    Those are two definite innovations for cordless tools.

    I got the soldering iron and love it. Heats up quick, and is convenient I use it with an XC battery so it stands up nicely. Works awesome in the 90 degree position on my workbench for soldering things before taking them to a car. I can’t get my head wrapped around getting the heat gun though, it’s expensive (3 times the price of corded) and I rarely use one as a mechanic... For melting shrink tube I now just use my power probe with the appropriate attachments.

    Some nice options for sure. The soldering iron is huge but the different angles is pretty cool. Thanks, and have a wonderful Christmas!

    My Milwaukee drawer on my cart is already full. At this point, with future Milwaukee purchases planned, I'm going to need a separate Milwaukee cart. Thanks for the informative video.

    The heat gun is ok, but a hair dryer can be better in most cases. BMW for example is using plastic hoses. Use a hair dryer to warm them up for removal as well as other plastic parts. The heat gun gets to hot, but is a must have. If you are knuckle head and aren't warming up plastic parts for removal your a light weight and a rookie, plus a possible hack. I show guys how easy the BMW hoses pop off when warmed up. Watch a hack remove cold hoses and usually will case damage. If you get a car with a plastic valve cover and needs to come old use the heat gun and hair dryer to get fully warm and watch how easy its pops off and the gasket will pull right out, its always fun to watch someone trying to rremove a frozen valve cover gasket, when there's a heat gun near by. Most shops replace the BMW M54 valve cover completely mainly because fish cleaners are taking them off properly and adding additional 400 in parts. After 20 years of working on the m54 have not replaced any valve covers only gaskets, either the engine gets warmed up or use the heat gun hair dryer combo, the main problem with the heat gun is you can over heat, the hair dryer is better, but don't operator near gas fumes. Start using a hair dryer on all rubber parts and see the difference.

      The soldering Iron is very good, I have used a lot of different Irons in my time, it gets hot enough for large wiring and very robust, perfect for large component soldering. Though I would have preferred non-rotation, its useless in practice, they could have just made the body smaller.

    Kinda late to the party but, liquid flux with the needle applicator you will be amazed how much better the heat transfers and solder flows. Need applicator allows you to not make a huge sticky mess

    NOTE: After a lot of research on the M12 solder iron, buyer beware: Anything over 3ah CP batteries and ~10 min of run time will start to deteriorate and melt the housing cap of the solder wand. There are literally hundreds of 1 star reviews claiming this issue, rendering this device useless after only a few months of use. That said, I am still buying one, but limiting my usage to ~10 min on before cooldown and only using compact batteries. One guy I found did this consistently and was able to put hundreds of hours of use on this device over the course of several years. God bless!

      @engjds Před 2 lety

      I have used a lot of portable ones including the Portasol and Weller gas, this is better, gas ones can fail and explode, its happened to me once and ended up with no eyebrows, plus gas catalyst heats perpendicular to the tip melting stuff around it, this doesnt.

    The soldering iron seems ok but the heat gun would eat up batteries. Butane soldering iron is still ahead of the competition.

    • @mikesalvato1982
      @mikesalvato1982 Před 6 lety +3

      Tom OConnor, the m12 rocks. Very dependable and it has no heat exhaust like a butane does. Much cleaner work.

    The thing I would not like about that is it will run down the battery fast and we all KNOW you can only run a battery down so many times be for it just will not work anymore.. So why shorten my batteries life on my tools?... We all know there NOT cheep to replace them.. butane is the best way to go at this point my opinion

  • @ecwurban
    @ecwurban Před 6 lety

    HMMM... That is interesting. I do a lot of soldering. Normally I use a corded soldering iron from Weller. I do have that same butane iron from PowerProbe. It is a great iron and the round exhaust port on it works awesome for heat shrink but it can go through a lot of butane when you have a lot of work to do. Plus I much prefer electric irons. Butane ones radiate heat too much. You have to be super careful where that exhaust port is pointing and even still you can damage other components.
    I do want to get a battery powered soldering iron. I saw a Weller one that looked really promising and got good reviews. Part number: BL60MP. The only real complaint people seemed to have is the holder/charger is only for holding it when cold. Put it in place while hot and you'll melt the stand. (I would've thought that would be common sense but it has a lot of reviews with people freaking out about that...) The Weller one seems really cool and much smaller than this Milwaukee but then I have a ton of Milwaukee stuff. Including a lot of batteries. Would be nice to not have to worry about yet another charger...
    So many tool decisions.... :/

    Looks like every other electric solder iron. Medium temp, and meh. Butane is the bomb! Heat gun? Same, same. Butane torch will do it in a 1/4 of the time. Butane still rules the cordless "heat" repair segment. When time is money, and when proper heat is needed to fully solder, I'll stick with butane.

      Fedwrench the m12 iron is amazing. No heat exhaust like a butane. The m18 heat gun has a great adapter to concentrate heat too. If you're clean, NOTHING beats this pair for electrical work.
