How did Nickelodeon make such a perfect show in every way imaginable? History, soundtrack, storyline, characters, development. This show is everything!
They Didn't The Original creators of avatar did
Yeah it wasn't Nickelodeon. It was the actual team of creators that Nickelodeon payed to make it. That's the thing about TV shows and movies and whatnot; people tend to give credit to the companies when they're just the piggy bank financing things. It's the, you know, actual creators who are entirely responsible.
I don't mean to come off as rude, by the way.
@@lucasharvey8990 yeah thats true, i just thought they were a part of Nickelodeon. But good that you corrected me on it.đ

Fuuuuuuuuuukkkk.. it's been more than a decade and I still get teary eyed when I watch this part.
*"To General Iroh: See you after we win the war. Your loyal son Lu Ten."*
So I was thinking about that letter. We see flashbacks of Zuko, Lu Ten, and Iroh on Ember Island and it makes him seem like a joyful, fun father/uncle. But this letter makes it seem like Iroh and Lu Tenâs relationship was extremely formal, barely any emotion conveyed in it. I may be reading it wrong đ€·ââïž
He never came home....
*SOBBING LOUDLY*
maxmitch96, I donât think their relationship was formal because Iroh is incredibly sad and informal about his sadness, which he wouldnât do if he were to honor his sonâs memory, but either way seems right and if youâre correct thatâd be pretty rad to see
Maxmitch96: I read the letter as a loyal son wanting to do his father proud. "General Iroh" and "Uncle Iroh" were two different people. I imagine he was strict as a fire nation general since that was the mainstream attitude at the time, but you wouldnt see a son who hates their father write them this letter.
I feel Lu Ten was an admirable bender who really made "General Iroh" proud, and though they may not have had the loving relationship Zuko and Iroh had I can definitely see a more formal General Iroh being outspoken and proud of his accomplished son, probably often bragging how the fire nation was in good hands with him next in line and Lu Ten after.
And then that all changed when Lu Ten died. His talented accomplished son died, and we know what happened from there.
I think Irohs sadness doesnt stem from his son being "gone" gone. He has had time to accept that. I feel he is sad because he never had the time to help him down a different path, and loved him in a way he would have really wanted to love his son (the way he loves Zuko) and not the traditional fire nation esteemed father/esteemed son relationship they probably did have.
I dont see Iroh being a bad father in any way, or having a strictly formal relationship with any of his family. I do see him being more strict, and "fire nationy" but I feel behind closed doors Iroh was more of a chilled father then some others were.
Still the values him and Lu Ten held during their time together probably affected Iroh in his later years. No matter how much he learned and redeemed himself, guided and taught others, he could never truly help Lu Ten any further then carrying his memory with him.
For some reason I read this and immediately thought of an AU where Iroh died instead and Lu Ten and he became the Iroh in the story
âIf someone cries, they are not weak, they have just been strong for too long.â

I'm here 7 years later with my wife, my son, and so much more than I could've ever dreamed of owning. I got here because despite who I was then, Grandma took a bet on me. She walked with me, guided me. Helped me restore my relationship with my parents. To me, she was my Uncle Iroh.

Avatar was not a show, it was a journey. A journey through the lives of the characters, and the characters growth as individuals. The most amazing transformation was zuko. Iroh learned from his mistakes and lead zuko to a better path than the one he had set for his son all those years ago. Iroh though his past was less than ideal, always saw the good in life and everything. He realized he could not fix the past, but could shape the present to help and guide those around him to better themselves, and their understanding of life.

I'm a huge fan of emotional moments in film and television, but oddly enough, I don't always cry. When I do, though, I sob like a baby. However, TV wise, there was only one tv show that made me cry my heart out: Gravity Falls. It was such a personal story, one that felt like it wanted to be made and one that needed to be told. When Grunkle Stan spent his entire life putting everything at risk to bring his brother back, when all he wanted to do was to hear his brother say thank you even after their lives together were ruined as teenagers, when he gave up everything, his entire life and memories, to save his family and the entire town, and Dipper saying a final monologue to the audience... I was in tears, man. I never thought any tv show could hit me that hard again
Then I was recommended Avatar: The Last Airbender
I heard it changed the status quo for what a cartoon could be, but other than that, I had zero context for what the show was actually about. So I started watching, and soon, I was enthralled in the sprawling world the creators invented, chock full of colorful and sympathetic characters that I'll always remember.
Then... I reached Tales of Ba Sing Se. And I was not ready.
Leaves From the Vine is one of my favorite moments from something I've seen on a TV screen, period. Even though I had never truly felt a big loss in my personal life, I really felt like I had when Iroh sat there at the tree, weeping, reciting this lovely ballad in memory of his fallen son. Then the scene becomes a silhoute, and the text reads In Honor of Mako
Guys... I don't think I cried so hard in my life. Tied with Gravity Falls, Avatar is my favorite TV show of all time, and it's because of moments like this. We love you, Uncle Iroh
We miss you, Mako
you know my brother once told me that he watched avatar when he was a kid i never watched it until recently when he died in a crash and this song just makes me sit and think of how glad he was to mention that tiny thing about the fact that he watched this show. thank you bro i will never forget you
That one guy 1 Thatâs rough, buddy.

You're really going to get a kick out of this Prince Zuko, the lotus tile was in my sleeve the whole time!
Such an underrated funny Iroh moment. XD
**throws it**
I really hope the remake will not leave out this beautiful relationship between Zuko and Uncle Iroh, how Zuko became the brave solider boy that returned to him in the end.

I love how the main theme was kind of incorporated in this rendition. Just pure harmony. Came here after watching the netflix version of this. It caught me off guard and began to tear up.. thank you for this!

This show was not just a show.. it was more, it showed the dangers of this world while also not making it too dark for children. I love this show.
While it showed us the dangers of the world it also showed us the beauty as well it showed us to open our minds to others and for us to better understand those around us not just people but nature too and through that we gained wisdom so that we can help others understand the way things are instead of what they seem
This show was a experience. I still don't think I've ever found a piece of media with character writing as consistently good as avatar, and I've always been a very avid reader, so it's not from lack of competition.
@@Parmesan_Seeker what sets ATLA appart is the consistency of its quality.
There's several works like the Sword of Truth where in the author seems to just reach out to you and share his philosophy in a brilliant way but those moments are rather rare. ATLA does it more consistently it feels like. It's odd that a kid show does such a great job in not in telling a story. But also sharing deeper meanings like the impact of war and such.
Another story from an odd angle that turned out to be a gift that kept on giving was the web novel:
A practical guide to evil
Do wrong right
It's available on WordPress for anyone interesting, it starts a bit crude but as the story grows, the author does too. And as the author grows so does the world building leading up to a brilliant conclusion. Since you claim to be an avid reader I would definitely recommend.

A man who gave many of us an amazing childhood. May Mako rest in piece, and thank you for being a grandfather figure to us all.
You can feel the emotion in this song
No parent should outlive their child. This song hits home to so many people, and that pain can be felt by evryone who listens to this song
Me: Nothing can penetrate my emotional barriers!
This song: "Parry this you filthy casual!"
I'm reading the comments through the tears and I totally misread and thought your comment said "Nothing can penetrate my emotional barrels"
The scene of iroh crying about his son hits hard. Iroh couldn't help his son and became determined to be better and help others. I had a cousin that was like my brother. He died in a car accident because he didn't have his seat belt. I told him to put on his seat belt before he got in the car but I should have been persistent. Now i live my life being cautious and studying survival, medical, and repair topics to never be useless again.
Tears from our eyes,
Come rolling down,
Like little drops of rain,
When we hear the sound,
Avatar fans,
have nothing to defend
Against Uncle Iroh's,

Not gonna lie, when he started singing to the picture of his son by the tree, I got a little teary eyed. It takes a lot to make me cry... That should tell you something.

"Leaves From The Vine" is one of the most beautifulest songs, that I have ever heard.

Because as children we didn't fully understand the situation.
Uncle iroh seemed to be mourning the death of his son.
In reality it was Mako saying good bye to us the day before he passed away
When I first heard Iroh sing this song to the little boy crying in the streets of Ba Sing Se I thought, "that's a nice song". But when I heard him sing it to his son I started bawling like a baby.
RIP Mako. I will always remember his time as Iroh
You never realize how much you love somebody until theyâre gone.
The song was written by mako itâs about his time in the Army. He wrote it once he found out he was dying from cancer this was his goodbye to us. RIP Mako truly unforgettable performance as Iroh.
That makes me want to cry even more đą.
@@LMG1792 Well sadly it wasn't written by Mako. Michael DiMartino (one of the creators of ATLA) is the lyricist. It's a common misconception that Mako wrote it.

Iroh sat alone, sadness had gripped his heart many times before as he watched his nephew grow.
But this sadness was replaced by righteous anger, He had lost one son to The Fire Nation's damned conquest of a war; he would not lose another.
And so, he trained, Lu Ten on his mind once more. He would not let Ozai send Zuko to die again, he refused.

he never forgave him. because he was never angry at him
Iroh reminds me of my grandfather so much.
His love, life experiences in losing his daughter, his wisdom and even his hugs.
