I would say that this show IS great overall though I agree with some of your points. Some of the phrasing is not only westernizes but also somewhat anachronistic in places. Thematically though, a story about a girl defying her father may be unlikely historically, but that's sort of the point isn't it? I mean Ogami Itto defying the Shogun of all Japan and then pushing his son around everywhere in a weaponized baby stroller is also a highly unlikely scenario but it's still fun to watch. When Mizu does a Sonic the Hedgehog style front flip killing 3 attackers with her sword I had to relax my view of how real this show was trying to be. These things don't detract from this show's greatness though. Sure, it's a gateway show to get western audiences interested in Japanese culture on their own terms but I found the story quite compelling and a good example of how to write challenges that actually challenge an op character.
There is no representation of history without anachronistic elements. That said, Blue Eye Samurai obviously isn't really interested in sustaining fidelity to some idea of historical reality anyway. And that's a good thing.
I agree that the annoying doofus character that usually works in anime comedies feels a little out of place in a show with this much explicit sex and violence.

@@hexcodeff6624 - Hate isn't the opposite of love/like. Indifference is. It's perfectly healthy to criticize things we like, as criticism isn't inherently negative or unhealthy.

Having characters speak something other than their own language for no reason than convenience is pretty annoying.
Dubs just literally need to stop being advertised, then general audiences will be more accustomed to foreign language media and creatives will have an easier time producing media in any language they want.
What about people with reading disabilities? I don't think anyone would say that dubs sound better, it's typically done to avoid subtitles for whatever reason.
@@srose1088 "What about people with reading disabilities" No one in the history of dub culture gave an ounce of a fuck about people with reading disabilities.
They aren't being addressed by dubs, they are just being fed the same slop as everyone else who won't read for different reasons so it doesn't matter anymore that they are disabled.
There are plenty of ways to make the viewing experience more accessible to disabled people of any kind, yet as soon as it isn't confined to the ways general audiences are given access to something, interest in the disabled quickly declines.
Yeah, dubs exist because film and tv is a VISUAL medium. There's purpose to the timing and arrangement of the pretty pictures. Subtitles are only useful as a last resort for older films made before the democratization of film making or smaller films that cannot make foreign dubs for budgetary reasons. Imagine missing most of Scott Pilgrim while reading the bottom 10th of the screen. Visual media is meant to be absorbed VISUALLY and aurally without distraction.

Film is audio-visual. Every part is important, you can't just replace it and call it the same.
You're making a plea for some/your idea of authenticity, when obviously the use of language in the series doesn't in any way whatsoever harm its themes, subtext or overall entertainment value. And your assertion regarding general audiences and "creatives" is just absurd.
