      I was thinking $50 and would still think it's pricey but maybe worth it. For 175, I might just install a locking nut like the Floyds. Yeah, I know, the whole point is that this "nut buster" thing won't require mods, but if the issue is bothering so much and the solution is so good, just do it like that and save money.

    Before installing the nutbuster you followed a specific pattern of trem bends then chord strums, without using the trem bar to help reset the tuning. However after you installed the nutbuster you repeatedly shook the term bar after each phrase, which we know helps reset tuning. It would have been a much more scientific test had you followed the exact same procedure before and after fitting the nutbuster gadget.
    Your testing is usually much more ‘consistent’ and fair than this appeared to be.
    I’m sure you didn’t deliberately try to influence the results, but in the case you certainly didn’t apply the same test methods, so it’s impossible to know if the result was accurate.

    • @leonardodufloth9309
      @leonardodufloth9309 Před 4 lety +10

      Yep, every Floyd Rose owner knows that tuning issues with floating trems is the bridge not properly returning to position and its very evident on up bends so a down bend after an upend usually helps it get back in position flush with the body. I don't know if Darrell was doing it consciously or not but it definitely makes this particular test a little sketchy.

    • @DarrellBraunGuitar
      @DarrellBraunGuitar  Před 4 lety +24

      Hi,
      If you watch closely you notice that when demonstrating the "bending up" section I never "reset" the trem by bending it downwards - only upwards which does NOT reset the trem - and tuning was solid.
      Also, most of the "soloing" section I don't reset the trem after bending upwards :)

    • @OutstandingBill1
      @OutstandingBill1 Před 4 lety +2

      The bend up tests at 3:25 were where we first saw the unmodified go out of tune. The bar stays back, so there was no downward flutter for the unmodified, but the bar is moved forward and there is some downward flutter for the modified in the test that starts at around 7:30. However, at 7:40 Darrell seems to show that the guitar is in tune before he does the flutter. So we do have scientific proof :)

    My favorite Strat trick for floating/tuning is to play it till it's out of tune then bring it back into tune (as best you can) by tightening and loosening the trem springs. Cycle through that about 3 times and they stay pretty good. Hey Darrell, there's a video idea for you :)

    My number one is a Charvel strat copy with a JT-490 bridge and roller nut. I thought it had great tuning stability, but I can't dive bomb that thing fifteen times and have it stay in tune. Or maybe I just need to work on it. I didn't know a Fender trem was capable of that, honestly. Impressive. This nutbuster is equally impressive. Pricey, but if you use the trem a lot and are on stage or recording, it would be one hundred percent worth it.

    Darrell, nut setup has a lot to do with staying in tune, meaning, break angle (less is more) polishing the channels and lubrication. Might want to try to setup the nut, and do an A.B.C. comparison ( no nut setup, nut setup and lubricated, floating locking nut )

      Part of me disagree, another one agrees. I think headless guitars _can_ look decent, but most makers somehow don't understand that they have to adjust proportions when they cut off a big chunk of the neck. I never understood why the advantages of headless were never really combined with a headstock that just serves as an anchor point for strings. The Steinbergers sceptre kinda did this, but not quite.

    The thing that fixed my tuning was the saddles. I had the ones that are also on
    your strat. I put on slotted string saving saddles and it kept the strings centered. That solved my tuning issues. I took a close look at your bridge, and I hope it was not an illusion but I saw some strings aligned and others not, all in the same frame, before you did the nut install.
    Take a look at it. It might be all that some of your viewers need.
