    I have a knife blank that I got way back in 1999. Been sitting in a box for almost two decades. Recently been looking for an appropriate bone or antler for a handle.
    Your video jus put that knife back into the front of my mind.
    I made a small skinning knife with an antler handle in 1989, and actually skinned a horse with it (That hide is still on the wall in the main house of the 3W Ranch).
    Been wanting to make another primitive knife. I just have to find the time.

      Very cool. If you get around to making that knife I'd enjoy seeing a picture of it. I hope you find the time to make it.

      Your video here has rekindled my interest in finishing that project... in fact, I remember seeing a deer carcass last Spring that wandered onto the Sanctuary here after being shot. If the coyotes have left anything, there may be a femur or tibia out there. It’s a fairly big blade so even a jawbone would work.
      I’ll definitely send you some pictures when I get it goin.

    Love the knife! I would like to have one similar to that,but I'm moving to Vietnam and it's probably going to be pretty hard to find deer bones there.
    But if I ever do I'm definitely going to try to make one!
    Thank you for the inspiring video!

    Looks great! You've got a great talent for this type of crafting. I could swear I could hear Art Bell talking in the background. Was he communicating from beyond the grave?

      Thank you, and listening to Art Bell never gets old. I was wondering if someone would pick up on what I was listening to 👽🤙

    Excellent and great looking knife! Have relatives in Asia and they also use bones and horns for knife handles. Keep it coming brother! 👍

      Awesome! I'm just now starting to figure it out. I might try doing a little carving on the next one I do with antler. Thanks for watching brother.

    Great looking primitive knife! Very interesting! : ) I wondered what you were listening to in the background? Lol
    Questions please… Did you cut your own rawhide string or buy it? If you bought it, was it ready to soak and use? How long do you soak it before you wrapped the handle?
    Thank you again for the tutorial video! : )

    • @MountaincraftOutdoors
      @MountaincraftOutdoors  Před 2 měsíci

      I like to soak it for a couple hours. I bought the rawhide strips on Etsy, I'd also suggest using hideglue, real hide glue.
      Listening to Art Bell in the background.
      Appreciate you watching.

      @@MountaincraftOutdoors I saw a video after yours where the guy soaked a rawhide dog chew until it was softened buy still a little firm to cut into a long stand of rawhide. He used that to wrap a primitive stone axe handle. Definitely something to explore, and maybe not as expensive a purchase.

    That's a sweet little carving blade, a good knife doesn't need to be a crowbar full tang like some "professional bushcrafters" say. What site did you say you ordered it from?

    • @MountaincraftOutdoors
      @MountaincraftOutdoors  Před 2 lety +2

      Thompsons knife supply, it's a hidden gem.
