- Follow along As I travel to Portsmouth Island in North Carolina. This is an Island with a village that us to be have a population of 600 in the 1800's but is a modern ghost town today. This island is one of the few places on the east coast where you can camp on the beach.
Loved the video. I visited Portsmouth Island with my Dad, Mom and sister around 1960. There were only 2 people living there during that visit. My Dad told me of his boyhood there. This place has a history I am glad to have a mental snapshot of it. I remember spot, croakers flounder & a lot of mosquitos.
Very Nice... Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video. Those 600 residents were my ancestors............ Thank you for sharing!
Debra Johnson I am glad you enjoyed it. That looked like an incredible way of life. Thank you for watching!
Just a small correction. You left on the 'Donza Lee' from Atlantic........not Cedar Island. You have to cross a high rise and a LONG causeway to get to Cedar Island......which is just north of Atlantic. Other than than......good presentation. That itty-bitty roadway leading to Portsmouth Village is USUALLY mostly covered with water. But like the Ranger told you, it's hard-packed and passable......although the FIRST time you make that crossing, it's a little disconcerting.
Dorian did a ton of damaged to Portsmouth Island
How much does the ferry cost ?

It Varys depending on how many people and how large a vehicle you bring. I linked a website to the marina that runs the ferry. For my 4Runner and just me it cost me around $100 for the round trip.
you missed a lot of footage
