      A lot of English food is either so universally accepted in the U.S that they don't realise it's English or it's evolved from ration era food.
      Like the roast dinner owes it's entire existence to the indistrial revolution and the gas stove of 1834 lowering the bar of roast meals away from the ultra rich to the working class. The Americans of the early 1900s were massive anglophiles, their cuisine, cultural symbols and holidays were all ripped from the British ones of the time.

    just my two cents... not a huge fan of baked beans but they do slam with a full breakfast. The sweetness of the sauce isnt really any different than putting ketchup on something. I'm scottish and will take a wee scoop of beans with my breakfast cos its definitely better and more nutritious on a hangover than just dousing it in tomato sauce. Also want my fried tomatos, mushrooms, and tattie scone! UK breakfast is the bomb.

    Beans on toast was a meal my mom would make on the fly if we were out of groceries or she was super tired from work and didn't want to do anything extravagant. She used the same Heinz beans on bread, sprinkled shredded cheese on top and then put it into the oven to broil which made sure the bread didn't get soggy and the cheese was melted. A comfort food!

    It’s actually hilarious that Ethan says how unhealthy British breakfasts are and then in the comparison pictures, the American breakfast has only fried meat, fried dough pancakes and eggs… at least British breakfasts have vegetables and fruit (inc the tomatoes, which are grilled or fried, not raw) and aren’t doused in syrup. There’s no competition over which is more varied in flavour, texture and nutrition. Also I love Hila, just calling him out on his stubbornness lol, he def loooved those beans

    • @mirojone
      @mirojone Před 2 lety +8

      I mean that's being stereotypical. Lot of variety in American breakfast. Fruit being extremely common. Literally had grapes, cantaloupe, and watermelon along with yogurt and granola at the place I had breakfast this morning.
      There is no competition which is more varied in flavor, texture, and nutrition. American breakfast food by default because its pretty all encompassing. And it is what you make of it. You basically picked out McDonald's breakfast as American breakfast. To say it has less variety is laughable. America at its core is variety.
      (Ethan's hot take is dumb though as far as beans and toast being disgusting when its delicious.)

    American here, we do not eat pancakes everyday at all. Normal Americans go out to eat for breakfast maybe once every few months. A normal breakfast where I’m from would be Huevos Rancheros, and egg sandwich with fruit, avocado with egg and toast or even a serving of yogurt with fruit and some type of seed or nut butter. It’s filling and balanced. Not this crap. We don’t eat at Dennys or IHOP everyday.

    The whole world (except the UK) is wrong on this one! Baked beans are high in fibre, protein and vitamins... Beans on toast is healthy, fast food that tastes good, digests well and is cheap! When judging beans on toast you have to realise, you can cook it in under 5minutes and feed a family a healthy meal for like £3 total! It not fancy food and should be compared to things like pb&j, instant noodles etc... One of the best bang for buck meals in the world lol.

    I don't have anything against Americans but it's definitely not known for the food. You eat like shit and it shows. I'm from Europe and when something isn't good we check if it's American. I know this was "only food", but it really isn't. Food is culture and you can say you don't like something but be respectful about it, especially when you have a big audience. This isn't even the first time Ethan talked shit about other places, I'm kinda fed up. I'm probably too sensitive and maybe this podcast it's just for Americans.
