Robin William's issue with Disney was not the money. The issue was he told Disney he didn't want to be the headliner of the Aladdin movie/franchise/merch. And Disney agreed, then went against his wishes (The movie poster makes Genie almost half the poster, when he's not the title character). Lindsay Ellis just recently went over this story in a recent video essay, but it was known for years.
My favorite song in Aladdin is One Jump Ahead, also Jafar does make an appearance in the tv show in a crossover episode of the Hercules show. I also had a random thought about Stranger Things, remember in season 2 when Hopper went into the upside down and got sprayed in the face with that gunk? What if that’s what caused him to become so violent in season 3?
You got your Genies facts wrong, tho. (edit: I'm talking about the general mythologies [you mentioned] here, not the westernized one or the Disney version of it) A genie originally was (is) an evil spirit. An spirit that haunts, tortures, and curses living beings. Similar to a demon in western mythology ... but less physical. One way to ban such a spirit is to somehow trick it to go into a bottle ... and then close it. But since everybody knows what resides in such bottles no one is stupid enough to open one. But after being lost and rediscovered for a few hundred years the same genie will claim he had bettered and wasn't one of the real bad ones in first place (and has a good chance of no one remembering anyway). But in fact that's all an act, and he is actually really resentful now against the humans who tricked him (before it was a kinda "it's my job" thing, now it is personal). And just to sweeten the deal (to remove the cork of said bottle) he will enter a contract that grants you three wishes on which on the end he is free from you and the bottle. If he can't do that (because you don't make all three) he is still trapped and the bottle will (magically) recork itself, trapping him in once again. But the genies are also known to fulfill the wishes in a malicious way that you never intended. e.g: You wish for a lots of money, you'll get it but you might (if you are lucky) see later that a bank had been robbed and the suspect has some very close resemblance to you ... and somehow your car was used for him to get away. ... and all the serial numbers on "your" money is registered as stolen. Or it is counterfeit money, or similar. Anyway it always ends up with you unable using it and getting in hot water for having it. And usually the first wish has the least consequences, while the last wish has the worst (and usually not only for you) ... and ends up killing you (no need to keep you alive after "fulfilling" your 3rd one). Another example could be you say "to wake up in the future" and then you wake up in a hospital bed after being in coma for 50 years. With all the consequences of being in a coma for so long. And if that was your 3rd one it might be as well after a nuclear war that destroyed most of the face of the planet ... within a zombie apocalypse. (and you barely able to lift a finger ... and just for good measure he makes sure you are able to move your head enough to get a hint what is coming at you but unable to call for help or get away ... but survive the inevitable attack long enough so you get the "most" out of it)

i dont think the story happened THAT long ago from the moment the merchant tells us the story. that would mean human genie is immortal and i dont think that's the case. if he turned into a human and lost his magic, i think he would have the same mortality as other humans. i think the genie simply traveled to another country to tell the tale. but the rest of the theory is solid :3
WARNING: Long theory I think I may have a theory as to not only why the genie ( disguised as the peddler) would have the lamp, but why in the sequel to Aladdin a genie's lamp is a weakness used against Jafar. As the myth of the Djinn states they were made from smokeless fire. But all fire requires a source. An oil lamp's main purpose is a source of light by way of a small flame. So in a sense the Djinn itself is the flame coming from the lamp. Only in this case the lamp isn't filled with oil, but with an unlimited pool of magic the Djinn draw from. Should that lamp be destroyed they no longer have magic and could possibly die from its destruction. But if the Djinn is freed the pool would be cut off from the source. Leaving a small amount left for the Djinn to use. Which could explain why Genie still lives in the lamp after being freed. He stays in the lamp to recharge with what little magic he has left. And if he decided to stay in the form of the peddler he could still use the magic left to tell his story.
Arabian Nights is always my favorite. Also Fangirl read the book and you’ll know that Ali Baba was no friend of the 40 thieves. In fact he stole some of their loot from them.

I never watched Aladdin the movie but I've read a story book of it many times . I like have clues about the movie and not watching the movie I don't know why . But yeah I would rather have all the spoilers and finger out the rest of the flim than watching it .
Sure Disney employees say at genie is the peddler but for people who like starkid twisted say this Plot twist the peddler is actually Aladdin telling the story he was in or if you consider twisted as canon he is telling a twisted version of the story where he is a hero instead of the villain see both ways work as the merchant
They really shouldn't have had the Genie appear in the 2nd movie they should have come up with a new concept for a character and then in the third movie the Genie could have returned.
Sorry fangirl i hope I'm not being rude but in Aladdin the series there was a crossover episode with Hurcules the series where Jafar is sent to the underworld when he died then joined forces with Hades in order to kill Aladdin and Hurcules.
That might have been a Hercules the series episode, but I'm 10000% positive it wasn't in Aladdin the series. That show ended before Hercules came out. Aladdin was my religion as a kid so I'm confident I would have noticed an episode like that, but I never saw much of Hercules' show.
