  • In early February 2024, teams at NASA’s Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, completed an RS-25 nozzle remove-and-replace procedure as part of an ongoing hot fire series on the Fred Haise Test Stand. Using a specially adapted process and tools, team installed a new production nozzle for the second half of an ongoing 12-test series. NASA is completing a second hot fire series to certify production of new RS-25 engines by lead engines contractor Aerojet Rocketdyne for future Artemis missions to the Moon and beyond.

Normally, something like that takes a few hours to do. These guys did it in less than a minute. I'm impressed.

Oh PLEASE make an hour long, expert hosted or narrated video detailing the complete installation and prep-work of the RS-25 on the test stand with, of course, the test fire to finish. Pleeeeese! 🙂

This is never something I expected to see! Thank you so much for the video. Those engines are truly works of engineering and art. I'm so glad that the Shuttle's SSMEs are getting one final hurrah instead of sitting in a museum collecting dust!

Almost all of the engine hardware seen here is newly built, not adapted SSME.
