    Can we just appreciate how Jinora was younger than Aang, mastered her spirituality, risked her life for Korra and gut stuck in the spirit world, is the most mature child of Tenzin, and when her head gets shaved she looks like Aang. She is one of the best characters in Korra. She's so strong and intelligent and easily one of my favorite characters and reminds me soooo much of Aang .

    I know it's ridiculous but this song always gets to me. Can you just imagine how small you would feel standing next to a giant representation of all the potential within you? Here you are, struggling and burdened, and yet this is here to remind you of what you're capable of becoming, but also how far you'll have to go to get there.

Her story is not as lovable as Aang's and she's definitely a mentally weaker avatar, but people forget that she's NOT Aang! I think if you stop expecting LOK to be ATLA and take the story as it is you can enjoy it. LOK had some really out-there ideas and really cool villains. People complain and don"t understand the whole Jinora coming in, but I thought it was great. She shed light in the dark that exposed Raava (Uncle Iroh explained it to Korra), she guided Korra to the spirit world and to the light spirit, and she saved her spirit from being engulfed in darkness much like Korra saved her from the same fate. All woven in a very subtle way.
    Edit: Wow I wrote this so long ago and my opinions have definitely changed since then. I re-watched the entire series and enjoyed things from it but have seen many flaws that I missed from my last viewing (especially from this book). I've heard many You-tubers re-imagine this book and I enjoyed it more than what we've got, but that's just me, many people still like this season and I'm glad that they did. People change and opinions change. I still like this song.

I can understand her going into the spirit world, but for her to feel Korra's defeat approaching and project her spirit and produce a light that brought the rebirth of Raava with no prior training was just poor development in ability. I seriously don't get the book 2 haters. I personally loved the spirits theme and I thought it told a lot about the world of Avatar. Book 2 showed us the other side of the world, the spirit world, in depth. Unlike ATLA, which only seemed to poke certain aspects of the spirit world. I think book 2 also answered a lot of big fan questions. Who was the first Avatar? What exactly is the Avatar? Stuff like that was answered in book 2.
    That's one of the reasons why I can appreciate book 2 and actually like it more than book 1. It's not far behind book 3 either. Before book 2, I was very interested in the spirit world. It's just such a magical place. After I had watched book 2, my interest in the spirit world had doubled.

Korra was so unbearable during those episodes, they made me want to quit too, until Beginnings came along and redeemed the whole season. After that episodes 9-14 were great since they focused on the Spirit World.

While ATLA showed me what the avatar was capable of, I feel like LOK has shown me who the avatar is behind all their power. I at first thought that a season about spirits would be absolutely lame and a waste, and I was dead wrong! While the villain definitely took a backseat throughout most of the season, I enjoyed not having everything centered around him. This season answered so many questions and it truly was phenomenal. And come on, there can't be a hater that can complain about us getting Varrick and Zhu Li!

      I agree. It wasn't perfect, but you know what? Weather people want to or not, neither was season 1 of Korra or Avatar were either. But of course the flaws are vastly outmatched by all the wonderful characters and episodes.
      We gained so much more than we've lost. I still really like Unalaq even if I can't ever say it without attempted crucifiction by fans.
      Season 2 wasn't quite the best for Korra, the best was yet to come, but it marked the point for me where it found it's own voice with darker storytelling and being unafraid to expand upon Avatar's legacy. It stopped feeling like an Avatar spinoff, and as a worthy sequel in it's own right that chose to take things in a different direction, and not be Aang2.0.

      Every season of Korra has been unique and fresh. Book 1 was a crazy new world with a very convincing villain. Book 2 the growth of the characters continued, (Tenzin, Korra, and Jinora had many character building moments). The villain was more or less the background of the story until the end and it was more focused on the characters evolving and revealing the lore of the world. The ending of Book 2 established a new era of possibilities for the final two books along with Korra having less guidance available for the final books. From what I've experienced in Book 3 so far, the show has developed it's characters and villains incredibly this book and I cannot wait to see what happens this Friday in the Finale!

      LoK had a lot of problems in and of itself. Yes, let's let the eternal spirit of darkness be the season 2 enemy and have the final season's enemy be a random metal bender and falsely make the final battle epic where she controls a big metal robot engineered by a guy whom Varrick didn't even take that seriously until that point, cause you know, plot.

    • @awoolf2463
      @awoolf2463 Před 9 lety +24

      Meidoification I fail to see whats wrong with either of those plots. Each have their background with really good writing. The first one was just as unbelievable what kind of country would want to find a war for 100 years constantly? The U.S couldn't even make it 10 years with the whole country backing it up. The fire nation plot was just as good as any LOK plot.

    • @elmuchacho3379
      @elmuchacho3379 Před 9 lety +17

      a woolf what he/she meant was that it seemed rather unfit the final villain being a random metal bender whos finale is a giant robot while the halfway villain was the embodiment of darkness, and the finale was the possibility of leaving the world in darkness for 10,000 years.

    • @Fantallana
      @Fantallana Před 9 lety +11

      Meidoification the themes strike much deeper than that. Just because Unalaq /physically/ became an embodiment of darkness and Kuvira wasn't /physically/ anything of that sort, doesn't mean she wasn't thematically a better series-end villain. There were themes of how she reflected Korra, and the final season was more about Korra's arc than anything. (As well as themes of Balance.) As it should be.

      i feel like korra was more emotional because of her brash behaviour, its like a ying and yang thing, aang, when in the avatar state, was fersome and scary however he was a peace loving human, while korra is brash and all out for a fight, she had the emotional side where her consequences had actual effect and she would always learn that the hard way, she was put through so much more because she had originally lived a life of easy training but when she trully became the avatar, she learnt, mentally, that she is just one person who had to bear the burden of everyones suffering, including herself. aang had it easy, learn the elements, defeat one guy, he even had the chance of love, sure you could say that around the end, aang faced his fear and got over the traumatising experience of burning his friend but he didnt suffer anything mental besides ansomnia

    In terms of story, this book was by far the best in the entire franchise. The hate towards it mostly comes from a lack of understanding of the show.
    - People apparently complain about Jinora's abilities, but it was never stated that only the Avatar could have spiritual powers. On the contrary, this book shows that anyone can get in and out of the spiritual world (Hiro even literally lives in the Spirit world), and many people interact with spirits all the time. It's also not specific to the Legend of Korra, since the Last Airbender has several episodes dedicated to spirits. So I don't see why Jinora couldn't have spiritual powers.
    - Jinora's power doesn't come out of nowhere, she develops it through this entire season. There's no need to explain _why_ she has those powers, just like there is no need to explain why Korra (and Aang before her) was the chosen one instead of other characters.
    She uses her astral projection to find someone multiple times in this season, so it makes sense that she'd be the one to find Raava in the end. Her whole character is "the one who finds others".
    Jinora is also a much more optimistic character than Korra, so again, it makes sense that she'd be the one to find the Light and not Korra.
    - Unalak was brillantly written, only a couple of lines are ridiculous ("I am the Malefic avataaaar!" and "Let the Darkness expand" ; basically the stereotypical villain lines). Ignoring the few dialogues where he's portrayed as the cliché evil guy, that character makes a relevant and deep point : Society gets more and more superficial, to the point that it ignores the important matters that could bring chaos and disorder.
    In the case of this season, it's the anger of the Spirits, which the Water Tribes _must_ appease but the South Tribe gave up on this job. It also ties to the superficial life in the Republic City. If Bolin becomes an actor in this season, it's because Hollywood is renowned for being superficial, so the authors used it as a basis for a plot point.
    Basically, Unalak had a point. And that's why Korra decides to literally do what he wanted to do (let the spirits invade the human world).
    - The Last Airbender showed that the Avatar had to calm the wars between different "magical nations". Book 1 of Korra shows that the Avatar must also appease the tensions between "Mages" and "non-mages". Book 2 expands the role of the Avatar even further, showing that it has to be the bridge between spirits and humans (something that _was_ explained in the original series, but was never truly important to the plot).
    - There's freaking VARIK! That character is the best in this entire world, lol. Seriously, that guy is the perfect definition of opportunist, and I love how he's always in control, even when he's thrown in prison.
    All in all, this book is the one that has the most lore of all seasons (across _both_ series). It also has some of the best scenes, and some of the best characters.
