12.50pm being 10min before their departure time from Y & about 35min before when they should have passed by. Waited until 2.15pm but all to no avail with them taking a back rd route, then into town hoping to catch them cruising the main street last night(pretty typical to do) but nope nothing doing & a total waste of 150km travel, time & of course fuel

Location, access, and motivation can be very limiting factors in photography. This is where persistence kicks in! Great job as always Mr B....
