I returned something at Kohls from amazon and they gave me a 25% off coupon on my receipt ....and I wound up buying something I wasn't planning on buying. So it worked on me.
Same here but I never used it and expired
Yes, it always works.
@@laurenzo9160 it's a Amazon employees that's doing the returns & shipping to their warehouse so I don't see the problem unless I'm wrong correct me on that.
Same here, and the fact that it worked on top of the clearance items made it really nice. Got three shirts for $25 !
@@laurenzo9160 what are you even talking about? Kohl's gave me a coupon because I dropped off my Amazon return package. I used that coupon to buy something. Nothing bad happened.
They're literally just vibing
Being an employee for quite a while now, I can definitely say the Amazon return gimmick works wonders, especially since we give everyone who has an amazon return an additional 25% off coupon. The rare instances I'm at a register and I see someone walk in with an amazon package, they always leave buying something. It was a great stroke of genius in a time of dire need for all retailers.
I used to work at Kohl's and the emphasis on getting customers to sign up for a Kohl's charge was overwhelming. Interesting it doesn't seem to make too much of an impact.
When I worked there the manager called me and said that I needed to get a credit before finishing my shift.
I used to work at Kohls and i remember the mangers pushing every cashier to get 1 charge card every 2 hours. After I left, they started writing people up if you didn't make your goal....i hated working there.
Truth ,i work at Kohl's they do spend lots of time having us sell the Kohl's card
@@Sirenhalo oh wow!! That dont write us up my managers are pretty cool . The help us become more efficient at our job
I use to work there. And never going back. I mean it wasn't that bad. If I didn't get a credit I honestly didn't care. Mostly, everyone has it.
Kohl's has basically replaced JCPenney as the store where everyone's mother loves to shop, so I see it sticking around for awhile.
I see way more people at jc Penney tho. Maybe because jcpenney are usually at malls
Kohl's replaced JCPenny by, ironically, doing the opposite of JCPenny
🤣🤣🤣 Lois Griffin DID get Stewie's swimming trunks there...
Kohl's if you have their credit card you don't spend very much everytime you shop you get a big discount. Then some people still get the Sunday paper which has amazing kohl's coupons. So you combine the 2 together and you save alot of money. Not everyone bleeds money so kohl's is my store.
JCPenney is dying and closing stores
i feel like kohl’s is usually moderately empty but there’s always like a handful of moms buying a ridiculous mound of clothes
There are 2 types of moms:
-Try EVERYTHING on and buy 2 things and leave the rest in the fitting room.
-Buy everything in 3 different sizes then return 95% of the items purchased.
at the kohls I work at, there's TONS of people daily. they either buy 2 things or 50 things. a large part of it is that kohls is now a amazon return location. you get $5 in kohls cash every time you do an Amazon return, and people are more likely to spend after returning their Amazon stuff.
It’s the Kohl’s cash 😂 lol I love Kohl’s cash and it seems like they always have a sale on clothes… especially reasonably priced Business casual clothes!
@@tori5532 i work in the warehouse and we are constantly. I also say i keep getting raises so if we weren't good i wouldnt
oh no trust me, kohls is PACKEd daily
In this retail environment, if you're holding steady, you're doing well.
Yea, the goal at this point is to not file for bankruptcy.
my company had its best year this year and corona only grew my revenues, i am very thankful
Especially during these years & especially during the time of a pandemic. Of course Kohl’s might strive to be better, but if they’re staying steady they know they’ll be fine.
Early 1900's: Save up to buy an entire store or house.
Now: Do i want groceries or a new pair of jeans.
Went to pick up an Amazon purchase, thought I'd brouse a little... Was shocked @ the prices. I couldn't afford a pair of socks let alone an entire outfit!

@@jlegasp What do you mean by that statement? 🤔
I didnt know kohls was so successful because everytime i go to one its always empty
I don't understand how they stay in business. They have a crazy pricing system where everything has a "sticker' that is outrageously inflated, but then throw all sorts of gimmicky sales, and promotions to make you think you are getting a deal? I hate the gimmicks.
@@nicholas_scott they're crap they're over 5 billion dollars in debt!!

That CEO is probably one of the savviest minds in retail. She's figured out the most creative ways to keep a brick-and-mortar store thriving.

When I wanted my Apple Watch I found out it was $400 everywhere including Kohl’s, but Kohl’s gave me $120 in Kohl’s cash (which is store credit) so I paid the same price that I would have elsewhere, but got some free stuff with it
I love the Amazon returns. There's just something hilarious about all other retailers being terrified of this huge beast and Kohls just lets it right in the front door.
I think it definitely worked in their favor. I'd never shopped in one but found myself buying a lot of Christmas gifts last year when I went in to use the Amazon return center.
yeah for sure. the Amazon returns are usually at the back in customer service, so you have to walk by a ton of clothes and purses to get to it. when you return amazon products you get $5 back in kohls cash and it's very likely you'll look around and purchase something.
That AND that 35% discount they have with the Kohl’s Charge card helps A LOT (whether I like it or not)
If cant beat them join them
@@tori5532 I don't work at the Amazon thing but from what I read on reddit about working the Amazon returns. It is a complete nightmare.
I’ve never been to Kohl’s before until I found out it was the closest place I could return something from Amazon. After completing the return, the receipt included a $10 coupon to shop at Kohl’s
Gotta say, I have been watching this channel for years, and this has been one of the most consistent and well produced channels around. Good job and keep up the great work!!
Exactly.
“Why is Kohl’s so successful?” Me: “is it?”
This is ironic to me because the Kohl's near me has almost like no people in it at all times and I'm 99% sure they are going to close down soon.
Phil Martins like he said some close down and some don’t that must be one where they do close doen
Two closed down in my area, but wow does one of the area surviving Kohl's become impossible to park at during Black Friday, and there's this insane line that goes all of the way to the back of the store. Um, yeah, I guess it's time to write down the article of clothing at the store, then order it online instead
The one by me is near the Sears that is closing this month
One of the ones in town here has been like that for YEARS, and is still open. It makes no sense.
I just made a comment similar to this before I saw it. Everytime I’ve been into Kohl’s and it’s not much the store has been empty. So I don’t know if they’re cooking the books or what because I just don’t see it
Your channel has helped me keep a heading with my business classes. With all the principle, accounting, and business law courses this channel has given me a real-world application of the knowledge I'm gaining.

Kohls started as a GROCERY STORE??? File that under “interesting facts”.
Want to know another interesting fact? Walmart use to be a peaceful store before they've became harmful/dangerous stores in hoods..
From Milwaukee,WI
Can confirm that. Used to shop at one when I was younger.
Yup. My grandmother lived across the street from a Kohl’s grocery store. It was confusing because my aunts would talk about getting clothes at Kohls. (They lived in Milwaukee and I would just visit). It does seem to have taken JCPenney’s position in the market.
I've always just enjoyed walking into Kohls and exploring the store. It's typically empty when it's not the holidays, and gives off some cool vibes. Def one of my favs in terms of shopping experience.
I'm not sure why but I'd rather go to Kohl's over Macy's and Penny's

Man I hated when they made me close and then open the next day cause I'd close at 10:30 and have to be back by 6
Yea back during the holiday it really did suck. I work be working from 4:00 till around 10-11:00 then need to be up for school at like 6:30. So many hours of schools and work.

The two previous episodes for "Why they're successful" have both been on companies started in Wisconsin... either it's simply a coincidence or Company Man is trying to tell us something.
Lillian Shepherd Don’t forget Shopko, which bankrupted not long ago, was also founded in Wisconsin.
Mabey he is from Wisconsin
You're thinking too hard
Wisconsin is the place to be! :-)
wisconsin at heart!!
I love Kohls. And I appreciate the fact that EVERYTHING I purchase (even sale items!) rings up CHEAPER than what they advertise when I get to the register.
It's a ploy, it was never actually that expensive. They can alter the prices remotely, that's why they have the electronic markers
How do you advertise within your own store? 🧐
They manipulate prices to make people, and women in particular, to feel like they are saving money. They manipulate the feeling of saving into profit
That's cause the prices are always changing and sometimes it hard to keep up with changing signs. The people who do clearance mark downs sometimes miss a rack or a couple clothing items also. Trust me, when we check you out at the registers and the price is cheaper than what is said on signs or the clearance tag we are surprised too.
@@rj9955hi Actually we have no control over pricing at the actual store. All those e-signs (the gray electronic signs sitting on top of racks) are all controlled by corporate. We cannot choose what those signs say nor can we "remotely control them", we can only update them and choose what items get displayed on the signs. Everything else is decided by the WAY higher ups. And its not just kohls, lots of retailers hike up their MSRPs and keep lots of items perpetually on sale. I worked at Kohl's for over 2 years, and if you know how to shop Kohl's is easily one of the most affordable department stores.
@@rj9955hi If it works, it works. There was a store (either jcpenney or sears) who tried to cut the BS and get rid of all the "inflate prices and then mark it down it down" style of sale. They just gave the items the lowest price to begin with. People didn't like that and they began to complain that they missed the sales and coupons. They didn't feel like they were getting a deal anymore, even if it was the exact same price they'd pay after the "sale."
My hubby works for kohl’s and they are paying all their employees during this time!! A great company to work for as they support their employees in times of financial crisis!!
Ok I'm shopping there now!

I used to work at Kohl’s (seasonal), and I actually liked working there! My coworkers were all friendly, everyone was supportive, and overall I really recommend working there!
I live in Wisconsin and I used to shop at the grocery stores in the 80's and 90's. Being a large gal, it's the only place I shop for clothes. They have good prices and the clothes don't fall apart in 6 months. I hope they are around for a long time.
Same for me when it comes to clothes. I'd miss them a lot if they closed.
The clothes last for years I've had clothes there since 2011
I returned an Amazon item to Khols and they have me a coupon for 25% off any item. I did buy something that day.
Then their foot traffic strategies work
There are a few people that complained about this when I worked there. “You’re just trying to get my money.” No ma’am I get paid the same rather you shop or not. It’s Kohl’s that wants your money. It’s a store they make money from your purchases.
I stepped into a Kohls for the first time to bring back an Amazon return and ended up signing up for their email programs and buying a few Christmas presents while i was there. I actually really like Kohls and love the return service!
Dollars Spent At Kohl's Before 2019: $0.00
Dollars Spent At Kohl's Since 2019: $102.82

I did not end up buying anything, but it did attract me to stay in the store for half an hour more to look for things I would buy. And to be honest, I almost bought some t-shirt (but they ran out of my size).
There is only one reason Kohls enjoys success: My wife shops there.
Retail in general would collapse without women.
@Blackpilled Saint it's the opposite in my house. My husband is the one wasting all the money. 😡😣
@Blackpilled Saint therein lies the truth.
Is this entire thread just self-detrimental feminism?
My husband’s wife, too. 😬
As a lifelong Milwaukeean, I kind of miss Kohl's grocery stores just out of nostalgia. You can always identify where they used to be, because they all had that arched building facade that was shown in the video.
I love Kohl’s and my local store is always busy! Their coupons are great, they let you stack them and the sales and clearance are always good! They are very generous in giving you discounts, I forgot my coupon once and they still let me get the discount.
Every time I walk into Kohl’s, I get Mervyns vibes. The memories of the simple days 😭

I grew up in Milwaukee WI so my first experience with the company was as a grocery store. It was the main supermarket in Milwaukee for decades. Great video!
Good management skills is probably the reason why Kohl's still exists today.
I worked for Kohl’s for years. I can agree on that. I mean if lower and middle management is great. Other stores I despised calling a manager. They sit on their ass all day in the office, and bitch when you need assistance. Kohl’s management knew when to agree with customer and when to support the associate.
100%. we are trained to always try to figure out a way to help a customer if we cannot honor their original request. management refuses to let regular employees get verbally abused, and require us to call for them if a customer is giving us a hard time. management seems like they actually enjoy their job and aren't just there for a paycheck.
Kohls has gorgeous looking store& gorgeous looking employees too : great chothes ; toys ; everything
Kohl’s reminds me of Mervyns and I appreciate that.
The closest Khols to me used to be a Mervyns.
A Mervyns in my city eventually became Kohl's. I do think Mervyns and Kohl's are similar with the kinds of things they both sell, the sales they often had and their atmosphere is also similar.

Kohl's is that one business that became a massive success and was actually satisfied with it, instead of trying to grow and grow until they collapse under their own weight and debt. I certainly would love to have stagnant growth if it meant moving 20 billion dollars in inventory a year.
I grew up in SE WI and knew Kohl’s as a grocery store first. It was my family’s favorite store, and I loved the big arch on them. It was weird when they opened department stores, but we shopped there from the beginning. 90% of my clothes in high school were from Kohl’s. I was born in the mid 90’s in Milwaukee. And I still have some memories of going to the kohl’s grocery store that closed in the early 00’s. A lot of them were designed with an old arc over the building. There are still a few buildings in the area that you can tell used to be former kohl’s just based on the arch designs.
I also remember there being a kohl’s grocery store and department store located in the same suburban mall outside of milwaukee. The grocery store was torn down obviously but the department store still remains till this day. Even after the mall was demolished and redesigned into a town center.
I work at Kohl's and honestly Amazon returns are hell - I don't do Amazon, I'm in the home and kids departments but I have many coworkers in customer service who come over to complain about how difficult sorting and keeping track of the returns is. My location is also kinda understaffed, so sometimes it's one person handling all of customer service plus Amazon. It could also be the area I'm from, but Amazon attracts a ton of entitled and problem customers. I can see this collapsing real quick.
I work at customer service, and all of the problems (other than problem customers) are because of understaffing, bad UI in the app we use to sort things, and user error.
When things are slow, it’s fine. But if it gets really busy and you’re the only one back there, it piles up really quickly and is hard to get under control.
The sorting errors are usually because of people going too fast for the app to keep up. You have to scan the tracking number, then the box, then wait for the screen to clear otherwise it won’t sort properly.
@@open617 I work at kohls, and you are so right. SLOW DOWN the app takes 2 seconds (yes that's it but feels like 2 years) before you can scan the next item to sort. Amazon has been great for the company! You just need a good process in line at your store :) it's one of the things I oversee but I haven't had to touch it since Christmas because my team is out of this world amazing
At my store we haven't really had any issues other than lazy people sorting way too many returns into one box because they don't want to set up a new one. We were crazy busy for weeks after christmas with amazon returns, well past the time corporate thought we would slow down. My managers are really good at helping at customer service so someone can sort though.
My store has one of the highest return rates in the company and it's a hassle to do the returns, unless you dont have a system to make it easier. I occassionally cover Amazon. I do the returns, the sorting, and sort it to the trailer (I'm also the ops lead). This past holiday was overwhelming. We had at least two sweep trucks a week until it finally became manageable.
I work at kohl's in Amazon return I loved it so far very fast paced! You have to scan the items in then sort them into different label boxes audit the boxes /items you just scanned out then to storage room now remember which package is which when there's a lot it can be overwhelming a bit lol
Live in Wisconsin, I remember going to a Khols grocery store when I was little. Had one less than 5 minutes from my house. The green logo was iconic
Born and raised in the Milwaukee area, Kohl’s has been a huge part of my life. It’s always been my main regular go to department store for almost anything. It’s just so consistent in the quality you get for the best prices.
I live in Brookfield, WI and I had no idea Kohl's started here.
I love Kohl's. As an adult, I've been going there since I was 19 and I'm 40 now.
I haven't gone clothes shopping in a long time due to the pandemic but they were
doing well in my area when I was last there in January.
I felt like Kohls were disappearing like Mervyns, Montgomery Ward, and sears.
Then I see then operating Amazon Dropoffs
The one by me was bought out by the city in eminent domain. It's a voting place and other state related stuff

The Amazon drop off's attract people that don't wanna be there. It is like dragging vegetarian into a steak house. All they are doing is making Amazon stronger by giving them free shipping
@@bobbluefield557 well you talk about Amazon getting stronger as if that's really hurt cold to begin with and I got news that's a false narrative......
online retail only makes up 8 to 10% of all retail sales not to mention the majority of your retailers they started out the very same way the Amazon dead they only did it a hundred years ago so you didn't stare at a computer screen you instead looked at a catalog but it was still the same concept so I'm sorry they can't claim that that's hurt their business when the majority of these companies calls included they to have offered online sales for 20 some years pointing and clicking Is not A New concept and it's high time people stop acting like it is!!
@@American-Motors-Corporation unless something drastically changes, all retail stores not named Walmart and Target are dead. Giving Amazon free shipping doesn't help anyone but Amazon. I would never hold a retail stock like Kohl's long term. Too risky
My mom took me there when I needed clothes growing up, and I've kept going. They've always got what you're looking for at a good price, even better than online sometimes thanks to sales or clearance. Last time I was in there, I got two shirts for dirt cheap off the clearance rack, and I really like them!
i work at kohl's and i love it, they're so amazing to associates & customers !!!
I used to work at one as a seasonal associate, and boy it was great, loved it! Never thought I’d ever say that about a job lol
Do a video on Burlington Coat Factory 😩
@Mice Elf thats why its amazing 💪
@Mice Elf your posting cringe bro
They seemed to have really gone downhill over the years. They just opened one in my town, and it feels kinda junky and unkept. I don’t recognize many of the labels. It seems like most of their stuff is “left over, last year” styles.
@@JimmyB463DP they're all like that, dumpy and depressing. Though the one i go to sometimes does have a lot of name brand stuff.
I like Burlington...
Cool videos. I appreciate the Wisconsin focused content lately, I'm from Milwaukee and quite enjoy Culver's chicken tenders and Kohls cash. May I suggest Milwaukee Tool, Menards, Harley Davidson.
Menards would be a good one. They are always busy. Privately held, always expanding, seem to be doing something right - even with really stiff competition from HD and Lowe's.
Happy to be working for this company to keep bringing new ideas n build great teams. San Antonio TX 😁. God bless everyone 🙏
Actually them accepting Amazon returns is a strategic move. Because once they are in returning they might walk by something and want to buy it. It actually evens out believe it or not.
I always wondered how they stayed in business.
My channel will stay in business forever because I am super funny.
They got good casual clothes like nike shirts. Not to mention how if you spend 50$ you get 10$ Kohls cash
@@JaKingScomez no they really don't what it is it's the same chinese-manufactured crap that you'll find a Target and Walmart they just sew in different labels and you think you're getting something special and then they charge you out the ass for it!!
But that's the price of being preppy!!

@@American-Motors-Corporation are you ok man you keep going around copy and pasting that same articular everywhere its actually annoying
Can we take a moment to appreicate how the one mushroom at 3:25 is defying gravity?
I'm born and raised in Milwaukee and so I grew up going to Kohl's grocery stores. Most of the grocery store buildings had that same arch in front. Many of the buildings are still there, but have been sold to other companies, and some were blocked off or cemented over to prevent break-ins.
When I was a wee little one growing up in Wisconsin, I remember everyone being *very* confused why a grocery store chain was suddenly going to start selling clothing. It's funny that the grocery part has all but been forgotten.
