The Qatar World Cup has provoked strong and sometimes conflicting, reactions in many people.
In this series of videos, written by James Montague and illustrated by Alice Devine, Tifo explains why the World Cup in the Gulf State is so controversial.
In the years since Qatar secured the FIFA World Cup, it faced its greatest crisis since its independence. A cold War. A war between its neighbouring countries.

@@dantespina7398 yeah, I must say I much preferred their pre-athletic content even they had complete editorial control. They did a lot more economic and geopolitical football related content and had a far more independent, less corporate feel. A lot of their recent content seems like itâs been commissioned and edited to fit in with the official athletic line, and stays in a much narrower, more conservative channel.

As a football blogger myself, I can attest to the fact that this is undoubtedly the best coverage of the Qatar World Cup that I have ever seen. What a brilliant blend of history, geopolitics, economics, world affairs, and, of course, football, combined via absolutely impeccable storytelling skills. What a series. This is fantastic. Wouldnât have expected this level of geopolitical detail from a football channel. Starting with a bird and ending with a weapons deal, with football as the glue in-between. Amazing.

Whenever someone makes the asinine comment of "keep politics out of football", show them this series of videos.
Football and politics are inexorably linked , and will be even more so as more parts of the world start to have financial interests in it.
That's not a reasonable justification for importing more politics into football.

Yet somehow, this is the first time any western media has gone into the depths necessary to understand why all the headlines are against Qatar. Its easy to hop on a bandwagon. I can't wait to see the remaining parts of the series.
@@GamerDudester agreed. However, I think it's a far more simple matter than is being made out. Western people have discovered they don't like Islam when they have to hold its hand. They assume it is, in the hearts and minds of Muslims, something commensurate to their own quasi-religious values, and equally teachable, progressive, and mendable. It's a naive bigotry.

This is top notch content... I absolutely love it. I'm a football fan as well as a newbie in Politics and a big lover of geography and history... This is the absolute right mix for me... And i was considering a CZcams channel dedicated to football and geography but i just couldn't get my head around the whole thing... The how would i mix the two is still a headache for me?
