Only 30 minutes of running still saw speeds reach nearly 230 MPH on day 1 of testing for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500. We speak to drivers from Penske, Foyt, Rahal and others as well as talk about rain at the Indy 500.

I love that you have such a good working relationship with Sato. He always gives great interviews. He deserves to win this race in front of fans and get the reception and recognition he deserves from winning in front of an empty facility. If he could become a 3x champ, that would be a special day.
I'm so happy to see Takuma again, and his interviews always end up great!
Good report.
Regarding rain! 1967 Indy 500; Memorial Day was still on May 30 and so was the 500. It was a Tuesday. The race started and ran about 18 laps, then the rain came and the rest was run on Wednesday, May 31. Problem was, I was a Freshman in H.S. I snuck in a portable radio with an earbud and listened to most of the race. I got busted with about 10 laps to go with Parnelli Jones in command in the STP #40 turbine car. I didn't learn what happened until I got home and heard the news that Jones dropped out with 2 laps to go and AJ Foyt won his 3rd 500.
Why couldn't you bring a portable radio? It seems a little harsh.
@@Chatta-Ortegathere is no way you could bring a radio to school back then. Classrooms were dead quiet. Only the teacher spoke.

Oh, I thought he was busted at the track. My goof. It makes total sense now. Thanks.
I’m so happy that Sato is back with RLL!
“I don’t know man I just keep my foot in it and turn left”
Best thing we’re gonna hear all month lol
You gotta love Santino! He’s a racer pure and simple.
Love the coverage and piece on rain at Indy 500. Hopefully there's no rain on race day. Really want to see Larson do the double and finish well in both.
Agreed, we haven’t had a finisher since Smoke, and he was Top 10 in both the 500 and 600
David, I love your stuff and I have no idea where anyone else would go for Indycar updates. Appreciate your coverage.
Great coverage David, really appreciate what your doing.
Coverage is excellent!
" Keep my foot in and turn left" Love it! Great report as always David...
epic race coming just wait
Four plus hours of only left turns, epic alright like constipation.
@@ronbelanger4113I take my hat off to you F1 fanboys for your absolute unrelenting commitment to make yourselves as disagreeable and unlikeable as possible.
Really think they should add a couple aditional practice days starting next year due to unpredictable weather.
What I'd be in favor of is running the Indy road course race a week earlier, and start 500 practice on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. That would add on 3 full practice days in case 1 or 2 of those days get washed out. Plus it's pretty much a guarantee that more fans would show up if practice started on a weekend instead of a lame work day Tuesday.
I enjoyed the entire video! My first ever Indy500 was 1972 . So for me those early years were filled with rain . I endured 5 of those 7 rain shortened races
Hope this weather clears out for the rest of the month, really looking forward to qual and the race
Sting Ray Robb is winning it all this year!
I Pray!
This is the simulation I want to live in
Jesus takes the wheel
Can you imagine Stingray Robb in contention at the end to win the Indianapolis 500. The crowd and the booth’s reaction would be the best part.
@@tweek218It will happen!
"Oh the video seems a little queit, il just crank the volume"
"UH!!!!"
Can’t wait for the race!
Great coverage David !
Excellent coverage David as as always. Can’t wait for the next couple weeks of videos you have set for us including the much anticipated Starting Lineup Video. The Greatest Spectacle in Racing is upon us and I’m so excited 😆 I feel like we are in for another great and amazing race.
Great work, David!
Less than 100 subs from that legendary 91k. Congrats David and appreciate hard work. Really hope Fast Friday doesnt get rained out
Dixon on top the leaderboard again at Indy. I’m not at all surprised by this and he will probably be a good candidate for the Pole position once again. If he could only put The 500 together it would be great.
The first 500 I watched was the Bobby Unser win. That was amazing and I was a race fan ever since.
Which Bobby Unser win? They span across 3 decades.
Headed there next Thursday. Bringing 6 rookies with me!!!
Keep it coming David!
Looking at the betting odds, how the hell is Larson the 2nd favorite to win? I figured he’d be a top 10 favorite but second best odds behind Palou???
Outstanding coverage! Loved hearing taku! Santino is gonna be fun to watch not that I necessarily want him to win.
Takusan is a perennial favorite for me. Remember: "No Attack, No Chance!"
Is a video coming on the hybrid announcement or will that be closer to the actual debut or the Milwaukee test
If it rains this year . Im blaming you. 😂
WE NEED MORE PRACTICE!!!!!!!!
What do the colored bars between the car and the driver name signify, red and white?
Would be very happy for Sato to win a third.
👍
Satooooooooo!!!!
You're forgetting 1986 and 1997 on Rainy indianapolis 500 In 1986 The cars never started On race day They'd wait until the saturday to race In 1997 It took them three days Run the race They didn't start the cars until Monday. It only ran fifteen laps And then they continue it with tuesday
Can someone explain to me why teams choose these rookies who have never even driven on ovals vs slightly older guys who have proven to be competitive in the 500? Karem, Townsend, hildebrand etc
I think that it's all about marketing. Young drivers are apt to be around longer and/or generate more interest. Based solely upon their youth.
I'm certainly NOT saying that I disagree with you, B/C, I believe the 3 drivers that you mentioned would definitely be the better choices based upon experience and skill. Not to mention, they would be fan favorites.
1:41 whaaaa?
SANNTTIIIIIIINNOOOO
How do you report for 21 minutes on 30 minutes of cars on track?
Gift of the Gab.
This comment was written without actually watching the video clearly
Your intro is way quieter than the content. Sorry man keep it up tho
I disagree that the practice speeds aren't relevant. They demonstrate which teams and drivers were prepared and motivated to get on track and perform.
Kyle Larson top 20 as a rookie
If they say Indy Car is far behind F1 and Nascar in ratings so instead of just plastering the same camera for 2 hours during a rain delay on Peacock why not interview drivers , explain the Dallara chassis or something. I'm not a genius or anything but you could grow your fan base with something to watch right? Excellent job NBC.
Marco will qualify higher than Kyle Larson.
Josef can stay at 119. I hope he misses the field.

This guy with the cool name, Sting Ray Robb, why is he allowed to race in Indy Car once a year? Is he special because his name is Sting Ray ? lol.
He's in indycar full time. Apparently you don't follow indycar.
BOYCOTT FASCIST FERRUCCI!
Either that guy displays full accountability for his despicable actions or kick him out!
Being a knucklehead is not Fascist.
